I had the worst experience trying to return leftover materials at the San Fernando/Sylmar Home Depot. I had purchased $5800 of wood/materials for a home project. I had about $400 of materials left. When I went to return it they refused to give me my refund. These materials were purchased on two separate days so I had different receipts. The issue was that on one receipt I had paid the majority in cash $1500 but since I did not have enough cash my friend put the remaining $500 on his debit card. (which paying with the debit is the same as cash for returns). So when I came to the store to return the leftover materials the cashier said that she did not have enough money to give me that she would need to put it back on the card. I explain to her that I did not have the card. I then showed her the receipt and showed her where it shows that $1500 was paid in cash. She called the manager (Carlos). He came over and told me that they cant give me cash, that is has to be put back on the card. I explained to him that we paid the majority with cash and just the remining balance on the debit card. He said since I used the debit it had to go back on the card. I told him that I didn't have the card. He then said that he could not give me the money. I told him that there had to be someone there that can approve that, he told me to come back tomorrow and see the morning manager. By this time he was unprofessional and rude. I had a bunch of wood so I told him that I wood leave it since it was a lot to load and then come back tomorrow. He then kept being very rude. He told me that there was nothing he can do. He would then walk away and leave me standing there. I then called him back. I told him to give me his name so when I come back tomorrow I don't want another problem because the receipts were scanned and I don't want to be told that the items had been scanned and they could not give me a refund. But he would only give me his first name and tittle. He told me to take the wood because he would not be responsible for it. It was very obvious that he did not care to help me. That I know because the very next day I had my friend drive from Santa Monica to meet me at home depot with the debit card. This time when I got in line another cashier helped me. she told me the same thing, that she needs to put the refund on the card because her drawer did not have enough money ($400). I told her that I needed cash so I asked her if she can go and get the money from another register. She very kindly agreed and came back with my money. I didn't even need to show her the debit card. I told her that yesterday I the manager refused to give me my refund. She did not understand why. So I then went to let the other manager know what had gone on and to my surprise it was the same manager Carlos again. So I told him that I came back today and that I had no issues today. I asked him what was different from yesterday to today that the refund was approved. He then changed his story saying that I wanted the refund on the card. I told him that was not true. We argued for 20 minutes because I needed the cash.
So it was very clear that he didn't care to help me at all or that he is incompetent. I am glad that the cashier was very professional. She should be the manager, not Carlos
Desired outcome: address the employee about being professional and not deliberately bully customers
