I have spoke with several of Alex's Clients and yes, He does charge way to much for a dog, i mean c'mon, $2, 000 for an untrained puppy and $10k plus for a "Fully trained" dog? That dog better be able to go to work for me, do my taxes and clean my house for that kind of money! but on the other hand, if people want to spend their money on such things, its their money, they are not making you buy one of his over priced dogs. I suppose it is no worse than spending 10 grand on cocaine or something. I personally would never buy a dog from Alex, but I am sure some people think its worth it. If i want a dog, I will go to the local animal shelter and pay the $60 adoption fee.

Alex does everything he can to make sure he provides people with the right dog to suit their needs. He really cares about his dogs (unlike most protection trainers/importers). Look at his website. He provides excellent care for his dogs. As far as cost is concerned--his prices ARE reasonable, especially when you consider the excellent care and living conditions he provdes each of them. If you do not want a purebred dog that comes from a reputable home--go to a puppy mill and pay $100. You CAN get cheaper dogs--but they do not come from European working lines that served in the military in WWII. These are the bloodlines Alex works with. Alex's dogs are beautiful, healthy, and happy. Many breeders sell puppies for between $[protected]--and most of these dogs have been highly inbred and no longer have the genetics to actually work. Alex's dogs will not win in an AKC show ring--but they will certainly beat any of those 'barie dogs' in their ability to protect you and your family. There are many places who provide protection dogs--but the majority of them charge twice as much as Alexand the dogs often don't do the work trainers claim they do. Alex actually delivers the dog and works with you personally to ensure you know how to handle your new companion. If you do not trust him and his prices--I would suggest meeting with him and his dogs personally. He would gladly show you what his dogs can actually do.

Thom, It must have Been a while since you checked out Alex's site. I checked out his most recent price list and he Wants $30k for a 'Fully trained" Dog. I mean come on, no animal is worth that, especially if it is for personal use or companionship. A commom thread I see from Alex's supporters is "You cant put a price on your family's safety" Well, I am sure my SIG P220 will keep my family protected just fine, And I paid about $700.00 for it, alot cheaper than Alex's dogs and it needs no food, no shots, and it wont die in 10 years or so. Maybe if i was the leader of a Colombian drug Cartel and My child was a high value kidnapping target, then I could justify the cost, then again, I could get almost two kilos of blow for the cost of one of these "Wonder dogs". Another case Alex lovers try to make is " They arew from European Lines that served in the Military since WWII" Well, my Father Served in Korea and Vietnam and I was a veteran of the first gulf war, Does that mean I am worth more and should make more than someone with no military background? I think not, that is Just a gimmick Alex uses to tack extra $$ on to his prices for the dogs. On the other hand though, As long as there are people stupid enough to pay his sky high prices, then good on him for pulling off such a feat. There is nothing criminal about what Alex does, but like Thom, I have better things to spend my money on. I mean c'mon, $30k buys you a nice car, or in some rural parts of the country, you can even buy a house.

I bought what was supposed to be a Personal Protection dog from a individual named Alex Dunbar of CQBK9 (Close Quarter Battle K9).
I thought I had done my research; there was nothing negative at that time about him on the internet searches or with the BBB.
I paid him $7100.00 for this dog. A dog named Eri. According to his website a Personal Protection dog was supposed to be obedience trained on and off leash and protection trained.
He went to Slovakia to supposedly find a “special” dog just for me because I have other animals including pet geese.
He found a dog in Slovakia that lived on a goose farm and brought it to the states.
He had this dog in his possession less than two weeks before he brought it to my home. I have all the emails that correlate the timing. How much training could have taken place in two weeks time from farm to my house.
The dog could not do simple obedience; he never showed me the dog doing any work. The dog didn’t know sit from down let alone protection work.
His excuse was that the dog was in sensory overload due to my other animals.
He told me to let him acclimate and that I should do some obedience training using food with him and he would be back. My own dogs minded better than the dog he brought.
He was supposed to stay for 3 days to teach me how to use the dog. He left the dog with me in less than 24 hours.
I was even up front (or stupid) enough to give him an extra $100.00 when he sat at my kitchen table and complained of having to pay extra to ship the dog in.
I took a week’s vacation from work to spend bonding, learning to work with this dog and let him acclimate.

The dog was totally unfit for living in a house and untrained. He destroyed things and threw himself against my window if I walked outside. He displayed the same behavior when Alex was there and walked out the front door. The dog threw himself against the door. I brought that up to Alex and he just dismissed it.

I took this dog to the vet and was told by her to try to get a minimum of 10 pounds on him. His prostrate was enlarged. He was scared silly of the vet. She couldn’t even look in his ears, he fell over and went belly up he was so terrified. When he did you could see the mud just caked on his stomach from living outdoors. The vet and the vet tech thought he was a rescue dog. This was not a well socialized, well adjusted obedience or protection trained dog. I can send a copy of this report.

I took this dog with me everywhere I went for 1 week. I took him to church with me and when I tried to show him to people after church, when they reached out to pet him he shied away. When a car engine started he almost choked himself trying to get away. I had workers at my home and they laughed at him because he was so shy. I called when the workers went to lunch and Alex and he told me to put him in the garage away from the workers.

Really? My Protection Dog in the garage.

It became obvious that Alex Dunbar had cheated me. This was just some dog that he got off a goose farm (by his own admission) and brought to my home. While he was at my home he told me he didn’t think the dog would bother my geese because he had been living on a goose farm and joking it had also been his food but of course the dog didn’t know it.
I finally had to kennel the dog at my expense after he threw himself against my front window and broke some glass ornaments on the sill. I had to go back to work and I couldn’t leave this dog loose in my home.
I went out and purchased a crate for the dog and coaxed him into it with dog cookies. I then went outside and started my car as if I was leaving and watched through the window. This dog threw himself around in the crate until I thought he would break a leg or hurt himself.
That was the final act. I did not want to be responsible for the dog to getting hurt in a crate while I was away at work so I kenneled him.
This was not what I paid $7100.00 for.
I called Alex and informed him about what was going on and informed him I was going to send Eri back to Colorado and Alex was very angry telling me that I didn’t give the dog a chance. I told him that I knew good and well the dog was not trained. He said he would not replace the dog but give me my money back because no one could find a dog to suit me. I have owned dogs all my life. I raise, train and show dogs of a different breed but not for protection. I have put many titles on dogs and I know a trained dog and this was not one. It wasn’t even close to what he advertised for a Personal Protection Dog for the amount paid.

I later found this same dog listed on a site called [redacted].com filed by someone else. They were at the airport the day Alex brought the dog in and they said the dog was sick calling him by name.

He paid me a $1000.00 in February, two years after the dog was returned after many excuses and only after he found out I had a dog that was training with deputies from the Ashtabula Sheriff’s Dept.. They knew well of Alex from the Captain of the department on down. He tried to get them to pay thousands of dollars for dogs sight unseen. They weren’t suckered in. Deputies refer to him as Alex Dumbar. If the dogs were worthy why wouldn’t he be willing to let a Sheriff’s Department see them first?

Alex lied about the dog. It was nothing close to what he advertised on his website as the dogs he was selling as Personal Protection dogs for that amount of money. I also spoke to another dog trainer that knows Alex very well. He told me that if the dog was so in sensory overload from my animals that he couldn’t work at my house Alex should have taken me to a park or a shopping center or anywhere else and worked the dog. He also told me if that dog was truly protection trained that Alex should have never left me alone with a dog that I didn’t know how to handle. Alex Dunbar of CQBK9 cheated and swindled me out of my money. He has stolen what is rightfully mine.
He keeps promising to send more of my money when he has a sale but he has had plenty of sales and claims to be opening a new kennel because the demand for dogs is so high.

Close Quarter Battle K-9 Starting another Kennel in the Pacific Northwest due to high demand of dogs!

I have recently sent him three emails asking when he will send the rest of my money.
He now won’t reply at all. I know he’s receiving the emails because he is on a German Shepherd list that I am on and it tells you who’s online at the time.
I emailed him again recently when I saw him online and shortly after he went offline.
I can send all correspondence that has taken place between us.

I did purchase a dog from another individual that was shipped in from Germany sight unseen. I picked this new dog up at the airport and took him out of his crate.
He is and was from the day I received him everything the individual promised.
He knew all his obedience commands and within two days the individual that shipped him met with me and showed me his protection work. This new dog also came into my home at 3 yrs old and adjusted to all the other animals immediately. Within a week this dog was free in my home while I went to work.
That man delivered what he promised and what I paid for.

Alex Dubar of Close Quarter Battle K9 (CQBK9) as far as I’m concerned and in his dealings with me is a liar, a swindler and a thief.
I originally contacted Alex because I had someone stalking me at the time. He lied and misrepresented the dog and swindled me out of my money. What kind of man does that to someone in distress.
He has the dog, which he as resold, a brand new crate that I purchased to ship the dog back at my expense and $6000.00 of my money.

So the individual above is right and Alex Dunbar of Close Quarter Battle -CQBK9 is a cheat and a swindler and DOES NOT have 100% customer satisfaction!

Think twice before dealing with him and look elsewhere!

I have two fine dogs from Alex, both sold to me as puppies. Nothing but 5 and 6 years now of bliss, fine and healthy animals.

I can understand that, you bought puppies. I bought what was supposed to be a fully trained PPD dog. It's hard to mess up selling a puppy unless it is sick or genetically defective.
This dog was not what it was sold to be, not even close!

I have a 5 year old dog from Alex. She is an excellent protector, can track my young children (5 and 7) or help them get home if they are lost (we live amongst about 90 acres of forests), and can do water-rescues, among other things. She was brought to us both for personal protection, but also as an aide to my son, who is autistic. She has never chewed or damaged my property in any way or jumped on us. She has never barked except for when someone is approaching our house, and then it's just a couple of barks to alert us, nothing more. She has never chased or attacked other animals or humans unduly (I have sicced her on animals that were potential threats, but she has never posed a threat to an animal that she was not instructed to attack). She was not underweight (she has actually a little chubby and has lost about 2 pounds living out here) and she has adapted well to every situation I have put her in. She recently accompanied me to a family reunion of about 200 people and received compliments from everyone about how well-behaved she was off-leash. For the first four months that we had her, we lived in the city and we never had a problem with her there either. She quickly adapted to our lifestyle and understood what was expected of her. When we moved out here, she quickly adapted to that as well and understood the new situation with no problems.

My husband, who was a policeman for almost 30 years, says that she is one of the most intelligent, well trained dogs he has ever seen. Since we have owned her, we have added to her training on our own, from serious training (such as assisting my husband while hunting) to fun-stuff to impress our friends (when we meet a new person, I can tell her to introduce herself and she will bow to the person), and she has picked everything up quickly. I have tested all of her commands and she has responded promptly to all of them. The children love doing tracking drills with her...it's just playing "hide-n-seek" to them.

I did not get the dog that I asked for. Before Alex showed up with this dog, he explained to me that the dog I asked for was an excellent dog, but that this one was a better choice for me, my family, and what we needed. After having this dog for almost a year, I believe every word of that. She is the perfect dog for us. I'm not a dog person at all and for the most part can't stand the creatures, but this one was worth every penny and I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Someone commented earlier that their gun was just as good, if not better, than any dog...well, a gun is only on the clock when YOU are, and only works when you make it work. My dog is locked, cocked, and ready to rock regardless of whether I'm sleeping, in the shower, playing with my kids in the park, or whatever else I may be doing. She remains vigilant 24/7 so that I don't have to. My dog will never jam, misfire, or be a potentially lethal hazard if found by a curious child.

I have never had a problem from Alex or the dog that he provided me with and I stand behind them both.

I too got a great dog from someone other than Alex after returning the one he brought.
Now Alex has the dog, which he has resold, the money, new crate etc.
I'm curious why you would even write to a complaint board when you don't have a complaint unless you were put up to it.
I'm not surprised that Alex had the good sense to sell a good dog to a former police officer.
He tried to get Ashtabula's Sheriffs Dept to pay for dogs sight unseen.
They do not speak highly of him.

Maybe that's why you didn't get the dog that you asked for.
Neither did I.
The first one he tried to sell me was 5 yrs old and had been placed before according to the email and apparently returned.
Again glad your dog worked out. I wish mine had, I wouldn't have had to buy another one and still be waiting for the refund of my money 2 years and 8 months later.

To Thom_AZ you must be new to the pet owning world because 2k for a untrained champing bloodline is a deal you will normally find between 5k to 10k. i own two of Alex 's dogs and after seeing how well there training was i sent another protection dog from Harrison K-9 witch by the way was not the dog i was supposed to get from the pictures to Alex for retraining to fix Harrions mess ups and again Alex's prices are quite modest since Harsion starts around 35k. Thank you Alex for 2 wonderful dogs...Cheers

To aj87 I don't know where you live but I've been in show dogs of another breed for over 30yrs.
I own and breed dogs with three Championships in conformation and working titles on the other end of their name.
One of those dogs was a top, in fact #1 confirmation dog in the country.
I also have dogs that train and compete in sport work.
Those starting line puppies from top, #1 dogs cost around 2k
2k even 3k for an untrained puppy from those lines is quite reasonable.
5 to 10k for an untrained dog isn't even realistic in competition and show circles.
So untrained, unsocialized, unproven dogs are never worth that much money regardless of how many titles their parents have.
If you are paying 5 and 10 k for untrained dogs regardless of how many titles their parents have I know of a ton of dog people that would like to have your name and business.

To anyone think9ing of buying a dog from ANYONE here's a good rule to remember.

Linda your absolutely right Oliver is trained well because Alex had nothing to do with his training he just imported him and handed him right to me, he was trained in Slovakia . But when Alex dropped off Oliver there was no handlers course shown how to handle Oliver. I paid someone else to show me how to handle Oliver now all is perfect, but I should not have to pay someone else to show me how to handle a dog I paid 10, 000 for.Now just waiting on his papers but Alex is just ignoring me and threatens me with emails saying he will burn the papers on a video and show me, If I do not stop asking for them. I own the Company mentioned above and want to explain the facts here.
Being raised by a US Army Colonel (RET) and mother that are still married, I was
raised to not lie, cheat, or steal or something bad would come my way. I work very hard
to provide people better K-9's than anybody else in the world. I have to tell the world now that
in 2008 I almost died from cancer. During my hospitalization, a Czechoslovakian couple in Colorado tried to steal my business
(they stole over $10K in equipment) which forced me to move from my location of several years.
It ended well in that I now have a beautiful self-sufficient ranch with plenty of room and fresh air for the dogs to enjoy, away from the city.

The people complaining ordered dogs from me that I went to Slovakia in order to custom import and do specialized training with.
It is a fact that I did this and worked very hard to get the right dog for their situation, then I delivered the dogs through extremely bad weather in winter months.
I did my job, but there are some people that are never happy, sick individuals. They never signed contracts. One refuses to give an address, the
other, no matter what I do to rectify the situation, continues to slander, defame, and cause me emotional distress.
Now I have an Animal Law Attorney that will eviscerate anyone in the future that tries such nonsense, and she makes sure
that all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. It clearly states on my website that deposits are non-refundable.
The complaining parties have, or had, dogs that are worth double of what they paid for, despite their complaints, and it's extremely frustrating to
work hard but then have to deal with an utter lack of professionalism on their part.

Regardless of the roadblocks I've encountered along the way, I have never quit at anything in my life, and being a former USMC Reconnaissance NCO, I do my best to make the mission succeed, no matter how ridiculous the situation may be. I have bred, trained, selected, imported over 200 K-9's for police, military,
foreign governments, families and people at risk. I can provide numerous references from both clients and fellow K-9 handlers who know me and my dogs personally. I assure you, their number far outweighs the few complaints. Go to your favorite search engine and type in my first and last name, plus War Dogs, to see my recent accomplishments.
I am working on several patents for K-9's, my own Dog Food Company, among other things. There is nothing else to say on this matter.

Because this individual refuses to give and address, I am using a common friend, so this idiot can get his papers, he bought a Personal Protection Dog, without Breeding Rights. What would you do in my situation?, I am going to send these papers to Lorraine, and that is that.
You seem to be there all the time anyway, I wish I never brought Oliver to you, you do not deserve
such a nice dog.
I wanted to help you as you were Lorraine's friend. But that is not ever

But yet, you slander me now as a competitor, with "all the many dogs I have sold" and commit fraud with Oliver as you are using another dog with AKC Registration and selling pups for as "Slovakian" (Oliver is actually from Czech Republic)$3000! I am sure you know what DNA is, as all my Slovakian Dogs are Certified with DNA.
You have pretty much painted yourself into yet another corner. Several Trainers refuse to work with this individual because of his narcissistic behavior, and generally being a pain in the ###.
He is concocting stories about his dog, to make himself look better. I went three ties from
Colorado to New York and his dog was sold at a discount w/o shipping/delivery charges.
He has a $XX, XXX dollar dog and continues to complain to the whole world on the internet .
He has had to change his name on FB several times for, stalking, spamming, perversion, now living out of wedlock with another man's wife (and I met her). That is why he is hiding and
continues to refuse to provide and address. Speaking with my Attorney on 12 October 2011 and involving both parties in suing them for repeated slander, defamation of character, emotional distress they have caused me.

Some people in this business are busy training dogs, not whining and complaining for EXACTLY what I went to Slovakia to get the right dog for their specific requirements. Extortion, slander, defamation of character is a Crime. I
have an Attorney. I have been paying Linds McCorkle money back, and am working on Phillip Rein's dogs papers. What have I done wrong? Nothing.
