East Coast Danes great dane breeding

I submitted a deposit for a Great Dane puppy on January 22nd 2019. I received a response from the business owner stating "i just wanted to let you know that i got your venmo payment today. i have to get the puppy baths done today, get their bags done and all their paper work done so if i don't get a chance to get that contract out to you today it'll be tomorrow. " I followed up with an email on 2/2/2019, 2/6/2019 and again on 2/21/2019 asking for an update on when I would receive a contract stating that I sent a deposit. I received no response until she sent out a group email on 2/24/2019 which stated the following: good evening everyone,

"just wanted to send a quick email out to you all that have deposits for this year. i have been away from my email for a few weeks, literally it has been one thing after another. first my son was sick with the flu the weekend after our last litter went home, he was admitted into the hospital by the second day and stayed the night, it hit him really hard. the day after he came home i came down with it and i have never been hit with anything so atrocious in my life. i was so dehydrated by the end of the first night that i too ended up in the hospital. released the next day i swear i got more sick in the hospital because later on that day i came down with a nasty head cold. it's been 3 weeks and i just had my first real meal on friday and have started to feel normal again. the nausea has been so intense with the flu, left me with no appetite and when i did finally start to feel like eating the thought of actually eating made me nauseous. in between this our septic system leach field collapsed and we had to have another one put in, roof sprung a leak...just one thing after another. but i have had severe migraines from the nausea pills they had me on and couldn't drive at all, never mind even look at my computer screen they were that bad. only good thing was thank god i wasn't this sick when having a litter of puppies, keith helps out tremendously with things at home and with alex and stuff, thankfully he never got sick, but with having 10 or so puppies in the mix it would have been interesting :-).
so since feeling myself on friday i had to really catch up on a lot of things around here and am now getting a chance to get to my email. i haven't even read any yet as i'm sure some of you have probably reached out, i wanted to get with my deposit people first thing. i know a couple of you were waiting for contracts for your deposits, i plan on doing those tomorrow after i get some ink for my printer. our 2 blue girls haven't come into heat yet, i was thinking marchish and they seem to be right on target. they are starting their little prancing/flirting game with the boys they start to do usually a month or so before they come in and a few of my other girls are humping them so i know it'll be coming up in a bit.
so i just wanted to email everyone and let you know what has been going on the past few weeks and please feel free to email with any questions and i apologize for not communicating sooner. with not having puppies waiting to go to homes, email wasn't a very pressing matter but of course now i have over 300 to go through :-). i'll be sure to get those last 2 remaining contracts out tomorrow after i get my errands done and grab some more ink.

Lori"
On 2/25 I received a contract stating I had in fact put a security deposit in the amount of $300.00 and I would be assured a spot in the next litter.

Prior to engaging in submitting a deposit I had asked when the litter would have puppies available. her response was the following

"gestation is about 62 days, but can run about 8 days at the longest then it's 8 weeks after that, that they can start going home. so that would bring pups about the 3rd-4th week of may to go home."

So if I am to believe the above information above, the dog would have been bred the first week of February and have given birth already. I had not heard from Lori regarding whether a pregnancy had occurred and out of both excitement, and the desire to plan ahead for the potential arrival of a new family member, I reached out to Lori on April 1st, 4th and again on the 8th by both email and telephone asking for some sort of update. to date, my attempts to contact her have gone unanswered. I sent an email on the 9th requesting that my deposit be returned. I am simply no longer comfortable purchasing an animal from somebody who lacks the professionalism to return an email or telephone call. I followed up again with her yesterday April 23rd and advised her that I would be contacting BBB and issuing appropriate reviews . Unless it is out of date, her website seems to indicate that puppies have recently been delivered. I'm not sure where my deposit has gone to, but I am left to assume that due to lack of response, my money has not gone towards the funding of a breeding, so the money should be able to be returned.

Do not do business with this person.

East Coast Danes issues with complaints

We at East Coast Danes continue to strive for excellence daily, being that we have been a small family breeder for going on 17 years now, and our dogs are a big part of our family. As to the complaints on this site...our babies come with a 100% genetic guarantee in our contract that is very clearly outlined. The contract and guarantee is made available to view throughout the purchase process. This along with the availability of continued advice and support for the lifetime of the puppy you purchase is second to none.
Yes, we do have 2 residences; one n Massachusetts where I have resided for 39 years, and one in South Carolina that we purchased back in 2012. Starting out as just a winter home for us and the dogs, we did decide to stay here where both of my parents have had stage 4 cancer. With mom passing away in December of 2014, we are still now caring for dad who is in a wheelchair and on oxygen. As this is our primary residence now, we do still own our property in Massachusetts and are there a minimum of every 2-3 months, as all of our friends and family and property are there.
We NEVER ship our puppies by airline or personal transporter. We personally deliver all of our babies to their new homes in the Northeast to insure a proper fit for both the puppy and new prospective owners. Our puppies best interest is always first and foremost the most important thing and only entrust ourselves to care for them until they are in their new homes.
Also in our contract, for ANY reason at all throughout your puppies life that you purchase from us, if you need to give them up for any reason at all, they are to come back to us and not be rehomed, brought to a shelter/rescue group or given away to a family member. This is a practice of any good breeder, to be responsible for their puppies and take them back if needed and we back this up 100%. Thankfully in 17 years, we have only had to take back 3 dogs due to family situations changing and not being able to care for their dogs anymore but we ALWAYS take them back.
Please visit our site that is currently in the process of being updated and feel free to contact us with any questions a needed.

Thank you,
Lori Palmer and Edmund Opozda, www.eastcoastdanes.com [protected] email: [protected]@yahoo.com

East Coast Danes Took Deposit under false pretense and refuses to return

I first contacted Lori in October regarding a Great Dane Puppy. I was specifically looking for a breeder in Massachusetts where I live. She portrayed herself to live here, but at the time said that she was temporarily in South Carolina caring for her ailing mother. I did not end up purchasing from the litter in October but did put in a deposit for fist pick on an early 2015 litter.

In early January I checked her website and she had a new litter up (that she had not told me about) so I contacted her. I wanted to see the litter and make a pick in person. At that time she let me know that she was still in South Carolina so I could not see the puppies. Between that, and several other issues, I ended up just getting a bad feeling, which is my right as I had not signed a contract of any type. I decided to forgo my deposit ($300) and go with my gut and get a puppy from a breeder I trusted. I will admit that I was not 100% honest with her as to the reason I decided to not purchase a puppy from her, but I didn't feel that saying "I don't trust you" was appropriate.

After doing more research I did come to find that Lori does not currently live in Massachusetts, nor has she for over 18 months. She does still own a home here, but she is not residing there/There was no intention of having a litter of puppies here. When I found this out I did ask her to refund my deposit as I feel she took it under false pretense and misrepresented her location, which was a major deciding factor for me. Her response was a rant, nasty and totally unprofessional, and, although it went on tangents about a number of different issues, it never actually addressed the information she provided when she took my deposit.

I really want to be clear: I am making no comment as to her dogs, breedings, conditions or anything else. I have tried to contact her to resolve this.

I was 100% ready to give up my deposit, for my own piece of mind, until I realized that she was not truthful about what I was putting a deposit on. The $300 is not what concerns me, and I want to be clear-this is not about the money-I was willing to give that up. If any of her responses had been professional or not just plain nasty I would NEVER have posted this, but not in any of the ranting, aggressive emails that she sent did she every directly address my request for the return of my deposit. I am happy to answer questions about my experience or share her correspondences with me directly with anyone interested. Please contact me at kbliss.[protected]@gmail.com

I am now being harassed by Lori's partner/husband who even went so far as to send a copy of her mother's death certificate. I had provided options:1. Return my depost, 2. Provide a copy of a 2014 kennel license in MA that would show I was wrong and East Coast Danes is really in MA or 3. Change the listing information to reflect her actual address so she is not misleading anyone else. He has refused all 3 and said that he "knows better how to deal with these situations" then I do. I have asked him 3 times to stop contacting me unless he is providing one of the 3 above options-which seem pretty reasonable to me, he continues to contact me suggesting that he has tried to deal with me. They are providing fraudulent information and I have tried my best to be reasonable with him, but he does not see that having a website and providing information that is not knowingly not true and not disclosing it is fraud. I feel that, especially when buying a puppy which is emotional and exciting for a lot of people, they should not be mislead like this which is why I pursuing it.

I just wanted to post these two photos, showing that it is true. One is a Google search for MA Great Dane breeder-under which Lori Palmers East Coast Danes comes up #2 and the second is HER OWN POSTING from 2012 stating that she had just moved to SC and that she would need a dog sitter several times a year. She is lying about where she lives and breeds her dogs. To what end I couldn't tell you. But if she is lying about that what else is she lying about. I'm so glad I didn't get a dog from her.

I am now going through the exact same thing. I sent a deposit in January and the check was cashed soon after. I reached out to Lori in March to see what the next steps would be as I am new to this. I then emailed again and again and again and again and... made a couple of phone calls asking for information too. Everything has gone unanswered. I even went as far as to fill out another application looking for information. There is pictures on the site now that the dog is pregnant and due later this month. Still no information from her. I also asked where she was located in December of 2017 she stated fairhaven Ma. The ultrasound is from a vet in Carolina. It is a shame that business needs to be done this way. All I want is a little information or tell me to get lost and give me my deposit back. It has been 5 months

In reference to Miss Kaamala's(sp?) deposit complaint...AND Lori Zoeller's(sp.?) Wobbler's complaint... We purchased our beloved Harlequin Great Dane from Lori and East Coast Danes in early November of 2009, after at least 2-3 years of research. Lori Palmer, if you're reading this, it was Heidi, with the heart-shaped spot on her head, who chose us that day. We changed her name to Daisy. Our sweet, AKC East Coast America's Beautiful Princess Wildflower, part of her name in reference to her mother American Beauty and father Prince. We remember very well the whole contract process, including the deposit process. We never felt "mislead". Ms. Palmer was very thorough and organized about everything. She was also very kind and helpful with any and all questions that we had concerning genetic things, care and feeding, and just general Great Dane raising. With her answers and advice we are proud and happy to say that we have raised a very "Precious Princess".
Two months after bringing Daisy home, I found out I was pregnant. Our son was born three days and one year after Daisy was born. They have had the thrill of growing up together. Now at 4(our son) and 5 years old(Daisy), they are great companions. Our son loves his "sister", and Daisy loves her "brother". She's so gentle with him, but loves to rough-house(gently), too! She is such a part of the family, as we're a part of her "pack", and we love her dearly! She even sleeps in our bed with us. We wouldn't have it any other way :)
Just today, while out on a trail with a family member and her two boxers(Daisy's "cousins"), our beloved Daisy collapsed, from what we thought may had been overexertion or overheating...she's very active with the two boxers and we had been out for about an hour. We called our vet immediately, in a slight panic. After about half an hour, and pouring water on her and comforting her, she rose to walk very slowly back to our vehicle, which was about 1/10 of a mile away. My husband picked her up, all 130 lbs. of her, and put her in the vehicle. We drove home, she seemed to be slowly getting better. We called the vet back and mentioned she was doing better, but they still wanted to see her asap. So we brought her and, after an abnormal EKG/ECG, were advised to let her stay overnight for more testing and observation. We were told that an x-ray showed that her heart was enlarged, that it may be heart disease. We are crushed, but also know she is in the best hands possible. We did receive a call saying that her blood work came back good, no problems there. They're doing an ultrasound tomorrow, so we'll have more news then.
In no way at all, would we EVER even think about holding East Coast Danes responsible. They and their dogs had nothing to do with this. They(the vets) say it COULD be a genetic thing(OR NOT), but it's a predisposed genetic thing...just like Wobbler's. These things can be common in many large breed dogs, such as, but not limited to: Great Danes, Dobermans, German Shepherds, even Labrador Retrievers...just to name a few. It's not necessarily the breeders' faults; I mean, come on people!, they're not going to knowingly breed a dog that shows signs of these predispositions! Quite frankly, it's all just God's will...or if you're not religious, just a random unfortunate thing! Every dog, and even cats, and other animals..just like humans..have a chance in life of having some sort of disorder or ailment, if you will. It's just the luck of the draw.
Life is precious! We believe that, no matter what happens in life, we should always enjoy and CHERISH all the time that we have together. And if a loved one is having a tough time, just love them and help them as best you can. Don't go blaming others for what has always been in God's hands to begin with.
Lori Palmer, we're so sorry to hear of your woes as of late, and also wish you congratulations and the best of times with your baby!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, Lori Palmer, for blessing us with one of the best unconditional loves ever, the companionship of a devoted and loyal dog.

East Coast Danes Bad Breeder

Do not buy a Great Dane from this breeder. I bought a male great dane from Lori in 2010. He had all kinds of physical problems. 4 eye surgeries for "cherry eye", in both eyes and dog needed to be put down at 18 months due to incredible suffering and pain from Wobbler's Disease. I have never written a complaint in my life but after reading the other complaint about East Coast Danes from 2012, for some of the same things, I had to write something. I loved this dog very much and to look at he was beautiful however there was nothing we could do for him and all the vet's I spoke with recommended putting him down. When I called Lori she wanted nothing to do with the situation. Bad lines in these danes...stay away from this breeder!

Lori, I have all the medical receipts and records to prove what I am saying. I did not bother to contact you, what exactly were you going to do for poor Mogli? I do remember that I mentioned the Cherry eye to you and you acted like it was incredibly unusual and you had NEVER had another dane puppy experience it. YOU ARE THE LIAR!
I don't care if your dogs are covered, I didn't care about the money, I cared about the dog. You should STOP breeding and if at any time you would like to see a copy of this dogs health record, please by all means, contact me and I will release them.

We were blessed with our East Coast's Beautiful American Princess Wildflower (Daisy) in the first week of November 2009. Our East Coast Dane is now 6 years in age. Daisy was diagnosed in late April 2015 as having Advanced Dilated Cardiomyopathy (Adv. DCM). Our precious Daisy actually had a heart attack, after over an hour of being out on a trail with her two boxer "cousins", exerting herself to full capacity. Our beloved family member, Daisy, is doing well now, on a combination of daily meds. We are fully aware that she could pass from sudden death at any time. Knowing that, we are willingly prepared, should it happen while Daisy is happy being a dog, doing dog things like running, swimming and playing. From a medical standpoint she should remain calm, but come on, from a dog lover's standpoint, we believe Daisy should be able to enjoy all the dog things she likes to do. And when it happens, we'll all be crushed. But we'll also know that she was very happy.
Our vet made us very aware that many large breed dogs, including, but not limited to, Great Danes, Rottweilers, German Shepherd Dogs, Dobermans Pinschers, Boxers and even Golden Retrievers can be predisposed, OR NOT, to this heart condition. It's not your breeders fault, unless they knowingly bred a dog with that condition. And why..I ask you.. Why WOULD a breeder knowingly breed dogs that are affected in any way? It just doesn't make sense. Lori Palmer was none other than a caring, knowledgeable, and professional breeder that told us EVERYTHING we needed to know about Great Danes, BEFORE we decided to move forward. She even told us about the common ailments, like acne, hip dysplasia, and bloat/torsion, and the more scary diseases, like Wobbler's and heart disease. AND, she DOES offer a Health Guarantee. You had the opportunity to take that into accord. If you chose not to take advantage of that, then you really have no right to slander her and her company.
You can't blame her for what God already has in store. It's just like people. We are ALL predisposed, OR NOT, to some type of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. Whether or not you're going to get sick is not your parents'(your physiological breeder's) faults. Would you really blame them if you got cancer?! It's just the luck of the draw.
You, Lori Zoellner, should just be grateful for the time you were able to spend with your precious Dane. It's so unfortunate that Mogli, left your presence so soon. I am truly sorry for your separation. I, as well, would be absolutely devastated. However, I am a true believer in God's will and that things fatefully happen. AND, that we will all meet again someday, in heaven. To the non-believers, I guess you can just call it "unfortunate, untimely events". It's just the way things happen. May Mogli run, jump, swim, play, and rest, in peace. May you, Ms. Zoellner, find comfort and peace in the memories that you and Mogli made together.

Lori, i had no idea you ever had any issues with this puppy...why not contact me directly? you NEVER EVER EVER contacted me what so ever regarding this issue so please do not lie! i had you on my FB page and everything and not one mention about the health issues. i have a health guarantee in my contract and nothing was ever said to me and yet again someone runs to complaint board to voice their opinion rather than contact me to get anything resolved. wobblers is a known condition that can happen with ANY dane but if you choose not to exercise your right to the health guarantee in our contract, how am i to know there was an issue?
ANYONE...PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT OUR DOGS ARE COVERED 100% IN OUR CONTRACT AND AS I STATED ABOVE IF I AM NOT NOTIFIED OF ISSUES THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO. PEOPLE LIKE THIS THAT LIKE TO SLAM PEOPLE IN PUBLIC FORUMS...I GOT NOTHING.

East Coast Danes Bad Breeder

Deceptive and Irresponsible Breeder. Sold us a Great Dane Pup that in 19 months has proven to be a genetic train wreck. The dog has had four surgeries on his eyes for Entropian and Everted Third Eye Lid and now needs a fifth in order to be able to see out of his right eye. The dog also needs a surgery to repair blocked anal sacs and an infection. The dog also has multiple personality phobias.

Lori Palmer has not assumed any responsibility for any of this. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY FROM LORI PALMER! She is a scammer and a thief and she is detrimental to The Great Dane Breed.

I agree with this post completely! Bought a dane puppy from Lori in 2010. Puppy was a genetic mess. three surgeries on his eyes to correct "cherry eye" not in just one but in both eyes! Dog had "wobbles" and after spending huge amounts of money and taking him to the NY Animal Medical Center in NYC to make sure we had the very best surgeons, dr.'s, etc, we had to put Mogli down. Hardest thing I've ever had to do, loved the dog more than any other I've ever had but would NEVER buy another one. Lori Palmer is a disgrace to Great Danes and should not be allowed to breed.
