In April last year my husband needed to have all of his remaining teeth removed, decay etcetera.

We had an HMO product Delta Dental plus a PPO product through Aetna to use for this procedure.

The cost quoted was to include sedation for the procedure.

For starters this did not happen. He endured the process with lidocaine and nitrous oxide. When I came to pick him up he came out holding a large amount of gauze to his moth and was bleeding through that. We were given extra gauze for the trip home. The same day dentures given to him had such a sharp edge it kept cutting into his gums. The bleeding went on for some time. Our call was brushed off with if continues go to ER.

Jump ahead to the day for impressions for dentures. They didn’t fit. This process was repeated 6 times with the same results. Not only that, the dentist that did the extractions some of them with a chisel and hammer somehow affected his gag reflex. He was advised to have a CT scan then come back for evaluation We did that. When the he brought CT scan flash drive to the office the staff couldn’t make it work. Don’t you just love competent people.

He has to be very careful what he eats {still no dentures by the way). Mashed potatoes can trip this reflex.

At his recent visit in October 2023 for follow up on this gag issue and see if denture were still an option the provider advised him “You will never be able to have dentures. Where did you have the surgery done? Your gums were never prepared to wear dentures they are too full of holes and to uneven “

So here’s the deal, we were quoted 10,000 dollars over and above what the insurance covered. Now I have a husband that can’t eat solid foods can’t wear dentures has lost 75 pounds and I want my 10,000back! We are a senior couple can ill afford this payment through the Care Credit Co. we were hooked up with.

I’m sure the Dental Board would be interested in this fiasco. From other comments online there are many other complaints. Not all as extreme as this one, but enough to make one think twice before using your providers.
