job postings
I am a recruiter for a top marketing company. I had thought that I would try craigslist to post an ad for recruitment into my company. What I have discovered is the people who did respond to the ad were less then desirable (calling when intoxicated, not showing up for a scheduled interview, lazy etc). I decided to look at other postings to see if there were any other reputable companies posting on craigslist. Unfortunately what I found was about 70% of the posting looked like scams. About a week into the ad being posted, it got flagged and removed. This made me question craigslist further. I had gone on to the help section of craigslist to find out why this would happen. What I seem to have learned is that craigslist is now controlled by many people of undesirable nature and they are trying to push all legitimate business out. After reading some of the complaints here I would have to say that the only thing allowed on craigslist are scams. It is too bad that craigslist has turned into one big scam because at one time when it first started out it was a great resource. I say to everyone reading this to be aware and do not post or respond to posts on craigslist, unless you are positive you will get the results you are looking for.
scam car on craigslist
I found a car on craigslist Nissan Pa-finder 2007 for $2, 200. I contacted him by email. Someone else asked me to open Google checkout account. They asked me to sent the money to that third party to hold it until I receive the car. I figured out that they scammed me. I need to know why many people complaint and craigslist keep the same Sgt John Duggan online making business with Craigslist. I need help from FBI and others Federal agents to help me get my money back.
It happened to me but it was 2004 Jeep Cherokee for 1900 with Google checkout. I'm trying to figure out how to take actions.
scammer from craigslist
Anthony W Hinson is scammer from South Florida. He is seller on Craigslist, but when he receives money you will never hear from him again. I reported about him to police officer and now they want to arrest him! I hope they will find this assh*le.

ghosting ads
I am about as desperate as it gets, not to mention frustrated with this website and very very upset that it has gotten so big and annoying.
I am a single mother of 2, one of them being a 5 month old. I work from home to avoid taking him to day care, and as many people in this country, I am obligated to use craigslist for my business.
I dont sell cars, but do referrals to the dealerships in town, I work very hard all day, get calls late at night and cant afford to not take them, the economy is terrible and one missed call could mean one missed sale. The income is not great, but does pay the bills and allows me to stay at home to take care of my baby and my 5 y.o. boy.
I am very upset about craigslist ghosting my ads and bringing my count down to 3 every 48 hrs, when I've seen many dealers posting up to 5 ads of the same vehicle in one day. If I dont get calls and with a lot of luck get the customer to go to the dealer and buy I DONT MAKE MONEY!
This is outrageous, how can they monopolize the internet this way? Why do they do this to honest, hard working people? We depend on those sales to survive, to feed our kids and keep a roof over our heads. What am I supposed to tell my kid when I cant sell more? How do I pay my rent? I have very little help from their dad because he doesnt make that much money, day care is not an option because it's very expensive.
Who the heck do they think they are to stop us from working? Because that's what they are doing to me!
I wish we all could get together and bring this company down. There's got to be a way to get them out of business or change those stupid rules. There's way more serious issues they should be worried about and not praying on honest people. All we do is try to get our heads above water, that's all. Not trying to buy yatchs or million dlls homes...just survive.
as of lately less ads have been ghosted and most items seem to be going up, except for overseas ads, they seem to be blocking these for USA advertisers. since everything is automated, cannot tell what is being posted or not, frequently go to look for confirmed placed ads and they are not there. Readership has fallen off dramatically also.
Worse class of lookers in the country. Everyone wants something for nothing, and are very uncooperative. Received five phone calls in 12 weeks from Craigslist. The world is normal and when one enters Craigslist its a different planet. Nothing has an value and no one has any manners-its a free for all-I took my phone number out of my ads because of all the verbal abuse from callers. Good luck selling things on Craigslist.
craigslist is discriminatory ang vengeful, either they need to br purchased by a proper corporation or regulated by a oversight panel. The government should just close them down or make it go public. They mock their users and (see the forums) are partial and vindictive. i realize that i have been offended frequently and have to forgive them constantly to keep my sanity.
Have had the exact same problem with ad placed by advertising agent. My ad girl placed several hundred ads over a six month period, I paid her for doing so and all the ads were ghosted-none got published. Craigslist has become "information Nazi's". I never know what is getting published and what is not-although I suspect they have certain restrictions on individual accounts .For example, my car ad sgo in to the Phoenix site and surrounding areas, however are blocked elsewhere in the country, despite being a fresh ad every 48 hours. Our service ads in Phoenix seem not to be published at all. The average reader on Craiglist has no money, just shopping around for a bargain. Just no sales on Craigslist. People just do not trust Craigslist anymore-bad terms of service-lead to incidents-which eroded people's confidence in the website. They take in 10 million a year and advertisers suffer emotional and physical abuse from the buyers.
scam
Need to shut down this website can't use craigslist always being scammed by this person using many email addresses. Here is the scamer. Re:re: littlest pet shops — 3 - $99 (San jose west)
Is your product still for sale? Umm... This might be bizarre but you sound delightful in your posting. Do you want to get drinks sometimes? I promise i'm not a weirdo, just feeling alone. If you're interested, meet me on my private dating profile (It's like facebook for grownups), there's no cost to join! My pictures and my cell # are all on there so get in touch with me. There are too many fakes on here so if you're real text me and maybe we can meet to become buddies and maybe more? Who knows? Okay, I won't bother you again! You'll be taken aback to find out who I am! :)

spam... spam... spam
craigslist.org is a site for the perps and illegals. do you know how many illegal 'rideshare services' are being operated these ethnics with old vans? do you know why I am aware that it is illegal? because while using one of these rideshares we were pulled over, the driver got a $24xx fine and I was asked if i would submit a testimony. yet each and every week when i search the craigslist.org rideshare page for legit rides, there are none. only adverts from the same perps/illegals with the same old vans. they cannot use a van for rideshare purposes because they carry no insurance. that seems to be the real problem. at least that is what the cop said. look, whomever setup the craigslist.org is likely a perp/illegal. bottom line: you are a pig, just like those guys behind the rideshare adverts (multiple of times submitted per day). f*** off.

craigslist is a de-facto unregulated utility that abuses its market power and discriminates people
Craigslist is a de-facto unregulated utility that abuses its market power and discriminates people.
Due to the fact that craigslist provides an essential service to the community; classified ads;
the fact that craigslist has eliminated local competition from newspapers etc
the fact that craigslist competitors are so much smaller than craigslist that even their combined market share is only a fraction of craigslsit market share
the fact that craigslist is a hybrid for profit business mixed with a free service to the community
the fact that craigslist has built in discrimination clauses in its "Terms of Use":
"You acknowledge that craigslist does not pre-screen or approve Content, but that craigslist
shall have the right (but not the obligation) in its sole discretion to
refuse, delete or move any Content that is available via the Service, for
violating the letter or spirit of the TOU or for any other reason."
Specifically craigslist mentions that they can deny service for any reason (any reason includes retaliation or discrimination against some users). Craigslist fails to communicate with those who complain and instead has set up a "help desk" that tends to harass anyone who disagrees with craigslist.
Due to the essential role that classifieds play in the economy and the fact that craigslist has eliminated competition; it is necessary that the government steps in and protects consumers from craigslist abuse and regulates craigslist.
Update:
After posting ads on
a) ebay classifieds
b) backpage.com
c) pennysaverusa.com (very good)
d) www.olx.com
it seems that none of them works. So craigslist is the only game in town but is run by abusive people who abuse their market power: the result is that the American consumer loses as there is no real alternative.
Clarification: Google Checkout requires credit card registration and that is why I eliminated it from my list of possible craiglist alternatives.
Also I do not feel comfortable giving my phone number to craigslist and ebay because they are for profit companies that seem to have no problem abusing and discriminating people.
Sherri, go to hell. And John, if you want an environment where no one can "harass" you or post rebuttals on bogus reviews, then by all means feel free to meander over to my3cents.

Craigslist: is a for profit business that is also partially owned by another for profit business (Ebay). However, Craigslist uses a .org domain. Although this is legal and admissible under ICANN rules; it appears to me that it is misleading to the public. in addition from making money from job ads, Craigslist still makes money off illegal sex and...

Recently, I published a vehicle for sale on craigslist. This website is to sell your vehicle to anyone in public, not for this scamming company to call me, acting as a 3rd party for a sale of my vehicle. You should be banned from craigslist! I am going to post on craigslist what this so called company is doing, and post the name of the gentleman that call me and the phone number, so this can be stopped! Shame on you! People out here trying to sell their products and you want a cut! You won't get any of mine!

it's the worst place to look for jobs there is
It's the worst place to look for JOBS there is. Most of the ads are spammers or agencies collecting your information. I especially avoid any ads that don't give a business address, phone number, fax number or email address. If businesses were to advertise in a newspaper at least one of these things would be listed. If it's only a Craigslist email address that's given, back off! I had to change my personal email address because I was getting 70+ spams a day. I really need a job badly but I'm tired of trying to filter out the 10% real jobs from the rest.

craigslist buyer
I was selling a couch on craigslist when Cartiar Moore contacted me to purchase the item for full price. As soon as they started talking about a paypal id, shipping company and Western Union bank transfer my instinct told me to not do business with them. Sure enough when I googled the name your many complaints appeared. I truly am thankful for people that take the time to share scam experiences with others to avoid it happening again. How do we stop them from continuing? I find it mind boggling that they are able to keep the same name and scam over and over again. What is craigslist doing about this? If anyone knows what we can do to put an end to their foolish escapades, count me in!
Thanks for posting your experience...i just received an offer from them myself...what can we do to stop them?
I sorry, my correct e-mail is chrzesno@yahoo.com
I was a victom of Cartiar moore as well. If you are still intrested in helping others, please contect me at chrzesno1@yahoo.com. Thanks.
blacklisted my phone number for no reason
I used to sell all kinds of items that I had around the house or that I obtained elsewhere on my local Craigslist. Well, about a month ago I went on there too and one listing and repost it again and I could not access my account. I tried the password numerous times and it would not let me in. After a while I sent an e-mail to Craigslist asking why my account wouldn’t function or if there was something wrong with it. They would not and never did respond to the e-mail.
So I took a friend of mine device and tried to start another account. It said that I couldn’t because that e-mail and the phone number were registered to another account. I went online and searched around and found a couple of forums that deal solely with Craigslist and I found a section on banned accounts and blacklisted phone numbers. According to the people in this forum and several others there were similar I had received the typical ban from Craigslist and that meant that that account would not be usable ever again and that my phone number would be blacklisted.
I don’t know why they do this as I didn’t do anything wrong. I wasn’t selling fake items like some people do – especially the ones peddling bootleg copies of DVDs and stuff. All I was doing was selling items that I had found at flea markets or other areas and reselling them or items that I hadn’t find in my attic in other places that I no longer needed or had any use for. Craigslist was a great place to get rid of these things and make some extra cash at the same time.
Maybe Craigslist has become like Amazon.com and too big for its own good. I see they are trying to police the ads that people post for free there and apparently they’re not doing a very good job of it. As I can go to any major city to the services section and find tons of spam and scams. Now I was not a spammer nor a scammer. I was selling items locally to people and all the people I sold these items to were thankful and appreciative.
They were getting items that they wanted pedigree discount because they were used and so I was fulfilling a need and a service. I was providing a good benefit. When I was also told at this forum was to not get too worried about it and just go and switch my phone number, get a new e-mail and start up a new account. According to them it was just that easy. Some of these characters so they had hundreds of accounts so they could basically spam or advertise their websites and products all over Craigslist to millions of people.
I'd like to add www.iBuyWeSell.com to the listed alternatives above. Additionally, I think its best that we all exercise caution with dealing with strangers online. That's why despite the online reach, I still prefer creating ad posts then sharing them to my personal contacts on Facebook or Twitter.
Yes, Craig's List is indeed a scam. I complained to Consumer Affairs of how they handle harassment complaints from the personals section. I filled out Craig's List's complaint form for a woman who did just that. I live in Phoenix, and this fifty-plus year old woman left ugly messages on my emails and text messages. She has broken their terms of use so many times. From a question she asked me, I believe she is a drug addict as well as a wacko. Fortunately, I found some other brave souls on here that seem to be genuine. Miracle! Also, someone posted an ad for a house cleaner in the help wanted section. He specifically asked for one's age. That is illegal. However, if he asks for one's birth date, that's apparently legal.. Craig's List failed to notify him of that law.
Since craigslist fails to remove posts that put the community in danger and does not contact you; submit a complaint to the FTC
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/Consumer_Home.htm
and your State Attorney General or State Consumer Protection Agency
Do not use the BBB because the BBB is a scam
Johnjustice recommended craigslist "alternatives":
a) ebay classifieds (yes it is the same ebay that owns 25 perc. of craigslist)
b) backpage.com
c) pennysaverusa.com (very good)
d) www.olx.com
I eliminated google checkout because it requires credit card registration. I also eliminated oodle because of their discrimination of non facebook users and recycler because they charge for online only ads.
All four alternatives above make it easy and fast to post an ad online. I will wait and see if I get any responses to see about their effectiveness.
www.oodle.com seems like a competitor to craigslist that has a big enough size to compete. I am looking into any viable competitors to craigslist. I am not affiliated with oodle.com and I would rather find an alternative to both craigslist and oodle given the fact that oodle is affiliated with facebook.
Other craigslist alternatives are pennysaverusa.com (small reach but loyal followers); backpage.com; and google checkout. None of the alternatives to craigslist come even close to craigslist reach but by posting an ad at the same time on
a) oodle.com or http://walmart.oodle.com/
b) backpage.com
c) pennysaverusa.com (very good)
d) google checkout
you have a good chance to sell your product. Lots of more work but it may be worth it.
Pennysaverusa.com seems to have a very strong brand like craigslist. Google should probably buy pennysaverusa.com or Walmart should.
Similar things with my ads; i posted two perfectly fine ads. 1 to sell a camera and 2 to sell a scanner and craigslist ghosted them. What it means is that the ads show as active on my account but no one else can see them or find them in search results. I find other users who have similar ads to mine that can be viewed right now and searched. "Ghosting" is just one of craigslist discriminatory policies. Also another discriminatory policy is "phone blacklisting"; the reason why it is discriminatory is because craigslist will not notify the person whose phone was blacklisted via email because they know that they would be hit by a million lawsuits. Craigslist is run like a scam operation; when will the government or some attorney intervene?
Another disgusting practice that Craigslist / Ebay use is to use unpaid volunteers to provide support for questions and complaints that craigslist users have. Of course they probably mix some paid employees with unpaid volunteers but the outcome is the same; anytime that the user complaints he or she usually gets two types of response from the craigslist "staff"
a) "go to hell" b) "tough luck, deal with it". Why are they allowed to get away with it? Because supposedly craigslist is a free service from a non profit company; however craigslist is not a free service as it has revenues from job ads and sex ads masked as "therapeutic services". The problem is that there is no real alternatives to craigslist and that is why the government needs to force this company to be broken down in separate pieces and tax them if they are not already taxed. Also .org should disappear and replaced by .com or split the .org for the free services and the .com for the "therapeutic services" and job ads.
Craigslist is a monopoly and a scam throughout the United States. The government needs to force this company to be broken up.
They make money off sex; they call them "therapeutic services" ads and discriminate against people who post legitimate ads and abuse people with no recourse.
Monopolies in the United States hurt consumers.
The fact that Ebay owns a stake in Craigslist makes it even worst and more of a monopoly.
Craigslist is a for profit business so they do not qualify as a .org but they are a .com.
In short craigslist is a scam pure and simple but they get away with it.
craigslist is being swamped with tons of fake employment ads offering unusually high pay
Craigslist is being swamped with tons of fake employment ads offering unusually high pay. Most of these ads are posted by someone with a gmail, gmx, live, in or even yahoo addresses, but now they get smarter by just using craigslist auto response addresses. The jobs sound very generic, usually Receptionist, Administrative Assistants. By responding you will notice you get almost an instant response where they prompt you to fill out an application – DO NOT DO THIS – IT IS BOGUS. I am unsure of what the scam is and how they profit, I can only imagine they fish for information, hence you email gets clogged with spam. Legit job ads follow general pay scales and tend to elaborate about the company, with company website info, phone number, etc.
After posting ads on:
a) ebay classifieds
b) backpage.com
c) pennysaverusa.com (very good)
d) www.olx.com
results: all of them make it easy to post ads; no weird craigslist-like phone verification mumbo-jumbo etc; but no one seems to read their classifieds so craigslist unfortunately remains the only game in town and the problem is that craigslist is run by management that abuses many of those who post or disagree with them.
Google Checkout requires credit card registration and that is why I eliminated it from my list of possible craiglist alternatives.
I do not want to give my phone number to craigslist or ebay because they are for profit companies that seem to have no problem abusing and discriminating people and using my information for their benefit.
backpage.com is just as bad as craigslist.com.
There really is no "alternative" to CL yet but maybe one day!
Final list of johnjustice recommended craigslist "alternatives":
a) ebay classifieds

All four alternatives above make it easy and fast to post an ad online. I will wait and see if I get any responses to see about their effectiveness.
Oodle.com wants to force you (or strongly encourage you) to sign up for Facebook. That is not cool.
Because if you are not a Facebook customer then you are "not verified" lol.
Other "alternatives"; are recycler.com and guess what "ebay classifieds"; yes the same ebay that owns 25 percent of craigslist.
Also I found a connection between ICANN, the group that sets internet domain policy (.org, .com etc) and Craigslist. Esther Dyson, ICANN's founding chairman, and Craig Newmark, Craigslist founder, sit on the board of a foundation, the "Sunlight Foundation".
www.oodle.com seems like a competitor to Craigslist that has a big enough size to compete. I am looking into any viable competitors to Craigslist. I am not affiliated with oodle.com and I would rather find an alternative to both Craigslist and Oodle given the fact that Oodle is affiliated with Facebook.
Other Craigslist alternatives are pennysaverusa.com (small reach but loyal followers in US and India); backpage.com; and Google Checkout.
None of the alternatives to Craigslist come even close to Craigslist reach but by posting an ad at the same time on

Pennysaverusa.com seems to have a very strong brand like Craigslist. Google should probably buy pennysaverusa.com or Walmart should.
Not to mention the ton of email spam that I get every time I post on craigslist.
Also, Craigslist is a well-masked scam. Since Ebay bought their stake; things have gone downhill.
