Change of Heart
For many years, Appleseeds has been one of my favorite shopping experiences. That took a turn with a return. I paid full price for two items and received less than full price on my return of those items.
Recommendation: Make positive sure of any item you purchase as your return will be significantly lower than the price you paid!
Good quality clothes at a reasonable price
The 4 sweaters I ordered are soft and good quality. I had to cancel an item before it shipped and the customer service rep was helpful and kind.
Bad reviews
Have read a lot of bad reviews re sizing, fit, customer service. I ordered two long sleeve T-shirts on 5/6/2020 and received them 5/12/20. Perfect size. I will be ordering from this company again. Just in case readers think I have an interest in the company, I DO NOT.
So happy with my purchase and fast delivery
Normally I don't do reviews but I ordered a coat before I read the reviews. There were so many bad reviews I was very nervous. If I would have read them first I would have never ordered my coat. I am so glad I didn't because I LOVE MY COAT! I received it 3 days after I ordered it. Fit perfectly. Very classy look! So happy I didn't read the bad reviews first. My husband said don't worry usually only people who are not satisfied write reviews so I'm very satisfied and I wanted everyone to know.
Great Clothes, Great Service
I have hundreds of Applseeds' purchases in my closet--shirts, pants, skirts, sweaters, Blazers--love them all and keep ordering more. I have the Spindrift sweaters in just about every color. I am puzzled by all the negative reviews. I listen to all the pitches and then politely decline all offers. Always take advantage of free shipping and any 30% off offers. They will always offer to give you 15% off on a third item so I keep that as my least favorite and order my top 2 favorites so I get those for sure and the third as backup. The fits are always perfect and I love the Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans! I've had to purchase thin closet hangers as so many items stuffed in my closets. Barbara B.
I have been shopping at Appleseeds & Tog Shop for many
I have been shopping at Appleseeds & Tog Shop for many many years and have always been pleased with the quality of the clothes and the professionalism & courtesy of the phone staff. I seldom return anything, but my returns have all been completed to my satisfaction.
I get all my basics from Appleseeds... every year.
I love the fact that all the colors are coordinated so I can put together a complete wardrobe that works together... try doing that at Macy's!
Some of the criticisms below seem to arise from not reading the specifications correctly or demanding too much from a business situation they have no control over, like the delivery companies. Mail order is not suitable for last minute emergency purchases. They do their best, but customers must be organized too.
I like the clothing at Appleseeds a lot but their returns/cu
I like the clothing at Appleseeds a lot but their returns/customer service are terrible. Twice I have been told that they did not receive a return that I sent and I have been out that money. Today I called to ask about a return I sent. I gave them my acct. # and home address but did not want to give the last 4 digits of my social security number. The agent (Osmar) said I should since he had the entire number in front of him! What does a customer service rep have access to my soc. Sec. Number? When I asked to speak to his supervisor he said that he didn't know how long that would take--implying he'd put me on hold for a long time. 31 minutes later, I hung up. Score one for Osmar. I've had numerous billing problems that take hours to straighten out. I'm convinced they are not an accident. Dealing with them is like dealing with a loan shark--no thank you!
Love the VIP program
I joined the VIP program about a year ago and I love it! I hardly ever bother writing reviews, but I was very surprised to see that some people were dissatisfied with their experience. I have spent about $165 for membership fees and have earned about a thousand dollars in gift cards. I don't even bother to shop in malls anymore. I have bought several jackets, sweaters, tops, dresses and skirts. Most everything was bought with my gift cards. Typically, I buy things that are on sale to begin with. Then I get a 10% discount and rebates back for shipping costs. A small proportion of the items I have ordered have either not fit or didn't appeal to me when I tried them on. I sent them back, got my shipping refunded by filling out an online rebate form (simple) and received a letter with a rebate code that I used just like a gift card. I highly recommend using this program and hope they never stop providing it. I usually end up canceling these "trial period" offers, so I was expecting to only let it run one month-then cancel it. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I benefitted by joining!

Return shipping a rip off even for defective item
First time ordering from this company in many years. Although it took quite some time to received my order (compared to J Jill, Lands End, Penney's, Amazon, and other places where I shop online), I was pleased with 4 out of the 6 sleeveless tops I received. On two of the tops (same styles as the ones I kept), one armhole was larger than the other - exposing much more skin below my arm and gapping in the back. I planned to return the shirts and request a replacement. I e-mailed customer service stating that I should not have to pay $9.99 for return shipping since the products were defective. I received a reply stating that THE COMPANY would determine if the product was indeed defective and, IF SO, would refund the shipping cost once that determination was made. Although it is very obvious (even when the shirt is not on me) that the armholes are sewn differently, I am sure (based on other reviews that I have read since) that the shirts would not be deemed defective by the company. Not feeling up to arguing and fighting over what is "defective" as it sounds like this is a very difficult company to deal with. Posted a Facebook review. No reply. Posted directly on their FB site and finally heard from a customer service rep, first by FB message and later by phone offering to waive return shipping but stating that "there are exceptions for defective merchandise." Also stated that the statements in the original e-mail were a result of "new help recently hired at peak season." Huh? Um - train them, supervise them... But it appears from other reviews, that this company will try to get away with whatever they can and customer service is a low priority. It is also appalling to read how long it takes for people to receive refunds for the returned items, let alone a shipping refund. I was eventually offered a waiver of return shipping charges, but do not feel that this is a company I can trust or care to do business with. Will donate one top (probably wearable under a blouse or sweater but not for me), keep the other for expensive PJ top. Will not do business with this company again.
Appleseed's Return Policy is Unfair to Elderly Customers on a Limited Income
My Mom, who is 93 years old and lives in a long term care facility, recently ordered some clothes from Appleseed's. She is on Medicare and has a very limited income, so she was careful to only order items that she thought would fit her well. Unfortunately, some of the items didn't fit her properly, so she decided to return them. However, she was shocked to find out that she would be charged $9.99 for each individual item that she returned. This was a huge blow to her already limited budget.
To make matters worse, my Mom had also ordered some items that were backordered. At her age, she sometimes forgets what she has ordered, so when these items arrived, she didn't even remember ordering them. But once again, she was told that she would have to pay the $9.99 return fee for each item. This was incredibly frustrating for her, and she felt like she was being taken advantage of.
In the end, my Mom ended up returning several items and was charged over $200 in return fees. This was a huge amount of money for her, and she felt like Appleseed's was preying on her because of her age and limited income. When she called to try and explain the situation, she was met with rude and uncaring customer service representatives who didn't seem to care about her situation at all.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed with Appleseed's and the way they treated my Mom. They should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of elderly people with dementia and other health issues. I hope that the owner of this company has an elderly parent who experiences the same kind of treatment, so they can understand how hurtful and unfair it is. In my opinion, Appleseed's is the most awful company I have ever dealt with, and I would never recommend them to anyone.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience with Appleseed's
I recently bought two items from Appleseed's and had a bit of a problem with one of them. I ordered a funnel neck sweater that was described as "white," but when I received it, it was clearly "ivory." I called Customer Service to see if I could return it and was told that I wouldn't have to pay for the return shipping because it was "not as described." They gave me a code to use and I followed their instructions exactly.
However, when I received my credit, I noticed that they had charged me for the return shipping. I thought it was a mistake, but when I called Customer Service again, they told me that I wouldn't be reimbursed for the return shipping because the returns department had deemed that it was the color I ordered. I was pretty upset about this and asked to speak to the manager.
The Customer Service Manager, Mrs. Baker, told me the same thing - that I wouldn't be reimbursed for the return shipping. She said that if I had ordered white and received ivory, it was my own fault. I couldn't believe it! I wish I had read their reviews before ordering from them. I definitely won't be ordering from Appleseed's again and I'm even thinking about writing a letter to their headquarters to let them know how unhappy I am.
Overall, I was disappointed with my experience with Appleseed's. The fact that they wouldn't stand behind their product description and make things right for their customers was really frustrating. I hope they take steps to improve their customer service in the future.

Beware of Appleseed's VIP Plus Scam: A Warning for Online Shoppers
Ladies, listen up! I had a bit of a mishap with Appleseed's last April. They charged me $1.99 for April and then every month after that, they charged my credit card $14.97. I don't even remember placing an order in March or April, but apparently, when you order online, you automatically get signed up for VIP Plus. I think I may have filled out the form and then changed my mind about the order when I saw how much the tax and shipping would be. Who in their right mind would pay $180 a year just to shop from a catalog?
I have to admit, I wasn't keeping a close eye on my credit card bill, which was my bad. I travel a lot, so I don't always have time to check every little charge. When I called Appleseed's to put a stop to this madness, the lady I spoke to was very matter-of-fact and slick. When I demanded my money back, she only offered to refund the last 4 months. So they stole $181.63 from me and are only giving me back $59.88. It's clear they know what they're doing and are probably making a fortune off this little scam.
It's not just Appleseed's, either. Beachbody does the same thing, and I'm sure there are others out there. It's a sad world we live in when companies can get away with this kind of fraud. Be careful out there, ladies!
Frustrating Experience with Appleseed's: Size Mix-Up and Long Delays
I gotta say, I had a pretty frustrating experience with Appleseed's. I ordered a jacket and pants back in March, and I thought I ordered a size 14, but when I got the confirmation email, it said size 16. I called them up right away to fix it, but they told me it was already shipped...even though it didn't actually ship until 3 days later. They said I could return it and get the right size, but then I got an email two months later saying the pants were on back-order and wouldn't be available until the end of July. Like, seriously? I ordered a winter outfit in March, I don't want it in the middle of summer.
And the thing is, this isn't the first time this has happened. Last year, I had a similar issue and had to report it to the Better Business Bureau to get it resolved. It's just ridiculous that it takes them so long to address these issues. I've ordered from over a hundred different online stores, and this is the only one where I've had a problem with the size and it's taken months to fix.
Honestly, I don't think I'll be doing business with Appleseed's again. They clearly have some major problems with their customer service and inventory management. It's just not worth the hassle.
Avoid Appleseed's: Terrible Customer Service, Deceptive Stock, and Delayed Refunds
Appleseed's is a company that I would not recommend to anyone. Their customer service is terrible. They are not helpful when you call and they take forever to respond to emails. It seems like they don't care about their customers at all. I had a terrible experience with them. I ordered something and it took forever to arrive. When it finally did, I was so annoyed with them that I decided to return everything. I don't want to give them any of my money ever again.
The worst part is that they lie about their stock. They will tell you that something is in stock when it's not. And if you try to cancel your order because it's going to take too long to ship, they won't let you. They will tell you that it's already pink slipped to ship, even if it's not. And when you call back to check on your order, they will tell you that it's going to ship the next day. It's so frustrating dealing with these nitwits.
And if you do decide to return something, they will keep your money for two billing cycles. That means you either have to pay for it all or pay interest while you wait for them to credit your account. I'm paying it off because I don't think they will ever credit my account. It's just not worth the hassle.
In conclusion, I would advise everyone to avoid Appleseed's. They are deceptive, uncommunicative, and unhelpful. They don't care about their customers and they don't care that they don't care. Save yourself the aggravation and shop somewhere else.
Beware of Appleseeds Rewards Charge - Scam or Legit?
I gotta say, I was pretty disappointed when I saw a charge on my credit card bill from Appleseeds for $14.95. Like, what the heck is an "Appleseeds Reward" and why am I being charged for it? I've only ordered from them twice and returned both items because they were too big, so I definitely didn't sign up for any subscription service.
I tried calling them up, but of course, no one's there on the weekend. So I called my credit card company to dispute the charge, but they told me I can't dispute these kinds of charges. Apparently, it's legal under some new law or something. Ugh.
Anyway, I'm gonna try to get this sorted out on Monday. Gonna call up Appleseeds through my credit card company and demand they cancel the charge. And if that doesn't work, I'm gonna file a complaint with my state's Attorney General's Office. Ain't nobody gonna scam me out of my hard-earned money!
Disappointing Experience with Appleseed's: Late Delivery, Refund Hassles, and Return Fees
I gotta say, I'm not too happy with Appleseed's. I ordered a couple of gifts for Christmas and was tracking them on UPS. But then, a week before Christmas, I saw that they weren't leaving UPS. So, I called Appleseed's to see what was up. They told me that it wouldn't be considered "lost" until 8 business days had passed, which was the Friday before Christmas. But guess what? The package still hadn't arrived by then. So, I called them again after Christmas to cancel the order. But then they told me I had to wait 30 days because the order might still come. I mean, come on! It was a Christmas gift! But they didn't seem to care. I asked to speak to a manager, but even she wouldn't budge. So, I had to track when the 30 days was up and tell them that the package still hadn't come before they would refund my money. Finally, the package arrived the Friday after Christmas. But when I went to return it, I saw that they charge a $9.99 return fee. I called them up to try and get it waived, but the customer service person (if you can even call them that) wouldn't listen to me. After arguing with them for 5 minutes, they said they would review "company policy" when the package was returned and decide if they would waive the fee. I'm not holding my breath though.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience at Appleseed's: Defective Sweater and Unhelpful Support
I've been shopping at Appleseed's for a long time, like 15 years. I always had good experiences with their customer service and the clothes they sell. But something happened recently that made me change my mind. My mom ordered a sweater for me for my birthday, which was on Feb. 29. She ordered it on Jan. 20th, and the person on the phone said it would be here on time. But it didn't come until March 6th. When I finally got it, I found out that the zipper was put on backwards. I was so disappointed, and I emailed customer service to ask for a prepaid label to return it. They said I could use the label that came with the package, but they would take out the fee from my refund or exchange. I wasn't happy with that, so I called customer service to complain. I told them that since the sweater was defective, I wanted a prepaid return label. But they didn't seem to care that the sweater was made wrong. It was really frustrating.
I found out later that Appleseed's is owned by Blair, which explains a lot. I guess that's why the quality and customer service has gone downhill. I wouldn't recommend shopping here. You can find the same stuff at Christopher and Banks, and their customer service is way better. Plus, the people who work there are locals, which is always nice.
Disappointing Experience with Appleseeds: Delayed Shipping and Wrong Address Delivery
I gotta say, I'm not too thrilled with my experience with Appleseeds. I thought I was doing a good thing by ordering a gift for my Aunt and having it gift wrapped and delivered to her house. But when I got the confirmation email, I noticed that the shipping address was the same as my billing address. I called up customer service and asked if they could redirect it to the correct address, but they told me it was already on the truck and there was nothing they could do. I was pretty frustrated, but I figured at least it would arrive quickly.
Well, it didn't. I paid for expedited 3 day shipping, but by Thursday of that week (I had placed the order the previous Saturday), I still hadn't received anything. So I called up customer service again to find out what was going on. The person I spoke to told me that one box would arrive on Monday and the other on Tuesday, but couldn't explain why there was a delay despite the shipping I had paid for. It was really frustrating, especially since I had no idea what was going on.
They did offer to refund the shipping charges, but at this point I'm just waiting around for a week for my purchase to be delivered to the wrong address. It's really shady and I don't think I'll be ordering from them again. I'd rather pay a little more for a company that can actually deliver on their promises.
Poor Return Service and Delayed Refunds from Appleseed's Clothing Company
This company, Appleseed's, is owned by Blair Inc, which also owns TOG Shop and a few other clothing companies. I've had some experience with these clothing companies, and I have to say, their return service is pretty poor. It can take up to two months to get a refund, which is a lot longer than most companies take to acknowledge a return and issue a refund (usually around 5-7 days). They don't tell you about this upfront, either, which is frustrating.
I think Blair Inc might be encouraging their companies to hold onto customer money to make interest on it. It seems like they're keeping your money for longer than they need to, even after they've received the returned items. When I made my order, I didn't know about the connection between Appleseed's, TOG Shop, and Blair Inc. I sent my return items via USPS and got delivery confirmation on 10/5/10. Appleseed's acknowledged that they had received the items and were crediting my refund as of 10/14/10.
However, as of 10/25/10, I still hadn't received my refund, even after emailing and calling twice. It wasn't until I connected with the Better Business Bureau that I got word that they had given me credit on 10/26/10. I called my financial institution to check, but there was no pending credit from this company. As of 10/27/10 at 7:00PM, Appleseed's still had $230.93 of my money.
Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with Appleseed's and any company connected with Blair Inc. I won't be shopping with them again.
The seller fooled me and didn't deliver order
I placed order on the website www.appleseeds.com 2 months ago, but I still haven’t received my order. I paid for the order with Visa card and got confirmation info, where the seller told me that the delivery would take about 10-30 days, but they failed to deliver it. I heard only some fake promises, but nothing was changed. They are liars and scammers, and I want to find other deceived customers, who lost money. Please we need to stop this company and return our money. Post your comments.
Received a Florentina matelasse coverlet today. Has two rips or cuts in it. Rather than go through the hassle of returning it and possibly getting another defective coverlet, I simply mended it. So now I have a new, 80 dollar bedspread with two darned areas. Won't order from them again.
Ordered twice online and had HORRIBLE experiences in both cases
Ordered twice online and had HORRIBLE experiences in both cases. Customer Service is a joke-they could not care less. They tell you things are IN STOCK and then they back order one item, so you pay shipping twice. The photos appear much better than the actual quality of the clothing. If you email to request someone in Customer Service-you will receive a "canned response", often one that has nothing to do with your issue. If you call, you will be put on eternal hold. Once - shame on them, twice, shame on me. I have learned my lesson and will share this with everyone I can.
This really is a company for octogenarians
I placed an order on Oct. 1. Apparently they had a system upgrade which caused them to hand write all orders. As of Oct. 5 the item still has not shipped. It might ship by Oct 8, a week after I placed the order. Apparently they mean it takes us 5-8 days to get your order out of our facility.
This item is for my 85 year old mother, who normally uses catalogs. This really is a company for octogenarians.
Will never shop from Appleseeds again
Ordered an item and found shipping costs excessive, especially because several catalogs were included in the package which added to the weight. An insert in the same package said that I could get a $15.00 refund on shipping. I looked at it online, realized that it was selling some service that I didn't want and didn't click any further. Due to a subsequent family tragedy, I didn't monitor my next few credit cards carefully so I didn't realize that I was being charged $14.95 a month for that same service. Will never shop from Appleseeds again. Amazed and disgusted. Thought it was a fine old ethical New England company.
Don't buy clothing from this site if you live in MA
I was about to order a couple of clothing items (both under $175), but then I noticed that they had added MA sales tax, even though clothing items under $175 are exempt. I canceled my order, and sent an email to customer service about this error. Got a reply two days later saying it was because they have stores in MA, completely ignoring the clothing exemption issue. Called Customer Service and got a run-around. Since they have two stores in MA, it's difficult to believe they don't know about the clothing exemption, so this smells like fraud. Don't buy clothing from this site if you live in MA.
I will not shop here again and will continue to try get a refund
Be careful. When you place an order online, you will be charged a monthly fee of $14.95 a month unbeknownst to you. This is recurring and goes on until it is discovered. Then it is almost impossible to cancel. I was disconnected from the [protected] number several times in a row. When I called customer service, the woman hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor after she was not helpful. I had to change my credit card number and order a new Visa Card in order to stop this charge. I will not shop here again and will continue to try get a refund.
Appleseeds rewards is a scam and fraud. Ordered online and was charged with $14.95 to my credit card for a phony rewards program. Tried to cancel this but cannot . Will never buy from Appleseeds again. This is the same company as the Darmer and Drapers "rewards" program which also automatically charge the credit card used. How did they get my credit card number to charge these fees against? It seems that these companies (Appleseeds, Darmer and Draper etc) are dealing in credit card fraud. DONT BUY FROM THESE COMPANIES. I am contacting my attorney general in New Hampshire and
This company has a major problem and I will not doing business with them again
In March I ordered a jacket and matching slacks. When I placed the order I thought I ordered a size 14 but on the confirmation e-mail it said a size 16. I called them right away and asked them to change the order to a 14. They told me this could not be done because the order had already been shipped...which it was not shipped until 3 days later. They told me I could return the order and the correct size would be sent. Two months later I received an e-mail telling the pants are on back-order and would not be available until the end of July. There is no way I want a summer outfit I ordered in March at the end of July. I probably would just chalk it up to experience if the same thing had not happened last year. After reporting the issue last year to the Better Business Bureau it was finally resolved but it took some time. This company has a major problem and I will not doing business with them again. I have placed over a hundred orders online and I find it strange this is the only company I make a size mistake when placing a order. Then it takes them a number of months to address the issue.
My elderly mother was given the runaround and harassed by this company.
My elderly mother was given the runaround and harassed by this company. After paying for a $250-plus piece of clothing and some late charges because of unfortunate timing with a lost credit card she came to an agreement on the phone with Appleseed's customer service. She paid the remaining interest charges and they were going to waive an additional $25 charge. A few days after that agreement they wrote a letter reneging on the arrangement and continued to send her increasingly larger monthly billings. The letter came yesterday that they were now going to be charging 29% until she paid it off. We have been unable to talk to a supervisor to explain the situation (put on hold and the call never picked up). She has paid for the merchandise plus some interest charges, which most companies would waive for a good customer with a good explanation, and made it impossible to communicate with anybody who could use their brain to bring the situation to a rational conclusion. To add insult to injury they harassed a 90 year old women with multiple calls on one day to the point where she can't eat or sleep for fear someone is going to come to her door demanding payment.
Bottom line: DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY. There are lots of good companies making an honest living that deserve your business... this is not one of them.
You would never guess from their attractive catalogs that this company is unethical
You would never guess from their attractive catalogs that this company is unethical. I have, however, just found on my credit card bill, a charge for "Appleseeds Reward" in the amount of $14.95. The Reference Number is 6972, which -- according to my credit card company -- indicates some kind of "subscription."
I have ordered from this company twice (and returned both items because they were oversized), but I certainly never "subscribed" to any service of theirs.
I tried to telephone Appleseeds, but there is no one there on the weekend, and today is Saturday.
I then tried to place this charge in "Dispute" with my credit card company, so that I could go ahead and pay the balance of my credit card bill. But it turns out that these phony "subscription" charges cannot be placed in Dispute. And guess what -- this is legal (so I was told by my credit card company) under the recently passed Federal Credit and Billing Act.
On Monday I am going to contact Appleseeds through my credit card company dispute department and try to get A to cancel the charge. I am also going to file charges for fraud against Appleseeds with my State (VT) Attorney General's Office.
After calling their corporate offices to get their physical address for the attorney general complaint, they sent a full refund. That said, the AG said they could do nothing about it and that under the new "consumer protection" banking rules that went into effect a couple of years ago the credit card company can bill even on closed account numbers if it is a recurring charge. What lobbyists got that done we will never know but what a scam
They have 22 million names of elders in a database. They bill elders $14.95 per month without authorization. They claim this is a "rewards program". The "rewards program" website is a list of dead links.
My 92 year old mother placed an order 4 years ago. As she is now incapacitated, I was reviewing her accounts and came across this charge for 14.95. For 4 years they have been billing her and she did not know it - that is over $700! Called customer service and they agreed to credit ONE MONTH. I told them i was calling the attorney general, which I will, and they said I would have to talk to a supervisor, but they were all busy. Waiting for call back now, but what a SCAM! I hope nobody buys anything from these CROOKS!
I've found the same charge on my credit card bill and went to the website for Appleseed's to find out how to discontinue the subscription (I don't remember even subscribing). Nothing. I've sent communication via their online site to request Appleseed's to discontinue the "subscription." It will be interesting to see how they respond and will make all the difference as to if I continue to shop online with Appleseed's.
I would be interested in finding out how your complaint was resolved.
Appleseeds issued my a credit card that I never applied for. I've tried the customer service number on the credit card and waited forever 3 times.! I want to cancel the card and there seems no way to get through. I have not activated the card. Do I have an option of just cutting it up and throwing away? Or do I need it as evidence if anyone uses it to charge items to this account they created in my name?
