I’ve been working at the Weis Markets in Havre de Grace, MD, 21078 for a year, and the management is absolutely horrible and condescending. As of recently, I came into the store on Monday, and went into the break room (where they keep the schedules for all employees, past, present and future) and I noticed that in the present schedule, there were significantly less papers than the other two. My name was not in the schedule. So then, I went to the front desk were two managers were standing and talking, and I told them that there were significantly less papers in the ‘present’ schedule, and that I did not see my name. I explained this, and one of the managers, John, immediately says “they cut everyone’s hours”. I then ask both managers (Rebecca and John) when I worked next since this information wasn’t available on the schedule, and they gave me a pink slip that said I worked 3/7/2023, and 3/11/2023, as well as the times. Today (3/4/2023), another employee let me know that I was scheduled to work, so I called the store and was connected to another manager (Ms.Pat) and explained to her that John and Rebecca did not tell me I worked today. While speaking to her, I hear Rebecca tell Ms.Pat that she told me to come in today. This is blatantly untrue. They were more concerned with how I knew rather than the fact that Rebecca and John were untruthful, almost as if I was not supposed to know. This is not the first time managers at this location were untruthful, I’ve taken it upon myself to document via video their responses, because prior to this, another manager (Jeremiah) told me it was okay to go home because I was not feeling well and even went as far as to tell me to feel better, but told other managers that I left and didn’t inform anyone. Again, I have video evidence that this is false, but despite the evidence, I received a verbal warning from Rebecca who did not care if Jeremiah was truthful. Following this, I asked her who I could speak to, because I didn’t believe I should receive a warning for something I did not do, and she said she didn’t know. I am now starting to understand why our store keeps failing the audits. I have way more information on worse things that happen in the store, such as employees smoking weed at work, rape allegations, and bullying, however for the sake of paragraph length, I will focus this complaint solely on management.
Side note: the video attached to this complaint is where I inform the manager Jeremiah that I was not feeling good. He asks me if I have any sick hours, tells me that he’ll ask Ms.Pat if I do, and tells me to feel better. Following this, he tells another manager (Rebecca) that I did not inform anyone that I was leaving, and just left abruptly, to which I received a verbal warning. This is the video Rebecca refused to see.
Desired outcome: I believe it would be best if an HR representative came and and spoke to the managers about being respectful towards customers and employees, as well as honesty and professionalism.
Weis Markets - harassment from an employee
A few days ago I was shopping at weis, as I do every other day because I live so close, so its an easy trip.in self scan I heard one of the employees call me and my friend barn animals and continue to taunt and laugh at us. This afternoon, today, I recieved a direct message on instagram from the same employee who was harassing me in store the other day. This time she was making fun of my appearance and said she can't wait to see me in stores again. She also gave proof of calling me a barn animal. Its sad that I cant even feel safe enough to go to my own grocery store during this pandemic. I will be meeting a higher up in person within the next few days to speak about this issue. Im disappointed and disgusted with the choice of people they have for employees. Very unnecessary.
