Petro Canada - Claim of defective credit/debit card equipment at the pump for 1 year - cash only payment for gas purchase

In early January 2022, I stopped at Petro-Canada, 21245 Highway 15, Fort Saskatchewan, AB to gas up my vehicle. I noticed a note at the pump stating that they could only accept cash payment for gas as their credit/debit card equipment was defective. I carry very little cash on me at all times, so I ended up putting $20.00 of gas as this was all the cash, I had on me.

In March 2022, I stopped again at this service station to fill up with gas. The sign claiming that they could only accept cash for the purchase of gas was still up. I left without purchasing gas. I stopped at a different gas station in Fort Saskatchewan instead.

In June 2022, I stopped again at Petro-Canada, 21245 Highway 15 to purchase gas. I went in to speak to the owner as he wanted cash payment only, claiming that his credit/debit card equipment was still defective. I pointed out to him that this was the 3rd time in 6 months that I had stopped to purchase gas. I told him that it does not take 6 months to fix a credit/debit card equipment. I left without purchasing gas.

My husband and I stopped in July and September 2022, same situation – signs are still up on the pumps stating that their credit/debit card equipment is defective and that only cash payment can be accepted.

I stopped in October 2022. I left without purchasing gas – signs are still up stating that only cash payment can be accepted.

On December 26, 2022, my husband and I stopped at the above-mentioned gas station to top up the gas in his vehicle. I could not believe that their sign is still up stating that they can only accept cash for the purchase of gas. We topped up our vehicle with just enough gas to give us peace of mind to reach our destination without problem; we did not know if all gas stations along the way were fully operational.

No respectable business owner would act in this manner.

I also submitted the above information to CCRA.
