I got a call from a guy working for World Connect at about 10:30 am on 28 Oct 2008. He could not provide me specific details about where I allegedly entered into this competition. He mentioned that I answered a questionnaire on my opinions on "lifestyles in South Africa" which was distributed from Jan - June this year. He said my spouse and I have entered into a competition to win a car. I am not married nor have I been engaged to anyone before. I definately would not enter into a competition if I knew up front that I need to have a spouse in order to qualify.
Apparently, I qualify to enter into a draw with 15 other "lucky" couples to win this car if I attend a dinner that they have set up on the 29 Oct 2008. The dinner/draw is tomorrow night (they forgot to give me a time). The venue is at VIP Offices, 28 Gilford Road, Carlswald, Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa. The guy gave me a reference number and told me that I must provide the reference number (My reference number is J75) to the security guards at the gate otherwise I would not be let in. He also emphasised that I MUST come with my spouse/wife.
I spoke to a friend about the competition and he said that he was also invited to the same competition last year and that he went for it. He said that the company tried to sell him and his girlfriend a holiday scheme. He mentioned that the company started asking him for personal details, contact details, and his credit card details, but he refused to provide the with those details until he found out why they needed them in the first place. He said that when it was time for the competition, they showed him 8 numbers and asked him to draw all of the same 8 numbers from a pot. He said he only got 1 or 2 numbers and they gave him a "HOLIDAY TICKET"! (wow! what are the chances of him getting a "free" holiday from a company selling holiday schemes!). My friend was disgusted with the whole thing. My friend also told me that another of my friends was also contacted by the same company for the same competition. Both of my friends and I do not know where the company got our contact details from.
I don't know where or how this company got my details. Please can someone investigate this company's activities?
Hi. I was just called to be invited to the prize giving ceremony for one of the above mentioned prizes. The ladies name was Belinda and her contact number is [protected]. She said i was in the final draw for one of those guarenteed prizes. And I was genuinely convinced as i often enter competitions wherever i am and i have genuinely won a few times in the past until she asked me if 2pm or 4pm is a good time for me. Lol eish and to think that they are giving false hopes to alot of people. We are fortunate enough to have access to the internet to look up stuff like this in order to satisfy our suspisions, but what about those that arent fortunate enough and spend their last money to get there in the hopes of winning a car? If i had it my way i would tie all of these scam artist to a tree and pour syrup over them so that all the birds and the bees can suck every last drop of blood out of them just as they have exploited hard working, god fearing people and drained them of all of their money. I WON A CAR! What a joke! Same story, same [protected] number, ST11 reference. Must bring the spouse blah blah blah... Not wasting my time! Got a call 10 minutes ago and Kenneth will be calling me tomorrow to confirm and I must come with an empty stomach as dinner will be provided! These people are sick!

Yup, I never trust these things. I know I entered a competition for a car a while back but I'm sure it wasn't a Chery QQ. So I played along, no need to ruin my Friday afternoon. A quick Google later and my fears were confirmed.
C'est la vie, just don't be stupid enough to be caught out. The number they called me on is [protected].

It is unbelievable that these people are still doing this scam.
The exact same happened to me! How on earth do they get our numbers? My number is specifically kept private.
Well, for one thing, if you are gullible enough to fall for anything like this, you most probably deserve what's coming to you. Nonetheless, I'm one of them...
Hence, I ask all of you who fell for this, to stand with me and try and do something against these @#$%! I'm not sure what, thus ask you to post proposals here. Phoning Vox was fruitless, we need more progressive action.
For those of you recognize this scam before they can even say “congrats”, warn as gullible folk - it's just awful to promise someone a car and slap them with a sales proposal...

Guess what peolpe, they are back for 2011. I received my call 01/03/2011 from Njabulo with the reference number BA07, telephone number [protected] with the promise that Godfrey(manager) will phone me 02/03/2011 to verify that I was contacted. So far, no call from Godfrey...
Anybody interested, the draw will be on 04/03/2011 18:00 at the same address: 28 Guildford Rd in Carlswald, Midrand.
Thanks to you people and Google, unfortunately I will NOT be able to make the draw, missing OUT on a perfect opportunity to waste my time. Njabulo clearly stated that I do not need any cash or cards because they are not selling anything, they only want to have a draw followed by a romantic dinner for two. By the way, they no longer have a SPARK up for grabs, they are now down to a CHERRY something...
Got the same call today, same phone number and same prizes. Tracy will be phoning tomorrow to confirm the address...hahahahahaha!
I also recieved a phone call from one Eddy today(26th April 2011) telling me that I have won a holiday voucher and must come to the same address for giving away reception. Bring along my ID / Driver's license for verification. He sounded so real & I nearly fell for that until I googled the addres on the internet and discoved all these complaints. Thanks guys for saving me.

Thanks to all for your comments. I received a call yesterday from a lady who said she is from Breakaway and told me to come collect free 5 day holiday vouchers, and her boss will send me directions today 29 March 2012. He called today and gave the directions, and named VIP building Midrand. I googled VIP in Midrand, only to arrive to this comments. The boss's name is Godffrey. Thanks, you helped me and my family through your comments. Hope

Also received a call from this World connect a month ago and also yesteday, Two people called me and they also said to me the Manager Golf will call me back to verify the reference no: they offer me five day braekaway holiday.Stupid Idiot Scam.I'm glad i didn't waste my time and a precious day to people they think they know everything! Stupid you loose try next door.

I just received a call as in now as well. fortunately asked my colleague. even before i finished he told me he have been called few times in the past and stories are similar. hehehehe come with your spouse when you come to collect a voucher blah blah. what scares as well is their address as we check on maps. its far from town (plots) not a busy area kind of.
