American express caused me a lot of grief today. I can safely say that american express really hurt my business today. It has also hurt my relationship with my vendors. I have an american express card with "no pre-set spending limit". Now, I know that it is a trick. From $275, 000/ month, they have lowered my limit to $203, 000, then to $165, 000, then to almost nothing overnight. No notice, no nothing! They hide behind their terms and conditions that says, "we have the right to decrease your credit limit at any time". Their csr's are heartless. No sympathy on their part when I told them that by cutting my limit more than 50% with no warning whatsoever, that my cash flow is adversely impacted. This company is bad! I was very loyal to them for 7 years. I referred all my friends and business associates to them. Now that I need them, they say f — you! I asked for a 5-day extension to pay down the balance so I could use my card to pay off a vendor (Even if the payment was not even due another 30 days!). They said, "no! Pay $80, 000 and you can use $40, 000." I told them I will think about it. (I had no choice). The next day, I said, "fine, I will pay you the $80, 000 and make a $40, 000 charge." shockingly, they said, "no. Now, you have to pay $165, 000 to use the card". I told them that the payment is not even due until 30 days later and they want me to pay of $165, 000 in one hour? Where would I get the money from?" it would take me at least a week to collect that from my clients. They did not care. They said that is what it is. So, I told them that I will just use a company check to pay my $40, 000 bill and will not use the card. American express will not make another penny from me. I will also tell all my friends and business associates about this experience. American express need to remove the word american from its name. Change it to #, instead. I will now apply for a visa and with my excellent credit and $10 million/year in sales, I don't think that I will have any problem getting a high-limit card. Maybe, visa will be loyal like me!

I completely agree. They just did the same to me and my business yesterday. Snapped up a big payment and immediatly lowered my credit limit below that, resulting in vendors not getting paid. 20 years of being an amex member and never missing a payment or even being late on one.
Screw American Express. The are disloyal to the customers who made them who they are. We will never again accept that card at any of our franchises. I hope everyone else refuses to accept them as well.

It is not only businesses AMEX is doing this to. I had a credit line of over $30k with them. ALWAYS paid more than my minimum monthly, was never late. I currently carry a $10k balance with them, the only balance on ANY card I carry because I paid off my other two cards within the last 60 days.

Lo and behold, I get a call today that they are reducing my credit line to $10, 250, just barely what I owe. They say it is becuase I have a high debt ratio and delinquencies on my credit report. Neither is true. I have not increased my debt and I pulled my credit report and there is not a blemish on it.

Screw you is what they said to me, so I am saying it back. I will transfer my balance to a lower rate VISA card and let that AMEX sit there and clooect dust so a card cancellation won't affect my credit rating.

I will also try to influence everyone I know to stop doing business with this poor excuse for a company and drive them out of business.

I feel terrible for businesses who rely on this as a means of payment. We're heading in a bad direction in the country and I'm really hoping someone puts a stop to it soon.

I agree and feel for you.

American Express should be boycotted by ALL small businesses. They cut my credit lines despite on time payment consistently and 15 years of loyalty. Screw them. All small businesses should be aware that though AMEX has some perks, they will totally pull out the rug from you and it could be at any time. When you need Amex, they won't be there for you. They will totally screw you over when you need them. If you believe that your long term loyalty and clean payment history mean anything at all to American Express, you are sadly mistaken. American Express is the worst of the worst. I'm moving all my business away from these evil individuals. I highly recommend to all small business owners to stop using American Express. One day when you really need them, they will put you in a world of hurt.

Absolutely horrible; the current management has taken this company and destroyed (totally) a once great Amercian brand with their fear and resulting disloyalty to long-time customers during this economic crisis. SO many small businesses have been severely impacted by their immoral cuts to credit lines and credit limits, which taking BILLIONS in TARP money at the same time. And then, they have the nerve to run contests about support of small businesses? What hypocrites as well.

the only way Amex makes money is us using our cards. After having lowered my credit limit on one of my cards - i went to use the balance and they disapproved and lowered the credit available at that moment i went to charge. i had my husband out of town at a hotel and was trying to pay the bill. when i called i was put on hold for 30 minutes and then was told i would have to pay more then my credit request to raise my limit. Wow! Never once been late and pay over the amount needed.

Been with them since 1983 - never been late - put millions of dollars on Amex and that's how i got treated. Also, they asked me to pay off one of my cards in Sept and I did so it was obvious there was no inability to pay.

We need to find another company. Amex is done. i canceled my main cards (Platinum, etc) why would i pay for that service. so sad - they use to be good.

This last August (09) I received a letter from Amex letting me know that because of the tough economy and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and so on they were raising my APR. I complaint to no avail. So I will stop using my credit card and pay off my balance. Screw this company and their sorry excuses. What in the fuc{< do they think they are? Like everybody else is having a smashing time and just them are having problems.

American Express is hurting bad because Business and Also Consumers are realizing the company is dishonest, scam and ripoffs.

I'm having problems with American Express merchant.. they're allowing alot of fraudulent charges to go through. If i respond to a chargeback they will claim they never received my paperwork. I have been playing hard ball with these guys for 6 months i finally got fed up and took a huge hit on my business from the fraudulent charges.

OUR BUSINESS IS NO LONGER ACCEPTING AMERICAN EXPRESS AS A PAYMENT. THEY'RE LOOSING A LOT OF BUSINESS FROM US TOO.

AMEX has lowered my credit limit and raised my interest rate to a whopping 25.9% with no warning whatsoever. 7 Years, never a late or missed payment, we have decided to stop accepting AMEX and will pay off the card and switch to VISA.

I have a totally different statement. I am the vendor in this case and I am owed by American Express for providing services to them.

Their card was not accepted by Paypal for the services. So they treated me as if I owed them. The invoice was due on day of service as contracted. It is now 19 days and counting and they have not paid me and they will not respond to my requests for my monies.

I have looked everywhere on how to get to somebody in accounting - the department that ordered the craft services is not responding at all. The young lady who requested the catering services has written me a nasty note on I will wait until they get it to me.

I have never had this problem with a production company before.

Anyone have any suggestions how I get to them or who to get to. I have tried everything I know.

Getting nowhere. Will NEVER do anything for them again.

I kept my end of the contract and they ate the food and received excellent service. They will not reply to any communication via phone or email.

By the way, I am in Georgia and service was provided here when they came down for the shoot.

Received an harassing earlier Sunday morning phone call. They could have called during normal business hours on first attempt as a friendly reminder. BUT AM EX choose to use SUNDAY to intimidate me. I stated I was in the hospital and stated I would call back later but the rep would not let me go I had to hang up on him. Transfer my balance and openly boycotting AM EX please help me in doing the same
