There are so many things that are wrong with, Brown Mackie College's, it's hard to know where to even start! First of all, the entire recruiting and enrollment process is not only deceptive and misleading, students are flat out LIED to everything from class scheduling to financial aid. BMC doesn't want to let the cat out of the bag that they don't have a regional accreditation, thus non of their credits will transfer to other local colleges. They are a college for profit and believe me the only thing they are interested in is lining their corporate pockets. It's definitely a real shame! There are a lot of decent students that do attend BMC with hopes and dreams of bettering the lives of themselves and their families; however, those dreams very quickly turn into nightmares for many people! There are a hand full of us that all started at the same time that have experienced different problems. No more so than those that signed up and enrolled in the OTA program. Most, (not all but most), were not told that they would have to take the Compass Test, pass it and if they don't pass it take the refresher courses, pass them and then take the Compass Test again and if they can't pass it they can't get into the program; however, person's in that course study still get charged for the first semester. As far as the classes and the instructors go, that aspects an even bigger joke! Like I said, you do have a hand full of students there that are serious about improving their lot but the larger majority of those that attend BMC, only about 1% are college material! You have people that can't even read, write or speak on an elementary level, let alone a college level. Almost everyone at the college makes a 4.0.! Instructors allow people who walk in an hour late or those who are going to leave early to sign the attendance book. An instructor who was honest enough to answer my questions, based on anonymity, said flat out that is done so they can get the money. This school for profit is just that, for profit and all about their bottom line! Open book and note test almost every class! It's all a big scam and I wish I would have known what a scam it was before I signed on the dotted line! Now, 6 months into it, I feel trapped because of the financial debt that I've already accrued and if that isn't punishment enough, it's also been discovered that most major employers look at a BMC degree and laugh! Just a disclaimer in as much as those of us who are suffering have a portion of the blame, as we should have been more thorough in checking this college out. Still, it seems to me that the federal government would be interested to know how student's are being done, and the dirty tactics that are being used to entrapped people who genuinely want to improve their lot in life, only to be done dirty. If you are someone who goes to a BMC, please respond back to [protected]@gmail.com. We'd love to hear your story and see if your willing to join us in trying to expose this injustice! There is way more that could be told; however, to protect certain individuals from retribution, they can't be told here on this public forum. Food for thought, "friends don't let friends go to BMC"!
I've been at brown Mackie for two years now and have never had any problems . I started at the Louisville campus and transferred to the northern Kentucky campus. The majority of my classes have been closed book closed note test. I'm in the MA program and all classes related to the program were like that on the test. No notes on tests! However I do agree that if a person comes in late or leaves early they shouldn't be allowed to sign in. It's simply not fair to those of us who are trying to better ourselves, plus it's a huge distraction when people come in late. But like I said I've yet to have any issues with them. I have two months left and I will be done!
I went to Brown Mackie in Michigan City, IN. for Veterinary Technology & was assured that their program was accredited & that when I graduated, I would be fully prepared to take the National/State exams & be able to get a job in any clinic. While I was there-I did very well, but the problem is-what they teach is not what real-world veterinary clinics require. Through sheer determination-going in on days off to use the microscopes, library, equipment, etc.-I graduated, passed the VTNE/State exams with flying colors & was licensed as an RVT. I was concerned with my lack of 'hands on' training, but was told repeatedly that once I got into a clinic-I would pick everything up quickly & be fine. This was one of many, many lies I was told by the Brown Mackie staff. Had I known that the education I was going to get was NOT up to standards, I never would've signed on, but the recruiting staff were very skilled at weaving all kinds of BULL#### into convincing me my dream of becoming an RVT would be realized through them. I am convinced that Brown Mackie is nothing but a scam & I am not the only one that feels that way. I am now stuck with $29, 000+ in student debt & did not get the education I was promised. I have been unable to work for the last 2 years because of being assaulted by a former boss (veterinarian), so I don't know how I am going to be able to pay the student LOANs. I've been told that there is a class action lawsuit against Brown Mackie & I would love to know how to get involved. If I had gotten the education I was promised & was able to work in that field, fully prepared & trained-I would have no problem, but since the education I received was sketchy at best-I'm livid that I wasted 2 years of my life & only got years in debt. Anyone have any information on a lawsuit against Brown Mackie...? By the way-I am 1 of only 2 students in my class that were able to go on, pass the exams & become licensed.
