Mazda - Blown engine

My son told the dealership (davis-moore mazda) to do an oil change on his car back in october when it was in there for something else and thought that it was done since he told them to do it. He thought one was done. On april 9th he put in at least 3 quarts of oil. On april 17th, his car engine blew. The car burned all of the oil within 1 week. I have contacted several dealerships and they state that if the oil was not changed that it would cause the engine to blow. They refuse to pay for it and keep lying to us about everything. I get a different story everytime I talk to them. I also just found out after complaining to them that they only topped off the oil in october and are trying to blame my son for it. They refuse to take responsibility for something that they caused.

Thanks Robinsteel. The Dealer said that Mazda Corporation wants us to pay for the Engine and then have the Dealership send it to them and if they find any defects they will reimburse us. The Dealership said that they would take off 15% which still comes to almost $ 4, 000 for something that they caused. I even told Mazda Corporation that the Dealership is giving Mazda a bad Reputation and they don't seem to care. Go figure.

Here is the rest of the Complaint:

My Son has a 2004 Mazda RX8. Dealership replaced Engine in September 2009 as it was recalled due to Engine Problems. Son was told that it was a New Engine that was put in at the time. Son took car to Dealership in October 2010 to have things done including requesting an Oil Change since the car was due for one and thought that they did it since he requested it. Dealership was supposed to do a Full Circle Service Inspection which would also make sure that everything was done and Son never received the Report like he was supposed to nor did he ever receive the Full Circle Service Maintenance Notifications like he was supposed to. April 2011 Son put in at least 3 Quarts of Oil. 1 week later the car broke down. We had it towed to the Dealership who said that it was 4-1/2 quarts low (which means that it burned all the oil that was put in and they are blaming my Son). Dealership put in 4-1/2 quarts and told my Son that it burned it all within 7 minutes which means that there is something wrong with the Engine. Again they blamed him. When my Son asked if they were using Mobil One like he specified, they said "NO" we are using cheap oil. They also then proceeded to tell him that they put in a Remanufactured Engine. Nowhere on the Invoice does it state that it is Remanufactured like it has to state. This should not have gone within less than 16, 000 miles on the Engine. The Dealership told the District Field Manager that there was no proof of Maintenance and that they would maybe do something if we showed proof. The Dealership was the only one that has worked on the Car and they are hindering the Proof of Maintenance. The Dealership did not do their job and deceived my Son and have now caused his car to break down. I contacted Mazda Corporate and they now say there is nothing they can do because of the ruling by the Mazda District Field Manager as the Dealership lied to both Corporate and myself. Mazda Corporate said they couldn't do anything about the car as they say the condition it went into the Dealership in (which is why it was taken in because it shouldn't burn 4-1/2 quarts within a week and then 4-1/2 quarts within 7 minutes). I have all of the Notes typed-up of everything that has been said and who all I have spoken too as well as all Documentation of Complaints, Some Invoices which includes the Invoice for the Engine and not showing that it is Remanufactured, and also what the Full Circle Service Inspection Report is.

Car dealers will sell you anything, and then refuse to back it with reasonable repairs...I worked for a dealership...(Putnam Mazda/Volvo, in Burlingame)...I had a rotary Mazda like your son, that stopped running, and my own dealership told me that the engine was "Blown, and Leaking coolant from the cases"...they wanted to replace the engine for $3500...I towed it home, and replaced it my self, but found that there was nothing wrong with the engine, but in fact, the computer had some broken connections, which I fixed by resoldering the pin conectors...so your experience is just the way they treat customers who ask reasonable remedies for their problems..."nothing can be done" is the standard thing they say...but it is not fair...and Mazda should make the dealer do the right thing...keep complaining, because Mazda cares about it's reputation, unlike the dealers...
