Liquor Control Board of Ontario [LCBO] - Security

I tried to enter the LCBO at Yonge St. and Green Lane in Newmarket (East Gwillimbury) today. The security guard started yelling at me when I approached the second door. When I stopped and asked him what it was that had him so troubled, he continued to yell at me, claiming that I was not allowed to enter without his permission, stating that I had to wait in line. I looked behind me and in front of me. There was no line inside or outside of the store. Let me clarify that for you: There was nobody at all standing inside or outside of the store or the doors where I was standing! And yet I was screamed at by your security guard to "get in line." When I asked him just what line it was to which he was referring, he became even more indignant, stating yet again that I was only permitted to enter the store when and if he said so. When I asked him to please clarify for me why I was not allowed to enter the store, he then decided to suddenly change his mind for some reason and, in an incredibly rude and insulting fashion and still yelling at me, instructed me that I could only do so if I use the recommended hand sanitizer.
Let me just clarify this for you again. I was first screamed at in very threatening tones for not lining up in a non-existent line (nobody outside or inside the establishment), I was then informed by the same screaming security guard that I was not legally permitted to enter your store unless I had his permission and used your hand sanitizer, with no explanation, logical or otherwise, given.
I would like to know just what law it is that states that I am not permitted to enter your stores without the permission of your security guards. I would also like to know why your thugs are allowed to force your customers to line up in lines that do not exist, and why apparently your hand sanitizer is so much more effective than whichever brands your customers happen to use.
I am utterly sickened how I was treated there today. There is no justifiable reason for him or anyone else to treat me or any other customer like a criminal, especially when we have committed no crime. By keeping people like him in your employ you will only drive customers away from your stores and into other establishments where we are treated as people, and not like criminal scum.

This was by far the worst experience I've had at the LCBO

Are you joking here "As COVID-19 continues to progress" What is progressing ? The case count is going down not up. This due to the ct count of the PCR test. The WHO has stated that anything over 25 will cause false positives and Ontario has been using 40 to 42 therefor false positives are off the chart. Add to that that they count any contact the patient may have had a a case also despite the fact they don't have any symptoms. Please don't give us that canned statement and call these complaints resolved they are not resolved. Continue on this path and you could see class action lawsuits against the board itself.

As COVID-19 continues to progress, health and safety remains top of mind for us all. We are following the direction of public health officials to limit the effect COVID-19 may have on our valued employees and customers.

We are committed to transparency in communicating with our employees and the public. We are providing updates as we become aware of confirmed cases. Click here for details. When we are informed of confirmed cases, we will take appropriate action immediately, which includes temporarily closing the store for additional deep cleaning, contacting all impacted employees, and connecting with local Public Health officials. Should we receive additional direction from officials including specific notification required to our customers, we will act immediately and accordingly.

Store Hours

We’re expanding our hours at 360 stores, starting May 14.

Select LCBO locations will now be open from 10 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, while others will continue their reduced schedule of 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Most stores remain open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays.
All locations are closed on Mondays.

As this situation evolves, some LCBO stores may need to close without notice, or adjust their hours and/or days of operation.

LCBO Convenience Outlets authorised to sell beverage alcohol are privately owned and business hours may vary.

Changes to the Shopping Experience

The LCBO has been adopting measures to protect staff and customers including:

Increased cleaning and sanitization in our stores and warehouses.
*Managing traffic flow within our stores via security to avoid crowding and marking points within the stores as guidance for staying recommended distances apart.*
Plexiglass barriers at cash desks across our retail network.
Providing face shields for LCBO retail staff to wear while serving customers to protect their eyes, mouth and nose and to help deter unnecessary touching of the face.

As part of our Responsible Service Program, we have policies and procedures in place and in accordance with the law for the purposes of checking ID and public intoxication before serving customers. Thank you for your understanding and for removing your mask safely if requested to do so while visiting our stores.

Priority Access for Healthcare Workers

We are proud to join the retail industry’s appreciation of healthcare workers during COVID-19 by offering priority access within our retail stores.

Healthcare workers (which include all employees from hospitals, health care facilities, and paramedics) who present official photo identification of their role will be invited to take their place at the front of any line up outside of LCBO stores.

How You Can Help

These actions do not take the place of preventative measures recommended by public health officials. Help us keep everyone safe by doing the following:

Do not shop if you are ill or should be self-isolating
Plan your trip by making a list.
If you can, shop alone.
Practice physical distancing and adhere to traffic flow markers throughout the store.
Whenever possible, pay with debit or credit to reduce handling of cash.
Pack your own reusable bag
