I'm formerly the head morning concierge at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel in Boston which I held court for nearly three years. One month ago I addressed the issue of an executive, sexually harrassing multiple women in my hotel. Some which were guests staying with us. The harrassment was in the form of elevator eyes, excessive staring and looming. I myself observed this executive doing this daily and it made me, a grown man, uncomfortable. I addressed the executive first and foremost to quell the problem. He didn't take the hint nor aknowledge any wrong doing, yet he took the conversation to human resources. Upon investigation not only did the hotel not interview me, but they also handed out write ups to an employee that was harrassed. Suddenly attendance issues were at the forefront of their investigation. Within a week of my addressing the situation and not being investigated I went to human resources to voice a formal complaint. That complaint was not ever filed, and the hotel had me transfered out of their property, though I'd been there for three years without incident and nothing but glowing reccommendations and comment cards. I've been approached by legal council asking for the case. I, myself am not positive if I'd like to devote the amount of time I see this process using to pursue any satisfaction involving this situation. I do however firmly believe the hotel acted without integrity, care or appropriate means. Afterall, an investigation apparently took place and yet in it's due dilligence Human Resources never did speak to me on their own. Human Resources which is in place to care for the employees of the Hotel. All the employees, not just the executives. Still working in the Boston area and residing close by I've decided to write this in hopes of thwarting off potential issues in the future. if you are a women and thinking of staying at the Hyatt, don't do so. The Hyatt has allowed for this man to continue working on sight as usual and has not even acknowledged so much as a general reprimand. I believe, in todays world that when you know of a human with less than moral behavior, or one who conducts himself on the day to day in a way that is degenerate or lacking in ethics, you must call attention to the source. And these people should not be enabled, or protected by the coporation soley to protect the corporation. Afterall, the corporation in question makes its money dealing in guest services. I'm not bitter about the loss of job. I'm simply disgusted by the lack of integrity from the Human Resources dept, and the GM of that establishment. People should be aware of the dangers that lurk within the walls of a place designed for the safety, comfort, and care of all within. It was not my intention to make a severly sordid situation worse than it was. It was however my moral responsibility to do so. As it is yours as well.
