My 15yr. old daughter's appt. was at 10:30AM on 12/29/2010. She arrived prior to appt. time and was then called to a small room to review her H&P records. Her dad was told that she would need a letter from her physician giving her medical release for dental treatment.
H&P: She has Bipolar Syndrome~responds to anticonvulsants with behavioral therapy. The Asperger's is managed by giving short oral instructions and to attempt to adhere to a schedule. Seasonal allergies are controlled by Singulair and Zyrtec. She has a Grade I murmur of her heart with no treatment required. Prophylactic measures are not implemented nor necessary according to the American Pedi. ###'c. nor the American Dental ###'c. prior to dental work. Asthma has not caused any issues since her toddler yrs.
She has been seen for approximately 2yrs. by your facility in Amarillo's Kool Smiles. The refusal was based on her health history. The health issues have not been problematic for the past 5yrs. nor caused any delays in any of her dental, medical, psychiatric, or rehabilitative modalities.
HOW TO SOLVE: The dentist should review the charts 24-48hours prior to appt’s. Then the client could be called in the event of a discovery made and be rescheduled. This would avoid inconveniencing clients, families, and staff by notifying them a schedule change is unavoidable.
