In April 2022 I experienced what many authors are dreaming of, but which I had never even thought of: I was approached by the Production Manager of The Spotlight Media Productions, Charlie McDowell, about my children's book of 2011, "The Naughty Peteyboy, Sonya, and the Magic Word" (ISBN [protected]). To my surprise The Spotlight Media Productions was considering my book for a movie. Actually they seemed to have been working on it as a future project for quite some time without me knowing anything about it.
That being the case it surprised me that they didn't offer to buy either 1) the option or 2) the film rights of my book. Instead I was pressured for writing a movie script which they seemed to take for granted that I would write, presumably for free.
Right from the very beginning I wanted an agreement, i.e. a contract, but whenever I mentioned this claim I was met with silence. Not being either naive or inexperienced to me that was a danger signal so I decided to put down my foot, thus cancelling the project.
Desired outcome: I need to be assured that The Spotlight Media Productions are not going on with the project of turning my book into a movie without any agreements with me
Later on I found out that the Spotlight firm was a scam: Someone in the Phillipines had the bad habit of "borrowing" the name of Charlie McDowell when approaching authors in order to do what he asked me to do. That seems to have been part of his ruse to obtain the right of their literary works for free. Had I not been that set on my demanding contracts, option-payments, etc. I might have been cheated out of money for nothing as he would have had obtained the rights of my book ...
As to AuthorHouse I wash my hands of them and their scandalous way to deal with authors who trust them.
