I received a letter from the management on March 7th 2024 at Imperial Pointe Townhomes statinf that my rent for march was delinquent and as a result I received a late fee.
I paid my rent on time on the first of the month, as I do every month, as a paper check that I slide under the front office door after hours.
Until very recently, this has been the only way I have been able to make my rent payments, due to online payments no longer being an option for almost 2 years
Also, due to the fact that I work in a neighboring city Monday thru Friday 8 to 5 pm It was agreed upon with management that I could make my rent payments via a check slid under the front office door. As a result, I have been making my payments in this exact manner for over a year with no issue.
Somehow, my rent check was lost after I delivered it to the office after hours at the beginning of march. It wasn't a bid deal to me, but when I got notice that my check was not received on March 7th (or so) I immediately called the front office and left a voice mail, informing them that the check was delivered as per usual and to please look around for it, to which i received no response.
Today (March 12) I called back again to check in to see if they found my check and the representative i spoke with was extremely rude to me about how they didn't have it and that I will have to pay the late fee.
This reaction took me by complete surprise, and I told her she was being very rude and that as a single, working mother, who has never been late on rent since I started living here over 3 years ago I should not be charged the extra $30 fee for a mistake on their part, especially since I will now have to make a $34 stop payment fee to my bank for the lost check. To which she told me my rent would not be accepted unless the late fee was included.
I'm utterly appalled that I received this treatment as a loyal tenant whose records indicate pays her rent on time every month and who has been nothing but polite.
Now, that online payments are back in operation I have made my March payment today (March 12) including the late fee.
I am requesting a refund in the amount of $30 for a wrongful Late fee charge due to the front office loosing my March rent check.
Thank you
Claimed loss: $30 for a wrongful Late rent fee. $34 to my bank to put a stop payment on the rent check imperial pointe management lost.
Desired outcome: At least the $30 late rent fee returned back to me.
