If I could give less than one, I would!
If I could give less than one, I would! Not sure why my company, which is a large and reputable one, chose them... maybe they were the cheapest. First, only small eyewear providers in Atlanta accept them (which are always more expensive). Their website has a page for my company's coverage. It clearly stated under "out of network" - up to $40 for progressive. I had 2 prescriptions with progressive, so I was expecting the $80... which doesn't even make a small dent in what the progressives cost me, but I was still looking forward to getting that reimbursed... I have been denied twice even though I sent them a printout of coverage from their own website! I will be cancelling this insurance option on the next open enrollment and letting my employer know what a rip and what a laugh this so-called insurance is. I will purchase my own! Or just go through Costco, they are much more professional and have more options.
My interactions with Avesis have been infuriating
My interactions with Avesis have been infuriating. They deserve zero stars. There are almost no providers in my area who are in-network, and they are all low-quality with terrible reviews. So I went to my normal provider who is out of network and got an itemized receipt so I could submit a claim for reimbursement. When I tried to figure out how to submit the claim, I just hit wall after wall. The website is a nightmare to navigate and just keeps looping you back to the main page again and again. I ended up calling customer service, since the only option on the reimbursement form is to mail it, and there are real risks to going to a print shop and then the post office to physically mail something right now. When I called customer service, the outgoing message when you answer states that all claims should be submitted online due to Covid. I thought, great! But I couldn't figure out how to do that on the website, so I got to a customer service representative. He told me the only option was to physically mail it. I requested to send it by email because we are in the middle of a global pandemic. He put me on hold for 30 minutes then hung up on me. When I called back, another representative and then a supervisor told me that I would have to mail the forms and there are no options for any other submissions, even though their own customer service line says claims should be submitted online. This company is a joke. The website is barely functioning and customer service is basically non-existent. This is 2020. The only reason not to allow online submissions is to deter people from submitting claims. I wish I had any other options for vision insurance.

I sent a Avesis Out-of-Network Claim Form for prescription reading glasses I bought on 11/20
I sent a Avesis Out-of-Network Claim Form for prescription reading glasses I bought on 11/20. It's been a while and I haven't heard anything. I also sent an email via their contact email on their website and haven't heard back.
This company's website is USELESS!
This company's website is USELESS! I have had this insurance for over a year. I am trying to log onto the website so that I can find a provider to use my benefits, yet I cannot log on. I attempt to recover my password and successfully changed it 3 times and I STILL cannot lot onto my account. This is completely unacceptable as I PAY for this benefits and have been paying for them for over a year, yet I can't have access to the website?
This company's website is useless! I've had this insurance for over a year. I'm tryin' to log onto the website so I can find a provider to use my benefits, but I can't log on. This is totally unacceptable 'cause I PAY for these benefits and have been payin' for 'em for over a year, yet I can't access the website?
My daughter, 16, and I are facing financial challenges
My daughter, who is 16, and I are facing financial challenges. I'm on unemployment and making $300 a week. My daughter has overcrowding in her bottom teeth, which causes chronic headaches. Her top teeth are also out of alignment, resulting in an overbite. If anyone looked in my daughter's mouth, they could see that this is not for cosmetic purposes, but to fix overcrowding and straighten her teeth in order to help with her chronic headaches. Avesis denied her orthodontics claim, stating that she scored a 21 out of 25. I believe they are denying the claim because they don't want to pay for her braces. This isn't fair, and I need someone to help me fight for what is right.

I used my 2021 eye insurance benefits on Dec 25 & ordered eye glasses, paid in full on Dec
I used my 2021 eye insurance benefits on Dec 25 & ordered eye glasses, paid in full on Dec. 30th, 2021. Avesis sent my eye glass order to their internal eye glass lab to make them, however when they did this they used Jan. 3rd 2022 date. So in March 2022 when i tried to purchase contact lenses with my 2022 eye benefit i was told i 'already used my benefit for the year', because the lab technician put Jan. 3rd 2022 as date of services, not Dec. 30th 2021. I have called and talked with Avesis provider relations specialist 15 times in a month to get this resolved and they continue to tell me its being worked on. One person told me they just need to fix the date, however its been a month and not fixed. My job is ending in a couple weeks therefore i will no longer have any eye coverage. I told them this needs to be resolved asap but they blow me off.
My dentist recommended four root canals and a partial jaw operation, but Avesis denied it
My dentist recommended four root canals and a partial jaw operation, but Avesis denied it. The dentist doesn't think removing the teeth is a good idea because it could lead to more health problems and broken teeth. I asked if I should get the teeth extracted, but the dentist said it's not the recommended treatment since they are primary molars. I have fibromyalgia, a condition that makes my nerves very sensitive to pain. Both my doctor and dentist sent a form explaining my health issues and how not having the surgery would cause more pain, abscesses, and worsen my other health problems. However, Avesis still denied me. It's ridiculous and seems like a scam for Avesis to try to make me get my teeth removed when the doctor doesn't recommend it. They need more oversight. I experience daily pain, which will only get worse until the dentist finally recommends removal, which isn't the case right now.
I got Avesis Vision Plan from work
I got Avesis Vision Plan from work. Never heard of them but wanted a provider who takes it. I wear glasses and do eye exams yearly. This time, I wanted prescription sunglasses. Found a provider in my city, did the whole process, copays, and paid extra for the sunglasses. Got what I needed, seemed fine. A year later, I wanted my prescription for online glasses. Went back to the eye doctor, she said AVESIS denied my claim for no reason. Took 6 months to get paid for my May visit, but not the full amount, 'cause it was late. I had to pay half 'cause the doctor says I'm responsible if insurance doesn't pay. Can't get them to reimburse me now. Gonna switch to VSP, they're way better.
My vision coverage is through Avesis insurance
My vision coverage is through Avesis insurance. I call Avesis for businesses that participate. I call them many times, but the numbers and names they give me are wrong. The doctors don't work there or I never heard of them, and they don't accept Avesis insurance. When I call Avesis, I have to wait a long time and they only give me one referral per call. It's slow and I ask for more referrals. It's hard for me because I'm not healthy, and it takes hours. In 2019, I couldn't find any providers. I want to know if Avesis has any businesses in Maryland that offer vision exams, lenses, and frames. If not, why do they say they do? I read bad reviews from customers and providers of Avesis vision. They only have 1 out of 5 ratings. People only get responses after complaining to ComplaintsBoard.com. I don't expect much and I'm scared to use Avesis services if I find a provider. Online, Avesis says they have been in the vision benefits industry since 1978 and have plans that are easy to use and cost-effective.
I got Vision Care Benefits from Avesis Vision
I got Vision Care Benefits from Avesis Vision. Here's what happened: I signed up on their website and found a local provider called Pearle Vision. I went there, but they couldn't access my benefits because the Avesis Provider Portal was down. So, I tried going to Eyeglass World, another provider listed on the website. But, again, their Avesis Provider Portal was down too. The provider suggested that I pay full price and then submit a claim for reimbursement. I did that, and it was relatively easy to submit the claim through the website form. However, when I called Avesis customer service to check on it, they said I would only be reimbursed for half of what I should get because the claim wasn't submitted directly by the provider. They told me to cancel the claim so the provider could submit it, and they asked me to wait a week for the process. After a week, I went back to the provider, but they couldn't process it because the Avesis Portal showed that the benefits had already been claimed. I checked the Avesis Patient Portal, and it said the claim had been denied. At this point, I returned the eyeglasses. A month later, I received a check from Avesis. I called their customer service, and the representative told me to send the check back by regular mail. I explained that I couldn't do that because I had already shredded the physical check, and the mail service near me was limited. It's also 2022, so I believe they should be able to make changes or void a check if they can accept claims online. In short, even after multiple phone calls, they refuse to cancel the check and revise the claim, even though I returned the merchandise and destroyed the check.
On 1/4, I had my eye check-up and my provider contacted my insurance company Avesis Vision for permission for my contact lenses
On 1/4, I had my eye check-up and my provider contacted my insurance company Avesis Vision for permission for my contact lenses. I have Keratoconus and need contacts for medical reasons. On April 10, they said my claim was denied because it was submitted too late for retro authorization. From January to April, there was confusion between Avesis and my provider about the paperwork needed for review. I talked to my provider many times asking them to send the information. They emailed me multiple copies of faxes they sent to Avesis with my records. I contacted Avesis almost every week to check on my approval. Their customer service wasn't very helpful. The reference numbers they gave me couldn't be found in the system. Finally, I spoke to a rep named Anna C. who seemed helpful. She followed up on the case, got the required info, and said she had everything to process my file. I checked with her again a week later and found out she still needed more information and would contact the provider. I followed up with my provider about the missing info. They said they got an email from Anna but she didn't say what she needed. Also, because of COVID-19, their office hours and staff were changed. Luckily, Anna told me over the phone what she needed and I told my provider. A week later, on April 2, Anna messaged me saying she finally had all the info to process my file. On April 10, they said I had to appeal because it took too long to file. So now, in April, I'm still wearing the same contacts I had in January. This is the second year in a row I've had this problem with Avesis.
