At exactly 8:47 PM EST, I walked into your Fallas store in Pleasant Ridge. Upon entering another person and myself were informed that the store would be closing in 10 minutes (should have been 13-but close enough). All I needed to purchase was a couple pair of small size 5 undergarments.
The same employee who had just informed us that the store would be closing in 10 minutes, followed me back to the ladies underwear section. The employee was black and presented herself in a very demeaning manner, continuously following me and repeating the same statement "store is closing in 5 minutes", "you won't be able to make a purchase" and the "the registers are closing". I counted these statements 18 times in 2 minutes.
I informed her that I was looking for some smaller garments that would fit me, and hoped she would be able to assist in finding some. So very disturbing and disappointing that she continued to pressure me into leaving the store without a purchase. Her rude comment that I should not have waited until that hour to shop there was completely inappropriate.
I explained to the employee that she was being very rude and disruptive; that I was only looking and didn't really care if I made a purchase or not--and asked her to stop with the comments that she was bothering me. This entire experience was alarming, caused anxiety and pushing on discrimination. After clearly letting her know that I heard all these comments clearly, she continued with more of the same.
Finally with her right on my back heals, I was even afraid that I might literally step on her toes if I moved an inch in the wrong direction, I spotted some size 5 briefs. Her comments didn't stop there, she kept on as I quickly walked to the front of the store to make my purchase with a time stamp on the cash register receipt of 8:54 PM.
All of this could have been avoided as I did acknowledge when I first entered the establishment of the closing time. It should not have made any significant difference whether I was making a purchase or not...I still had 13 minutes to find a suitable product and the store was still open until 9:00 PM est. Had your employee been of any assistance, I might have even found what I was looking for sooner and gotten to the register by 8:50!
