Contract Termination issue
Alarm Capital Alliance - After doing business with them for 6 years, my alarm system stop working. I called them numerous times to come fix it, but they did not fix it. I cancellecd my contract with them via telephone and via register mail. I then got ATD security system in Dec 2009. Now I have a collection agency charging me for a contract that they say I have until 7/14/2012 with ACA. They are charging me $805.00. If I don't pay they said they will ruin my credit.
I am getting threatening calls now from the collection company at my home and place of work. I called the number above [protected] ext 8152 and left a message. Please have the collection agency stop calling me. The person threatening me is Mr. Mc Kenny from Rosenthal, Morgan, and Thomas, Inc. [protected].

Unethical billing
I have had security monitoring with this company on my house for the past 3 years. You pay for the entire year upfront on your annual due date. Mine was every August. We were moving out of our home in November 2009 when ACA called in September to remind me that I had not paid for our yearly service in August, therefore I was not being monitored. The credit card they had on file was expired therefore they could not automatically bill me. I told them I didn't need their services anymore because we were moving in a couple months or so. They said they could cover me and charge me for ONLY the time I was still in the home (approx. 3 months) and then revisit my situation for the rest of the year if the house was still unsold at the end of that time. They did NOT tell me that I was obligated to pay for the ENTIRE year regardless OR that I needed to cancel their services "in writing" prior to my annual due date. They didn't tell me they WOULDN'T charge me BUT, they didn't tell me that if I agreed to the 3 months, I was OBLIGATED to then pay the whole year. WHY would I agree to pay for 3 months, if I knew I had to pay for the rest of the year regardless? So they conned me into paying the first quarter so that they could THEN come after me if I didn't pay the rest of the year. When the quarter passed, they called me in January and told me that I was late in paying the balance for the rest of the year. I explained to them that I had only wanted coverage for the first quarter of my year. I had an understanding with the lady who had called me that this was ALL I was obligated to pay. Now they are trying to charge me the remaining balance for the year. I refused to pay it, so they turned me over to the collections department.
This company apparently has had MANY complaints against them, which I found online with similar stories. They lead you to believe certain things and do not conduct business in a clear way to the consumer.
I would warn everyone about avoiding doing business with them. Only agree to security monitoring services on a monthly basis.
Sincerely,
Patricia Horn

Patricia – This is an official response from My Alarm Center. We are sorry it took so long to get back to you, we have just recently put a system in place to address old and ongoing customer comments online.
Our apologies for any distress this situation may have caused you. At the time of your incident, our cancellation policy was to send a copy of the agreement to the customer for them to determine their date of termination. If we did not hear back from the customer, we presumed they wanted to continue monitoring services. As a result of the feedback from customers like yourself, we have made changes to our cancellation policy to alleviate any confusion.
Our goal is to exceed our customer's expectations. Towards that end, we do our best to listen and react to both positive and constructive feedback. Our friendly customer representatives are available Monday through Friday 8am-8pm EST to speak with you on any future questions or concerns you may have.
Contract renewal terms
As with the many other complaints, Alarm Capital Alliance purchased the service contract from a local company and then changed the contract terms with an automatic renewal without notice for a 3 year term. When attempting to cancel the service, I was only reminded of the terms of the contract and assured that if I did not complete my end (pay) they would enter the account into collections and report it to credit reporting agencies. Nice company, huh? Incidentally, they do business under many, many different names. If your security company has an address in PA, be very, very careful about doing business with them.

Alarm system monitoring
I signed a contract in 2004 with a company named Security of America for home security monitoring. My contract was sold to Alarm Capital Alliance company. The quality of service has rapidly declined. I wanted to cancel my service and was told my contract automatically renewed for a year since I did not provide a one month notice prior to the end of the previous contract. I am extremely disappointed with the service that I have received from Alarm Capital Alliance company. I have been waiting a week for the company to send a technician to come service a defective smoke detector. I have made numerous calls and have been given many promises. If you have a home security monitoring system and it is ever sold to Alarm Capital Alliance ( aka ACA Security Systems), save yourself some headaches and cancel ASAP.
I have an alarm company. We do not do long term contracts and customers and chose to terminate services with a phone call. I would always stay away from the Big national companies. You are only a number with them...
I also have major issues with ACA Security Systems. Only they got me with a 3-year automatically renewing contract. I was a few months into my third year and they would not honor my request to cancel. Now I have called with no success. Written letters that have been ignored. I sold my house and they continue to bill me for monitoring service after several attempts to close. The equipment was "won" and installed for free. The equipment was obsolete wireless system that caused more false alarms and nuciance than peace of mind.
I am not done yet, will continue to do battle with this terrible company.
Being forced to pay for an alarm system service I do not have!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY: My original alarm company sold to this company, the claimed I signed a contract with them and that I must continue the service even after the alarm system is inoperable. Do not have your payments taken out automatically from your account because it is hard to track down where to stop the payments. I never received a contract and is still waiting for them to send one. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General about their deceptive practices.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT THE OTHER ONE YOU GET!
Please file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as soon as possible

fearful, who can really help keeping these bully away from people no longer needing their services like other service you contract with. These companies never hold on to clip your balls. It's far cheaper to let the credit bureau deal with it or have it taken off after 7 years.
Jose - This is an official response from My Alarm Center. Please accept our apology for any distress you have encountered over your monitoring agreement. We have reviewed your file and it shows that we were not able to reach you by mail or by phone for a long period of time.
We are very sorry that you are still being charged for a service you are no longer using. It appears that as of late 2009, there was no record of a termination letter on file for your agreement. As a result, your account was sent to a third party agency to be managed. It appears they recently contacted you.
As a loyal customer for 6 years, we would like to offer you our assistance in reconciling your account by acting as a liaison with the agency to help prevent any negative reports on your credit. We understand that this process can be frustrating and we would like to extend a hand to help you through this.
Please call our Customer Care Supervisor at [protected] ext 8152 at your convenience to get this matter resolved. At My Alarm Center, your security is our priority. We appreciate your business and hope to serve you in the future.
I'm surprised to read that Alarm Capital Alliance didn't send someone out immediately to fix your problem. It makes sense that a system you were using consistently for six years with no issue would finally need maintenance (good track record really, it looks like you went six years with no big problems) but they should have sent someone right away. It could be that their rules and operations have changed since you last signed up. Have you contacted the highest power with the corporation, like a customer service manager, to calmly explain your situation? Make sure you can fax proof of when you cancelled your contract with them so you're not charged additional fees. If all else fails, try to get the Better Business Bureau (BBB) involved. You can file a complaint with bbb.org. Usually just the threat of contacting the BBB will snap the company into shape.
It looks me like they have a C+ Rating and they probably don't want it to drop lower! http://www.bbb.org/washington-dc-eastern-pa/business-reviews/security-control-equipment-and-system-monitors/my-alarm-center-llc-in-media-pa-173323763/
