I have a food smoker I use to make my own jerky. I buy sliced beef roasts to make my own marinated jerky. I usually give some of it to family and co-workers. Yum Yum. As a teenager I worked in the meat department of a Thriftway store, wrapping meat and cleaning the meat dept. at night before closing. I learned the different cuts of meat and can usually pick a nice tender steak, if I'm not deceived. WinCo Food's meat department (at least the store on the west end of Hillsboro Oregon) often sells boneless beef roasts which they have sliced, about a quarter inch thick, GREAT IDEA. THE PROBLEM: About 8 months ago I got home from this store with TWO sliced roasts which they had tucked about a pound of fat under the top layer that you couldn't see without un-packaging the roast. I'm thinking, this is a rotten trick! PAYING FOR A LOT OF FAT, obviously stuck there on purpose. But I let it go, I had time to watch it cook and wanted it done. THEN, a couple months later I bought one roast to make some more jerky. Same thing, a wad of fat hidden in it! I took it back this time and informed the meat dept. cleaning lady, asking for a refund, which I got. (I was gracious to her, after all, she didn't pull this trick.) She said she'd show it to their butcher. I told her that I appreciated her efforts with this matter, as this was WRONG. Three days ago, I bought two more roasts, same thing, a wad of un-useable fat tucked into the middle. Needless to say, I took it back for a refund AND I'M DONE. THIS IS UN-ACCEPTABLE! Everyone knows (and talks about) their produce is of poor quality, often spoiling soon after you buy it (the Thriftway I worked at threw this crap away if they couldn't give it to the local charity). Sometimes (seasonally) produce is better than other times of the year, I get that. But I guess this is how they got to be, and continue to be "THE LOW PRICE LEADER" that they continually boast about. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Bye for good this time, I can't afford their LOW PRICE CRAP.
WinCo Foods - dogs in store that are not service dogs
I have gone to management now three out of the four times someone has had a dog in the store. This last time it happened I talked to Jason on Dec 27th 2010 and he said the store manager says to let it go as when they confront people about the dogs they get all irate and start yelling and the management wants to avoid that. The incident before they ask the man about his dog and he admitted it was only a comfort dog and even then they said no more. Doesn't matter that its a law. He (Jason) told me the store manager says not to even ask if its a service dog' " Just let it go" were his exact words. I have shopped in Winco for years and have spent a lot of money ( more than the average family) and sad to say I won't be shopping here anymore.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Dear Shopper,
It is my understanding that once an employee asks a customer, if their dog is a service animal, and the customer says "YES." The employee has to be satisfied with that information. They are not allowed to ask a customer to prove anything regarding a "service dog".
The only thing I know for sure, is that dogs are not suppose to sit on or inside Winco shopping carts. This is the only time management an step in and intervene. But Management have to sometimes pick their battles. The thing is that everyone has rules to follow. And there is a fine line between people rights and what is policy or law. There are always going to be those who'll try to bend the rules or do it their way. I don't think you should let this determine where you shop.
that's true in 48 states. there are 2 that allow businesses to demand the service animal's papers, though for the life of me i can't remember which 2.
i believe, but i could be wrong, that one of the two was either virginia or west virginia
