My husband and I chose Ruth's Chris steakhouse in Lahaina to celebrate our 11 year wedding anniversary and his 40th birthday. Ruth's Chris has been my go to fir every celebration and date night since my papa introduced it to me in 1998. Vegas on multiple occasions, Roseville on multiple occasions, Wailea, and Beverly Hills . The reason it is a staple that we spend 300 to a couple thousand dollars on depending the group size is it's consistency and quality. There has never been once in 21 years that this has not been demonstrated.
My mom gave us a 100 gift card and so we felt it bi better than to use it at our generation trip. The restaurant in Lahaina was closest to our hotel so we reserved a table.
1. Unlike any other RC we arrived and the hostess was not around. We ended up waiting several minutes for her to come up— absolutely no big deal, just not the typical RC experience.
2. The service was awesome and consistent with the typical RC experience.
3. My blue cheese wedge was perfect, but my husbands Caesar was so terrible he could not finish it. Not only was the salad not consistent with the typical quality, he did not eat more than a couple bites.
4. The absolute worst part of our meal was the steaks. They were delivered to our table and I suspected immediately that mine was not going to be right first, no sizzling plate as is always. I typically get my filet butterflied with a blue cheese crust. The steak is normally pink throughout and It melts in my mouth. The waiter rejected back that my steak would be pink throughout. We even discussed this specifically bc the neat was butterflied. It wax's AWFUL. No pink, over done, and way too much blue cheese crust. I ate about 1/3 left about a half, took home about 5 bites I thought might be salvaged, but ultimately was so disgusted by what a terrible steak it was we dunked this 70 dollar plus blue cheese crust ( 85?) dollar steak. Terrible. I mean I can't even relay how bad it was. My husband had the rib eye, his plate was sizzling, but his meat tasted "burnt" the inside was not over done, but he said it was rough and chewy. He was completely disgusted. We both wanted to make the best of this very special day that we didn't complain to each other or anyone else during the meal. It was not until we left that we both expressed how disappointed each of us was. His side of mashed potatoes were very good and my Cremona mushrooms were okay, the sauce seemed thicker than normal and again not the best in comparison if the many other experiences. The lava cake was awesome, as we had expected. For a 250 dollar meal, this was an extremely HUGE disappointment. It makes me think twice about choosing this restaurant again. The one we place we chose to celebrate at really let us down, not to mention we wasted our 100 gift certificate on this horrible meal.
I think that this corporation we'd to do a quality check there. Despite the numerous locations we have visited, quality and consistency have always been present.
Very Very disappointed! Even a day later we feel like we wasted a lot of money and are bummed this is our memory.
