Hope you don't run into any problems and expect the general manager, Kerry McHugh, to do anything but dismiss you and tell you "maybe you should go to 24 Hour Fitness"
Spoke on the phone with an employee who explained to me the packages/prices, and how if I came in before the special ended, I'd pay a $10 enrollment fee. I was told BOTH memberships included access to the tanning bed- and the $20 membership you could pick on ammenity- so I was going to do the cardio room. She said that she would give my friend and I VIP passes to try out the gym before we put a card on file and joined. When we went in and she went over the prices again, I got completely different information. Turns out tanning IS an ammenity, and not included in both membership as I had been told previously, and I'd have to pick between that and the cardio room or pay $30 a month. It was a whole mess of confusion and that's not really the point of this. Anyway, she went on to tell us that we actually had to JOIN right then, or we wouldn't get the special, which is completely different from what she had told me on the phone. What happened to this 3 day VIP pass to try it out? It suddenly disappeared. I'm not going to join the gym and don't even get a chance to check it out like everyone else that joins. I was told "it was the busy time of year for them". Well, do you want business or not? You have to do what you say you are. So I ask to speak to the manager. He comes over, doesn't introduce himself, doesn't say a word...so I begin to tell him the problem. ...
All he had to say to us was "We don't give out passes. You can pay $10 to work out today and try it out. I need to know who told you that because I need to reprimand them." Well...reprimand her if you will but unfortunately it was your staff that told me that (I had/still have the text messages sent to me from her to prove that) and whether it's a mistake on JF's part or not, it's wrong to tell a potential customer basically to get over it. I've never been to a gym where they outright refuse a pass so you can try it out and join. Again, are you trying to run a business here or you just don't care about my business because "it's the busy time of year"? He repeated himself a second time and told us we could pay $10 to work out and try it out or "maybe you should go to 24 Hour Fitness and see if they'll give you a pass"... and then walked off. Never once an "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding... we'll take care of this for you..." Nothing.
We had every intention of joining. But he treated us with such disregard and disrespect, and then dismissed us off to another gym. I would never take my business there again or even put myself around his negative energy again. So, naturally, we left, and went to Blast Fitness where they had $1 enrollment and were SO NICE! It was so refreshing after being subjected to his disrespectful attitude. They GLADLY offered us to try out the gym, even though it was PACKED in there, they did not turn us away because it's "a busy time of year".
I NEVER write reviews but I was so disgusted after leaving, I hope I can at least warn a few people in case they ever have to deal with him. The rest of the staff seemed pretty nice, but I have never in my life been treated like that by someone who is supposed to be an EXAMPLE to his fellow employees! The manager of all people! Sorry this was terribly long but if you took the time to read it all, I think you got the idea.
