Gas pump buyers beware! 8o% of the gas stations in georgia (except quick trip) are putting a hold of $50 - $75 on your debit cards for 72 hours. They only way that you can be sure that this will not happen is to go into the store and have the clerk run your card as a "debit" transaction and enter your pin number. Since the public is now aware of this scam, they have developed a new one... The clerk will now tell you that they dont have the ability to do a "debit" transaction in the store and you can do it at the pump, just push the debit button at the pump, when you do it will ask for your zipcode, once you put in your zipcode it will register as a "credit" transaction and put the hold above on your card, plus the amount of your gas! Even if you cancel the transaction and not get gas it will still hold the above amount for 72 hours.in this economy that is unacceptable not to mention fraud!
This incident happend at the chevron at n decatur & scott st 6/24/10.
