Verrazano Moving & Storage review: Horrible movers 6

In the beginning of may 2010 i was looking for a moving company to come and move me out of the house i grew up in, i called this company to set up an estimate. After several cancelled appointments, they finally showed up, 2 hours later than they originally told me. The salesman walked around my house and wrote down all the furniture i had, after about ten minutes, i found out he wasn't able to give me a price, until he spoke to his boss, who would eventually contact me with a price. I spoke to a man named John in the office who gave me a price for my move. I did have other estimates from a few different moving companies, and i stupidly made the mistake of choosing Verrazano, because they were so local.

On the day of my move, is when it all went downhill. They promised they would be here first thing in the morning, i sat by the window for about an hour before calling the office. I spoke to John again, who told me that some of his men did not show up for work, and that i would have to reschedule, I told this was unacceptable because I couldn't take another day off work. I immediately started calling the other moving companies in which i had spoken to, however they were already booked up. At that point i realized i was stuck with Verrazano. I got the impression from John that he didn't even want the job. The next day when they finally arrived at my house, 3 rough looking men showed up at my door and began to move my stuff. I explained to the driver that my TV was brand new and had only had it for a little over a week, i had the original box for it, however, they insisted on wrapping it in moving blankets.

I could not believe it took these men the better part of the day to load up the few items that i had. At the end of my move, the bill was so high, i had to ask my father for help. They took their time, and charged me for the hour that they were late, plus the time that it took them to eat while on the way to my new apartment, and to top it off, they scratched my brand new plasma screen, which i didn't notice until my cable guys showed up later that day. THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS! I will never use hourly movers again, Especially these guys!

My name is James and I'm the president of Verrazano Movimg & Storage Inc. We specialize in written binding estimates, no hidden cost no surprises.
There are several obvious clues as to how I know this is a bogus complaint. My estimator makes his own appointments and is extremely reliable. In the six years he has worked with me I have never known him to reschedule an appointment, and he is never ever late.
Secondly, this person claims she moved on an hourly basis and the men were slow. We never, ever, send an estimator out on an hourly based move. When we perform an in home survey, the price is in writing and binding. It's all inclusive and the customer knows exactly how much the move is BEFORE we start. Our binding price policy is the number one reason customers go with Verrazano over our competitors, who only give quotes over the phone and low ball the actual cost.
Thirdly, if our estimator went out to her home she would have been informed of our company policy that all flat screen and plasma televisions MUST be packed or in its original box. The price of packing this item would have been detailed on her written binding estimate. If a customer doesn't have the original box, or refuses to pay for the item to be packed, they would be required to sign a waiver assuming responsibility. Also curious how the screen supposedly got scratched when she herself claims the man wrapped it in a quilt pad blanket.
Fourth, we have five local trucks. We would never have the need to cancel a move because one man didn't show up. Over the years we have developed quite a list of experienced drivers and helpers, who we can call at anytime. I have shown up short handed until a replacement can get to us ( price adjusted ) but in 17 years I have never canceled a move, and left a customer in a bind. What did I do with the other two men who did show up, tell them to go home?
Fifth, when we do perform an hourly move, the customer signs the men in with a start time, and a finish time. The men are required to call in when the jobs starts, when the truck is loaded, when they arrive at the new residence, and 15 minutes before the job is complete. The men are asked if they took lunch and that time is deducted from the move. All these times are verified through a gps tracking system that is installed on every truck. I can say with absolute confidence, this claim is phony. If I'm wrong (I'm not) please feel free to call me personally, I promise to look into your claim personally. The only reason I'm aware of this post is because I was contacted by a company seeking to represent me (for a fee I'm sure), against this claim. I don't need their services. I'm proud of my company and the work we do. Shame on the phony who posted this.
If your looking for a reputable mover call us and see for yourself. I will be happy to answer any questions anyone may have [protected] Thank You

I have moved many times in my life in various parts of the country and have never encountered such horrible service. My mother and her husband were moving stuff from his place in Brooklyn down to their home in South Carolina. I helped them try to find competent movers for a good price.

Verrazano Moving (also known as Father & Son) said that they would move their stuff at a flat rate $61 per 100 lbs. We booked the move through John about 2 weeks ago and the move was scheduled for yesterday, June 29th between 11-2 pm. My mom and her husband (who is currently in a wheelchair) waited in the house with no air conditioning and the mover never arrived. She called to see what happened and they said they would be there between 4-6 pm that same day. They never showed up. We called again and they said the would 100% come today (June 30th) between 9-11 am.

We called at 9 am to confirm (again) that they would be coming. We spoke to Sean who was the nastiest person I have ever encountered. Sean told my mother that "SHE picked the busiest day of the month to move." Meanwhile, we actually were quite flexible on the move-date and it was scheduled for yesterday, not today. My mom asked if they would 100% be arriving in the next two hours, his response "Well, you know, nothing in life is guaranteed. I could get hit by a bus tomorrow." I kid you not, that is what he said.

My mom responded that they were waiting in a hot house with two kids and her husband was in a wheelchair. Sean's response: "everyone has a sob story."

This place must be making hand over fist if they think it okay to treat people this way. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

So, my mom waited until 4 pm and prayed they would show up. They did not. She ended up renting a U-Haul, packing it up herself, and driving it down to South Carolina. I'm seriously considering filling a small claims action against this company.

Also, in case you're wondering...here's some helpful information from Yelp.com's site about attorney's contacting you about legal action:

Websites like Yelp are protected under federal law by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Your attorneys will be able to find dozens of cases on point if they aren't already familiar with the statute, but Zeran v. AOL, 129 F. 3 327, 330 (4th Cir. 1997) is a good place to start.

You should also tread lightly if you are considering legal action against a reviewer. Defamation suits are notoriously expensive and difficult to win, and they tend to focus everyone's attention on the very stuff that you'd like them to ignore. Worse still, you run a very real risk of running up against an Anti-SLAPP statute and having to pay attorneys' fees to the other side. We know of at least one business owner who learned this the hard way. In the big picture, there may be rare cases when it is appropriate to take legal action, but in most cases, you won't get what you're looking for by suing someone who gives you a bad review.

I used Verrazano Movers on Saturday June 26th, 2010 after being recommended to them by a friend who family has used them several times and I was more than pleased with the service I was provided. My husband and I called them with just 3 days notice and they were able to fit us in first thing Saturday morning. My husband described our furniture and belongings to someone over the phone and was given an estimate and an explanation of what their services entailed. He was told over the phone the company's TV policy and insurance fee and any other fees that could possibly arise.

The morning of our move when the guys arrived the first thing they did was have us initial the bill next to the start time and explained everything that they were doing in detail. They were extremely friendly, professional and amazing at what they did. They wrapped all my couches in fabric and shrink wrap and treated the flat screen like it was made out of fine china. They loaded everything we owned into the van in 90 minutes, beat us to our new place and had everything unloaded in record speed and not one thing was damaged or broken. I was amazed watching these guys work.

At the end of the move the bill was EXACTLY what we were quoted to the dollar, not a penny over. Not only would I use these guys again but I would invite them to stay for dinner, that's how pleasant it was to deal with them.

I have no doubt that Verrazano sometimes provides good service - how else would they stay in business? However, with my particular situation, our move was quite small and it's clear that along the line they decided it wasn't worth it. So, sure, if your move is worth it to them perhaps you'll get lucky. But who in the world wants to take the chance with movers? I, for one, do not want to hope that my movers will change their mind when a more profitable move comes along. Bad business.

My moving arrangement was made a week before the move. I was referred by a neighbor who spoke very highly of the crew that moved them. I received a quote after providing information with regard to rooms, furniture and the location of the new address. On the day of the move the truck was actually 10 mins ahead of the schedule. The driver Gino had shown me the estimate that was quoted by John the week before and after doing some paper work he and his crew got moving. All three gentlemen were professional and respectful. My property was wrapped in blankets and taped and there was no damage at all. The job was completed at the quoted estimate. I would recommend this company without hesitation.
