I applied for a job offered by Aerotek. Then went to their office and filled out an application with professional contacts included. And waited. And waited. I called three days later and said that they cannot confirm my previous employment so they will NOT be forwarding my app. and resume to the perspective employer. I said why the heck not and was told that since they cannot verify past employment, it will not go. I gave the the employment verification website to use. www.theworknumber.com but they would not use it to verify. They want to talk to previous bosses to get 'the dirt' . Stay away from these people. For all I know, the are just 'mining' for information and collecting resumes.
I would have done just that Dawneitte, but that was not good enough for them. They want 'The Dirt' on me which my company will not give. There is none. I have a great work history. The company has a safety and legal policy against giving out personal info. The caller could be a collection agency or lawyer. Of which I have no trouble with either one. I have been out of work for over a year and any interview is a gift and a ray of hope. I hope you have better luck JimBoBob. I did check at theworknumber and found that Areotek is a paid member so I do not understand what their problem is. I'll keep looking. :-)

The resaon you could not get a verification is because Hollywood Viedo does not use them. I used to work for them as well and when they went out of business they gave everyone that web site to use. But it does not work, and there is no phone number to call to get a verification.

AFAIK it is illegal for a company to do any more than confirm the data on the resume is accurate. Getting "the dirt" is what reference checking is for. At least, they are incompetent; at worst, they are intentionally violating the law (both in digging for dirt and possibly listing a bogus job).
