Makes Mistakes / Doesn't Stand Behind Work: my elderly parents have used this H & R Block office for 15 years. Recently, the TN IRS notified my parents that H & R Block failed to calculate & file state taxes on dividends for two tax years [protected]) The DIV documents my parents presented to their tax "expert" should have triggered a state filing (as it did 13 out of 15 years). When asked to respond, Lori Smith, a Senior Tax Adviser at this office, informed us they refuse to cover the nearly $700 in penalties and interest being imposed because TN didn't catch H&R's mistake within a 3 year window of time. My parents can ill afford this kind of tax "help".
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

I cannot believe the asinine ad that is showing locally about the angels in heaven and the guy doing his taxes who is choking. The ad is for H & R Block. Since I have had problems swallowing for 2 years now, and often do get choked, I find the advertisement highly offensive. Anyone who has ever been choked would not think this very funny. I do not know what that even has to do with taxes!
2015 H&R block software defaults to the wrong codes. Two family members I did returns for in 2012 and 2013 and now 2014, with dependents defaulted to the wrong codes unless you use the 'guide me' prompt. So I didn't use that prompt entereing all the dependent infor manually like I have done for the last 10 years and now all of a sudden tonight when reentering a dependent for my cousin, I used the 'guide me' prompt that I usually never use, because I know all of the dependents info are correct, such as soc. sec number, date of birth, lived with parent all year, etc. But while entering her 19 year old son, using the guide me prompt I noticed it defaulted to all the wrong entries, no wonder everyone who had children/dependents are being audited, this should be illegal for a defaulted entry, unless one uses the guide me prompt.
So much confusion around here.
First the cancellation of the loan program came about due to changes at IRS.
HSBC was making the loans based on information from IRS regarding whether
or not the taxpayer owed back child support, defaulted student loans or some
other gov't related debt. The IRS in their infinite wisdom no longer supplies that
information, thus the loan program is gone. You may have applied for a
Refund Anticipation Check (RAC) if so the wait time is usually 7 to14 days, subject to IRS approval. Go back and read your paperwork and you will see that it is all there in black and white. Good Luck.
