LETTER TO CEO OF TAXIPASS
July 20 2013
Jason Diaz, CEO
Taxipass
129 W. 29th St
New York, NY
Dear Mr. Diaz,
I have called four times this afternoon to file a compliant and no one has called me back yet. Saturday, July 20 at 3:30 pm I walked up to the taxi kiosk at Terminal A in Newark Airport and requested a fare price to Staten Island. I was told it was $46 plus tolls. I gave the driver the credit card receipt filled out for $61 which would cover the $15 tolls as instructed by the driver.
I handed him a $5 bill for the tip and he told me that was not enough. I told him a tip does not have a specified fee attached to it, so if I felt like giving him $5 that was my perrogative. He became very agitated and said he gets $20 - $25 as a tip. I said for what? He said he had to wait for 3 hours for a fare (not my problem) and gas is expensive (again not my problem). I repeated that I can give a tip of any dollar amount that I choose. He carried on and on so I took back my $5 and replaced it with a $10. He continued carrying on and would not get my luggage out of the car until I told him that I was calling the police.
The taxi driver cab number is 166.
I expect a phone call at [protected] to discuss this further. If I do not hear from you I will be contacting the City of Elizabeth Taxi and Limousine Commissioner on Monday morning to report this extortion attempt by driver 166.
