Between May 1st and May 5th of 2013, I applied for employment at LIFE ALERT in Tampa Florida located at 1211 North Westshore Boulevard #110 in Tampa, Florida [protected]. LIFE ALERT requested a criminal background check through Intelius..The search revealed an arrest on May 10th 2010 for possesing a prescription without a name on it.The prescription was my prescription.I retained an attorney who collected all of my prescription
records and other material that indicated that this was my prescription which was non - narcotic..It was for my gout and other arthritic conditions. The management confronted me in an aggresive and demeaning manner manner and told me that
because they had Intelius conduct a professional background search
that I was lying.Of course, this rendered me non employable at this business.I had been telemarketing part time since June of 1989 and full time since March of 1998.Yes, there was no doubt that I could perform this job with nothing less than excellence.
This charge never went to court and was sealed in Pinellas County Court System .It was sealed in Septenber of 2011.
Several months after my rejection and harrasenent at Life Alert in 2013, I received a notice from a law firm stating that this had happened to more people and that we were due up to $2000.00 due of the severity of the case and, at least, something due to the fact that they did not even conduct a legal and proper criminal background check.Intelius provided a specific website for the affected employees to lodge their particular
complaint.I called the telephone number provided on the website and asked when the settlement was to be disbursed. They said around April of 2015.
The website that was set up by Intelius for individuals directly affected by Intelius' negligence was taken down with no further contact information.I called and not a single department knew of these faulty background checks even though it had been through the court system.
In retrospect, Intelius saved money by submitting arrest reports gathered from arrests that never had a final despostion. The court system knew it and Intelius admitted it and settled upon their illegal acts. How can this clearly documented case dissapear?
Intelius - refusal to delete my credit card and name information
On this website you register enter your information and then when you go and try to get the information for the reverse lookup it keeps putting you back into the login mode. they refused to delete my information and only disable my account from their side. they said their is no way for me to delete it on my own. they said they had to keep the credit card on record and my information for tax purposes when I told them I know you can no do it. if I am not a customer you can not use me for tax purposes and you do not use someone's information especially their credit card for tax purposes. then she said oh we just cant delete the information from our files our computer wont let us.

I am getting unauthorized charges on my card. I called intelius and stopped them months ago, they stopped and now they started up again. How can this be legal? They were sued by the state of washington and were supposed to change their behavior but apparently it did nothing. This company is nothing but a scam.
Like other Intelius one-time customers, I was billed for the same service many times. This company advertises fake (not what they really provide) services and bills its customers over and over again. It is criminal!
This company advertises that they only charge your credit card if they find information for you. Not true. They charged my credit card and found nothing. When I wrote to them, they told me that I could have a "credit" toward another search. I don't want another search, I want my money back, which was never supposed to be taken in the first place.
Intelius has been unresponsive to my request to remove my personal information from their website. They request "verification" of said personal information, but provide no guarantees they won't just use this verification to further harrass me and invade my privacy. Careful - this is likely a scam!
I went on the intelius web-site as a favor for a friend. It was the $1.95 special, cancel anytime. We found no real useful information, so I immediately canceled, yet a $19.95 charge is on my VISA. I didn't authorize this and when I call their number, I get a series of messages and never get through. Beware of this fraudulent company!
******BEWARE******** do not subscribe to this service... they will continue to charge your account for unused service, and even after complaint and cancel, they would not refund charges. THIS IS A SCAM ! I had to call customer service at 5AM just to get a "real person" to speak to.
After cancelling my membership and receiving a confirmation from Intelius on Nov. 5th 2010, today 11-23-10 I have found on my checking account this morning when checking it online that they have deducted the $19.95 from my account again. I've tried to call and all I got was a voice message saying they were unable to take calls today and that I could email them. What a head ache just to cancel a membership.
Every month I'm being charged $19.99 out of my account. I did not authorized Itelius to take money out of my account. I what this robbery to stop immediately.
Dear Sir: Last month we canceled our subscription to your service. On September 1, 2010 you deducted 19.95 from my Lilly account. Please cancel the service.
Winton D. Jones Jr.
They did not inform me that they will be charging monthly for an inquiry that I mde just once. They are charging me a monthly fee of something I am not using. I want the fee/s to be reimbursed to me, my information/data and subscription (if any) cancelled.
Thank you.
Intelius - cannot delete account
Intelius charged my credit card without my authorization through a company namec ValueMax. Fortunately ValueMax returned what they took from me but now I cannot delete the account that I have set up with Intelius. After speaking with a supervisor, she claimed they are unable to do that for "tax purposes" which is totally ridiculous. No where on their website is there anything telling you how to delete your account. Beware before you give your credit card information to this company. I wish someone had told me this before I used their site for a people search. At least the supervisor supposedly disable the account so no one can get into. Use caution before you use this company.

Intelius - free trial scam for identity protect
I got taken for $339.15 because I didnt' get the monthly receipts via email and I use their services for other background checks so the $19.95 went unnoticed I'm sorry to say for 17 months. I've never used the Identity Protect service as I'm already a customer of a much more robust ID service. I contacted customer service and was only able to get 3 of the 17 payments credited back. My credit card company Chase, is telling me they can't help me - will go to one of their branch offices face to face as a next step. Here is what else I'm doing and I would highly suggest others do the same as it may help drive the point hope with these guys.
Contact the executives of the company directly both by voice and email. Here is how you do it. Email address format is typically first initial last name @intelius.com ie. CFO Paul Cook is [protected]@intelius.com To get them on the phone you cannot use the main # as this goes to an automated attendant with no way to dial out. To get an executive directly use their main phone number of [protected] and substitute the last 4 numbers with extensions 6101 through 6115 (may be others beyond that but this is a start). Don't bother with x6105 as this goes to EVP John K. Arnold who is now spending 45 days in Federal prison for lying to a Grand Jury about having sex at one of Frank Colacurcio's strip clubs. Article here http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/dailyweekly/2010/02/intelius_co-founder_john_arnol.php
• Bill Owens, Chairman, Age 69
• Naveen Jain, President & CEO, Age 49, $276, 250 annual salary

• Kevin R. Marcus, CTO, Age 34
• Jim Adler, Chief Privacy Officer
• William R. Kerr, Chief Corporate Officer and Director, Age 54, $100, 000 annual salary

• Irina Z. Leversee, Controller
Needless to say, I will be taking my background check work elsewhere as clearly this company is a sleazy business. On a separate note, their paperwork regarding filing for an IPO states they are aware of the numerous BBB complaints about their "free Identity Protect trial" issue. Clearly they don’t care about their customers.
No I wasn't neglectful of my duties. And Intellius is a scam - otherwise why hide the fact you are charging for this this service in tiny little print with other text and buttons designed to lead the consumer way from these facts. Why when you send the email receiepts for services do you not send any email receipts for the Identity Protection Service. Why do you change the name of the charge every month so it shows up differently on credit card statements. Why are there lawsuits out there - and at least one of them decided in favor AGAINST Intellius for the same reasons. Why is one of your executives in jail for lying to a Grand Jury. Why is your CEO have such a bad reputation under former companies for playing BS with investors. Oh yeah - that is to hide the fact that Intellius is trying to get these charges as a scam and can't make enough money by being above board and honest. I got ALL my money back - so there - loser

@tagurit,
How were u able to recover all of the money? I am interested because the excact same thing happened to me. Charges of 19.95 went on for about 17 months. I managed to get one charge taken off as a "courtesy" but I'd really like ALL of it refunded.
Any advice?
I can't believe you are able to dig up this much dirt on the company, but you some how managed NOT to notice 17 MONTHS of reoccurring fees. And you some how managed NOT to notice the details on how the program works. Here's the link: https://secure.phoneaddressdirectory.com/idp_offer_details.html
It's not like you were charged for cancelling within your 7 day trial. NO. You didn't cancel AT ALL!
So OF COURSE Chase isn't going to help you. You were neglectful of your duties as a consumer. 17 months!
You should learn a lesson to watch your monthly bank statements from now on. Charge it to "the game".
Intelius - failing to use public records
Intelius provides the ability to find people based on "public records, " so it claims. However, when I wrote Intelius about not using public records to correct their information, I never received a response and the errors were never corrected.
Other people finder websites began using the Intelius web results as well when they were incorrect.
As a result, my husband's ex-wife is listed as a relative as mine, and is also listed as living with me. I, however, am the original owner of my home as I had it built.
Because of this gross error, I received constantly harassing phone calls about my husband's ex-wife not paying her bills. They set the calls up on automatic calling so a recording picks up and then you have to call them back. Even after I call them back, they make a note that she is not a resident, but keep calling anyway because they have no other address for her even though I live in Virginia and she lives in South Carolina.
How can I get Intelius to correct their records using actual public records. My husband's ex-wife has never even lived in my city let alone my house, and she is definitely not a relative of mine.

The same thing is happening to me. False charges, over charges etc. Please post any information regarding class action suit (s). This post site should be kept current by all dissatisfied consumers. Again post class action information. This form of action will hit them where it counts and you know attorneys will do their best to accomplish just that! Intelius - unauthorized charges pmindentity.com $19.95
After paying for their search service, you will start to see a $19.95 charge each month from pmidentity.com even though you did not sign up for this service. The majority of Intelius revenue is coming from this hidden charge. This is a known scam exposed by TechCrunch.com:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/05/29/naveen-jains-intelius-prepares-to-go-public-how-much-of-their-revenue-is-a-scam/
This company is owned by the billionaire, Naveen Jain, who made his money from the controversial InfoSpace.com. That story is fully covered by the Seattle Times below:

I want to cancel my substription; But I can't because custoner service will not respond.
That isn't good business practice. So what I am going to do is stop any payment from them . Though my Bank . So if they keep on chargeing me they will have to swollow the bill. Take Me To Court!
Intelius - no refund
I purchased an online phone report from Intelius on 6/20/08 for a price of $4.96. When I received my receipt online, I was charged a total of $9.90. When I called Intelius customer service, I was told 3 times that the extra charge was an error of their online program. When I asked for my $4.94 back as it was Intelius's error, I was told that Intelius does not give refunds. I explained that if it was Intelius's error it would not be considered a refund. The customer service person repeated 3 more times that Intelius does not give refunds. I called Intelius back thinking I was dealing with an unhelpful person, but no, the second person repeated the same "no refund" line.

Intelius Inc is involved in a systematic consumer fraud. These guys sign you up (without your permission) for some protection plan and then start billing you $19.95 per month.
After I called then twice, they gave me reference numbers, promised to disable my account, and continued to charge my credit card. I am not only only person who has been fraudulently charged by these guys. If you search through google, I found hundreds of complaints by consumers who have been scammed in a very similar way.
Everyone reading this complaint needs to also file complaints through Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Protection Agency. There should be Department of Justice enquiry against the CEO of this company and someone needs to go to jail.
Enough is enough.
I ordered a People Search Report in the amount of $1.95 and was subsequently signed up for a People Search Membership and my credit card was charged $19.95. I submitted a complaint online and was sent a link to cancel my membership. Once I did this there was a $19.95 credit that showed up on my account. I will never use the services of this online company ever again. For anyone that is looking to utilize a People Search Service use another service and save yourself the hassle of dealing with this Company.
Attempted to use their service & a charge of $19.95 for unrelated services appeared on my bank account for health plan.

Intelius - unauthorized charges
This company has been making unauthorized charges on my credit card. They harged my account numerous times, in Jan, April and June 2008 for a subscription service I did not order or authorize. Total loss $66.00. Intelius does not have customer service personel to respond to my omplaints, so I disputed the charges with my credit card company.

This company is a fraud and they are scamming the general public of most likely millions of dollars. Where is the US Attorney General? Shut down this company! File a class action lawsuit against INTELIUS.COM !
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
can't contact Intelius to cancel membership. I have tried so many times. Can you help?
We found two charges from this company on our charge card in March 2008 that we did not authorize. Apparently there is something with this company going on that when the charges were put on, our credit card company put on a fraud alert and have temporarily shut down our card. So beware. This is supposed to be some kind of people information service, does background checks, etc. But I wouldn't use them.
Intelius.com has been charging my account 19.95 for the past 4 months when I never authorized them to charge anything. I have never even heard of intelius.com until I recently went thru my bank statement. Their supervisor refused to credit back the 4 months of charges even though they could clearly see that I had never accessed such an account. They're ripping customers off and taking our money without us even knowing about it. They've offered to credit back a month of the service, even though they've already taken $80 bucks from me without authorization. GRRRR! How do companies with unjust practices stay in business? Boycott Intelius.com and watch your bank statements for fraudulent charges near you!
It's January 2011 and this company is STILL doing this! I just canceled my credit card with Chase because of these people! I used them for a people search ONCE last year and apparently they've been charging me $19.95 a month Plus $.99 to see if my credit card was active. Thankfully this was caught within a month of them starting it!
They have billed me twice.
I just noticed this on my statement! I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Let me know when the suit starts!
I ordered one search and thought I was being billed $5.95. The search I did pay for was not helpful at all and I ended up locating the information I needed on my own using some local phone books/records. About a week later I noticed two charges on my bank statement for $19.95.
I called the customer service number and they indicated that one $19.95 charge was a package deal that allowed me to conduct 25 more searches and the other $19.95 charge was for an identity protection service. I did not realize I had signed up for either service and the customer service rep did indicate that they would drop my service and reimburse me these amounts. Although I was thankful that they responded and agreed to take care of this ASAP, I believe that their intent is to hope that you won't notice these additional fees and unknowingly sign-up for these package "deals".
It's hard to believe these people are still getting away with sharing your personal information with the whole world. Especially with identity theft so rampant. The fact that they still exist makes me wonder if they're not in league with the government.
Please Napolitano, SHUT THEM DOWN!
This company is sharing your personal data with the world. They need to be stopped.
I did enroll in on service with this company and cancelled right after the information I wanted was found. They activated my account without my permission and have taken two more charges from my bank acccount. I don't know what to do. I hate to close the account, but if they do not credit back these latest two bogus charges I am going to do just that and report them to the Better Business Bureau. Their business practices are dishonest and misleading.

Intelius - unauthorized charges!
These # suckers allowed another company, www.privacymattersidentity.com, to use my credit card number to charge my credit card account for a membership to privacymattersidentity.com without my authorization. www.privacymattersidentity.com stated that there was a pop up that by clicking on it, I accepted a membership through privacymatters.com but that it was done in agreement with www.intelius.com..
Kind of funny how this is supposed to be a company specializing in background checks in order to discover criminal history... that is pretty f*ckin criminal themselves if you ask me...

I'm not sure how we can stop these crooks; but maybe some of us should look into a Law Firm to start some sort of class action suit; that might get everyone's money back in the long run. I realize these type of suits take a very long time, but some Law Firms will take them on a percent type basis, You know they get paid only if they win the case... And, I'm sure they could and would win against these crooks! This is only one of many internet sites/pages that list many people, just like us, that have been ripped off for hundreds of dollars! Yes, me too!
I forgot to mention that I was also told that the billing was through Intellius, whatever that is!
I signed up for classmates.com and then was charged for that service as well as $19.95 twice in one day for a credit report that I have no idea I even signed up for. The person on the phone told me that I clicked on a free trial for a credit report that I have never asked for and then I clicked on something else that said I would be charged monthly. She talked so fast I barely know what she said. When I asked if I could get any of that back she said "no but I will cancel it and you will no longer be charged. So, I am out almost $80.00
My bank made me aware of the charges and gave me Intelus' phone number. I was on hold for 16 mins. and finally the customer service rep answered and said that I had committed to this bogus program. I asked that the agreement be forwarded to my email along with a record of cancellation. GET THIS! He said they did not have the technical ability to send emails!
I was also scammed by this company: I really got pinched but you should all report this to the FCC and FBI online because that is what I did. do these charges look familiar to anyone. i went for seven months without knowing i was being charged! I ordered a credit report through Intelius.com. this is a big fat scam. everyone should stay farrrrrrr away from this company. and please report these crimes!

Just got charged by this company "privacymattersidentity.com -- had to freeze my bank account -- did NOT authorize my credit card to be debited and have NO idea what this is for, but plan on pursuing this and reporting to the Better Busines Bureau online and the Attorney General
I've just seen that they have been charging my wife's business credit card for months. The payment of $19.95 per month has been going to www.privacymattersidentity.com. I called this outfit, and they claimed it was done through Intelius. Rip off! I'm out over a hundred dollars.
I also had unauthorized charges by this company. When contacted, I was told that I had agreed to its "terms and conditions" . I am not sure where these "terms and conditions" appear on the web site.
The result was was two $19.95 charges monthly to my account for no services.
I have been assured by company rep, Chris Employee #14833, that my account will be credited for charges within 2-3 business days.
If not, the A.G. of my State will be notified of company's "fraudulent and misleading" actions--This may not result in a refund, and may be ineffective due to company's location in US., but possibility of Canadian corporation... which would require Federal action...not a valid solution to recover $39.90.
We shall see...meantime, I'm out money, not sure future charges to my account are stopped, and seem to have no recourse. To be fair, if account is credited and future charges stopped, I will revise this e-mail.
I know Itelius, they claimed that I gave ok through an email, which they could never produce. And since I did not authorize payment they cancelled future payments. Just call your bank and tell them someone stole your credit card and they will reissue you a new with a new number. But first make sure you have money on hand for emergencies. Also beware of mall stores that offers other discounts in the mail just before take your payment. That another way how your information is shared and beware of unknown emails.
