My employer does not offer health care coverage, so I am responsible to pay for and maintain my own coverage. Due to the outrageous costs of health care, I shopped on the internet for quotes-totally unaware of health insurance scams. I was contacted by a gentleman by the name of Steve Kelly representing Adova Health. Mr. Kelly can be reached @ [protected]. I checked out the website @ www.adovahealth.com, & it seemed legitimate. The "insurance" was affordable, so I signed up for the preferred plan. Adova does not do billing, so the monthly payments would be deducted from my checking account. The first payment deducted was for $299.95-$199.95 for the first month + a $100 one time processing fee. Deductions would then be $199.95 per month thereafter.

I received my membership handbook and "insurance" cards in the mail. Nothing stating the name Adova Health on them-the company name on everything is Consumer Alliance USA. As it turns out, this is not "insurance", but a health care savings plan. When I went to check out the website again, it is was longer there.

Mr. Kelly advised me that if my doctors were not in the network, all I had to do was call their (Consumers Alliance USA) customer service @ [protected] and "nominate" my doctors. Surprise, this was not the case. I could only use doctors/hospitals that were under the Beech St. Network or the Comprehensive Health Group-many of which weren't even located in the state of Michigan-most were in Ohio!

For my optical insurance, I was told that I was through VSP Vision. When I called VSP, they didn't even have me in their system-not by name, social security number, or member #-nothing! For my dental insurance, I was originally told that I was through Reliance Standard. When I called Reliance, same thing-I wasn't in their system. When I called Consumers Alliance USA customer service (again, @ [protected]), they then told me that I did NOT have to go through Reliance Standard for my dental, & that I could go to any dentist of my choice. When I complained that I wasn't "in the system" for VSP or Reliance, they told me that I didn't need to be. I've never heard of such a thing. I verified with VSP, Reliance, my eye doctor, and my dentist that YES, I MUST be in the system in order for my claims to be processed. My eye doctor and dentist BOTH contact insurance companies PRIOR TO scheduled appointments to verify insurance. Otherwise, the patient is responsible for full payment the day of care.

I have spent countless hours this week trying to get this resolved. I have lost time on my job and sleep. I have gotten nothing but the runaround from Consumer Alliance USA. Nobody there seems to know what they're talking about-different answers from every person I talk to. Mr. Kelly won't answer any of my questions. Now he says he is "just a broker" & to contact customer service. When I asked him what happened to the website, he told me he was unaware that it no longer existed. I was informed by a female @ his office that Adova Health has changed their name to Consumer Alliance USA & that their website is now www.causabenefits.com. I did go to this website, and it looks very similar to the Adova Health website that "used to be".

So far, "Adova Health" (the name used for auto deductions from my checking account) has deducted $499.90 out of my checking account. I called my bank today to put a stop payment on any further deductions from this company. This stop payment cost ME $33.00. This stop payment is good for 6 months. However, it is only good for $199.95-so if Adova Health tries to deduct a different amount (say, $200) from my account, it is possible that it may go through... you see, I'm taking my chances here.

I did an internet search for possible scams on Adova Health & Consumer Alliance USA, & surprise, I found some. /link removed/ has at least 12 different complaints regarding these companies-stating the exact same things that have happened to me. Unfortunately, some of these people are out a lot more money than I am.

I've got nothing but the runaround trying to cancel this today at the customer service number. So I called Mr. Kelly's office again. The female that answered put me through to another female's voice mail to cancel-which she didn't even state her name on the voice mail. I'm sure I won't get a call back. I'm sure I won't get any kind of a refund. I also find it strange that when you call the [protected] #, they answer "health companies"-no specific name.

$532.90 ($499.90 taken out of my account + $33.00 for the stop payment) is A LOT of money to me. I'm so lucky that I hadn't gone to any of my appointments yet. Otherwise, I would've been out a lot more.

Unfortunately, I'm without health coverage. Hopefully I'll stay healthy and safe until then. It makes me not want to even leave the house, for fear that something may happen. I guess it doesn't matter as I have been, not knowingly, without coverage for the past few months.

I've been scammed. So many other people have been scammed. These people are messing with our lives. We need to get the work out... DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!

I was taken by Adova, they told me that my daughter and myself would be covered and when they took the money and sent the info that was not the case. I spoke with someone that told me that I would be refunded my entire 259.00$ and that the policy would be cancelled, Well on Nov 8th they tried to take money out of the account and overdrew my account. Luckily my credit union was already informed of this matter and will be pressing fraud charges against this sick company. Adova is the worst scam of all they took money from hard working families and don't provide any type of service this company will go down in history as one of the worst!

I absolutely agree that this company is a scam. I have been paying into an accident plan with them for almost 5 years without incident. I went to file my first claim and found out that they have no idea how to help me process a claim. After trying unsuccessfully for about 4 months to file a claim for my injury, I decided to give up and stopped payment. I called them to see if they could bill me and it turns out they terminated me without notice. Good thing because I don't want to deal with them any more.

This company is currently under investigation by the insurance fraud department of Georgia(that is not the exact name, but that's what they do and where they are located). I submitted alot of documentation to them regarding their Adova's fraudulent practices. If anyone has documentation and would like to file a class action lawsuit please contact me. There are hundreds of posts like this of people who have been scammed. Something should be done!

This plan is not a scam. I checked them out and they are fully insured. My claims have always been handled and paid according to the plan documents. I also checked with the DOI in Georgia and there is no investigation. It really irks me when companies are slandered by uninformed andlazy consumers who dont read the documents and insteada rely on hearsay from bulletin boards like this.

Making claims like this and in the previous commments about "hundreds" of non-existent complaints is not good consumerism.

I'm sure there are many more happy customers like me than disgruntled one like you.

I agree w/ the gentleman that just posted his comments on Adova Health and he is right this plan is not a scam. I had coverage w/ them for some time and they always paid my claims. People check this out your selves and not go by what others have said.

my company just introduced this plan for us to sell to consumers and quite honestly, I dont trust it...If there are this many complaints on so many sites about them, there is obviously cause for concern. Luckily our company has other oprions for us to enroll people into. Not all Medical Savings Plans are scams, believe me. It is very confusing and scary and please check into all the details before you enroll...

I am an insurance agent and I have done research on Consumer Alliance USA. Consumer Alliance USA is an association that provides insured benefits to their members. The benefits are insured by 10 - 12 A and A+ rated insurance companies. I checked with the insurance commissioner for the state in which I reside, and all of the insurance companies are valid and reputable companies. The networks that Consumer Alliance USA bills through are also valid and reputable. I checked with several doctors offices and they will accept the insurance that Consumer Alliance USA provides. This is a good company and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for insurance that is affordable.

The main problem I have with this company is trying to get someone to talk to. Nothing is more frustrating than having to listen to music for thirty minutes or more. Also I have left numerous messages never to be retuned. I can't even get any satisfaction on the internet. Maybe someon has a suggestion for me. As of now I am very dissatisfied with this company.

I got this insurance and it paid hardly anything, I am stuck with numorous medical

bills, all of which were turned into a collection agency, I am paying but this hurt my

credit. Even when I called and cancelled they continued to take money from my

bank, I had to go to the bank and pay to have payment stopped to them.

They misrepresented themselves totally. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Don't be dupped like I was.
