EF Educational Tours tourtrip booked 2 years ahead is non-refundable.

My daughter is with the army cadets and they had booked a trip with EF Tours for 2017. They required a $199.00 deposit and then $500.00 every few months or so. I had paid the $500.00 first payment so my total payments so far was $699.00. I then found out that my parents who are 77 an 78 are very sick so we needed to move closer to them. I am in Edmonton and they are in Toronto. I am uplifting my family's whole life to move closer to my parents so I needed to cancel the trip with EF Tours for my daughter from her cadet corp.
I was told that the $199.00 was non-refundable, there is a $400.00 cancellation fee, and a $149.00 insurance fee. On top of that I was charged a $94.00 late fee for missing the second $500.00 payment. So I would end up owing then $49.00 to cancel the trip.

We are having similar problems with EFtours right now. Our daughter was recruited and sold this tour by her teacher. Our daughter was very hesitant because the other students were all from a school in another state, the teachers former place of employment. But the teacher reassured both our daughter and us that she would be with her every step of the tour and available 24/7 if need be. So we signed up for the trip in the fall of 2015, for a trip to Italy and Greece June 2016. Yesterday our daughter came home and told us the teacher was no longer going due to "personal issues." With the conditions of the trip now radically changed, namely the teacher who had personally assured us she would be there for our daughter no longer participating, leaving our 15 year old daughter to travel with people she has never met before, we felt we should get a refund. Come to find out that all fees are non-refundable as is 50% of the actual fee cost. EFtours are citing their rules and treating this as a cancellation even though they changed the conditions of the contract, they say that they do not deal with oral agreements, we're unsure of how a company can just say that we don't agree with parts of contract law and therefore are not bound by it. They also claim that the teacher, who was the sole soliciting and sales agent for this tour, have no affiliation to them or there company. Again that seems impossible since she solicits and recruits students for their company in return for which she receives benefits. If she acts as an agent for them they also have to be responsible for her actions.

EF Educational Tours refusal to refund trip price after paris terrorist attacks.

Repeated calls to the EF customer service number have proved less than satisfactory. I was promised repeatedly that a manager or supervisor would call me back. No one has called. Our group frustration is growing and I insist on talking with a member of the EF management team. The Geneseo Central School trip to France and Spain (Tour# 1568492BW) did not take place due to the terrorist attacks in Paris. You may remember the events: On Friday night, terrorists with guns and suicide vests carried out coordinated attacks across Paris that left at least 129 people dead and more than 350 injured. The targets, including a cafe and a concert hall, were the types of places that travelers on a vacation or business trip might visit. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attacks. (http://www.irondequoitpost.com/article/ZZ/20151115/NEWS/151119907) Seven Corners refuses to honor the insurance policy. Vouchers are not an option for the high school seniors. Refunds are appropriate and must be issued. At this point it appears EF tours is using the terrorist attacks in Paris to financially victimize our children. The platitudes and indeed outright lies of the front line customer service representatives as well as the deceptive, misleading EF promotional materials call into question the moral, ethical, and legal principles that EF management uses to operate the company. “EF is pleased to offer additional travel security to our customers to cover cancelation due to an act of terrorism or the threat of terrorism.” (EF Tours Enrollment Handbook p. 13) “We strongly advise all travelers to protect themselves on tour with the All-inclusive Insurance plan. “ (EF Tours Enrollment Handbook p. 10) Significantly, according to local print and broadcast news sources, other schools in our area using different travel companies had their trips canceled and received full refunds. http://www.whec.com/article/stories/s3965131.shtml Please have a member of the EF management team contact me at [protected].

EF Educational Tours misleading cancellation fees

I just cancelled my daughter's trip to France due to recent events and EF Tours was more than difficult to work with. Their hidden cancellation fees are absurd. I purchased the travel insurance but did you know that acts of terrorism are not a covered reason. Who in their right mind would send their child there considering what is happening in this messed up world? But the fact that my father has cancer is a covered reason to cancel. When you call in you are placed on hold for 20+ minutes...is there only two people answering the phone? EF Tours - you have lost my business and I will tell everyone how horrible your organization is to work with!

This company probably makes tons of money so why even think about keeping a single penney off your daughter's money. DESPICABLE..

I went through the same thing. My Daughter invested $1500. We canceled over 6 months in advance due to an unforeseen problem. However, it didn't fall into the "house burning down" category, and they stole my child's hard-earned money. They were heartless when I tried to explain the situation to them. My Daughter got an education in big business scams.

I agree with your frustration. I too cancelled the trip for my son to France. It is unacceptable that I stand to lose in excess of $1500.00. If you do not cancel within 24 hours of enrollment, you are pretty much unable to retrieve anything or nothing. This is a complete rip-off. They have no consideration for hard-working parents. However, I am a believer and the good lord above will handle this company accordingly. KARMA is worst than any post we could have put here!

EF Educational Tours cost vs product / service

I will start with positives: tour guide IRIS was great and we were able to see so many places from Barcelona to Nice to Monoco, Assisi, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Pompeii and Capri. Motor coach travel was comfortable. Entry into museums, etc was convenient - group entry was immediate with no wait. Negatives: Cost for family of 3 for 14 days (includint 2 days of travel) was 14, 400 U.S. dollars which would be fine if accommodations were better. Flight was economy. 9 hour flight in economy seating is uncomfortable. Travel was 24 hours each direction. First day of arrival, after 24 hours travel, were not allowed to check into room, shower or even brush teeth. We were forced to walk a mile to a train station for a ride into Barcelona for a 1.5 hour walking tour then a walk back to the train station for return trip to hotel with another mile walk from train station to hotel. Dinner that night was stewed chicken with potatoes and water to drink. After @ 38 hours between travel and trip to Barcelona my initial reaction was to return home and not finish the trip. However, I'm happy we stayed and completed the experience. Hotels were mostly awful budget grade and 40 minutes or more from the destination city. As a result much time was spent in route to each destination for daily activities. Rooms varied in cleanliness and AC if they worked were not adequate for summer heat (105 degrees July 2015) Food provided included breakfast and evening meal. All were ok but inexpensive options with chicken, potatoes or pasta. Wine and soda was extra cost. Best meal each day was lunch but this was paid by travelers so extra 800-1000 us dollars for 3 depending on your selection. Average was 15 - 20 per lunch per person. We walked an average of 7-8 miles per day which was difficult in heat. We were rushed and not allowed a relaxed pace necessary to appreciate each location. I will return to Italy at some point but not with EF. With group tour your day is scheduled and you are not able to make any decisions regarding when you wake, when and what you eat (except lunch) where you stay or when and how long you sleep. With group I understand need for schedule but there was no flexibility regardless of situation.

EF Educational Tours Would not refund all money paid so far on student trip my granddaughter was going to take

Daughter called to cancel granddaughters reservation fir a trip by EDUCATION FIRST TOURS. Scheduled for june 2016 as part of language arts classes.. Had paid almost $700 so far, EF TOUR CONSULTANT told her she could only get 399 back, she would lose $300.00! Reading info on this group made me determined to add complaint about this "company" and poor business practices, fine print and scam if not a better choice for what they appear to be doing with the group if HS students... would like input from others who have experienced similar scenarios.

My daughter signed up for a school trip with EF. Unfortunately the trip did not have the minimum number of travelers and was cancelled. I called the company to get a refund and I was told they were keeping $274 ($95 as a deposit and another $179 for the cancellation). I did not cancel the trip yet EF will not give me a refund and will not let my apply this money toward another trip. This (based on other reviews posted) seems to be very common with this company -- BEWARE! In fact, I discovered that EF continued to take money directly from my account AFTER the school notified them that the trip was canceled. EF was told the trip was not happening yet they continued to take money directly from my account. Seems like there should be a class action lawsuit against this company for all of this stolen money.

My grand daughter and I also scheduled a tour to Europe in June of 2016. We paid for the entire trip, plus the insurance and one time $95 registration fee. When the terror attacks in Paris happened, we were concerned, then the bombing at the airport and subway in Brussels and we decided that we did not feel comfortable or safe about going. The State Department has issued an ALERT, for American traveling to Europe between March 2015 and June 2015.
I emailed EF on March 24, 2015 and told them of our concerns and asked what would happen if we were to cancel at that time we were 73 days away from the start of our trip . I got no respondS! I sent an email to our group leader who is a teacher at Eaton High School, expressing our concerns. She was still waiting to hear back from someone named Maria for EF Tours, and promised to get back with me promptly. I then called EF Tours, where I was informed, that we would only get back 50% of the tour cost, less the non-refundable insurance fee, registration fee and the extras that we were charged. We paid almost $8, 500 for this trip and they will refund us at total of $4, 295 ! I too mentioned the safety of children traveling to that region, they went on to say it was just an Alert, not a Warning ... they said it was like a tornado warning verses a tornado watch ! They told me they wouldn't send children to places that had a Warning, but that an Alert just means that travelers should be alert of their surrounding while traveling. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE WELL BEING TO THE PEOPLE WHO TAKE THEIR TOURS! THEY DO NOT CARE HOW HARD THE STUDENTS OR THEIR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WORK TO EARN MONEY FOR THESE TOURS, ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IT THE ALMIGHTY $$$$$. Perhaps it time someone starts a Class Action Suit against EF Tours. With the current situation in Europe and the threats for more bombings from ISIS, who would want to have their child in that region of the world!

My daughter was booked for March 2016, but after reading more on Costa Rica and the travel alert that came out March 2015, we decided not to send our daughter and cancel. We are the first of 4 families to cancel but kicker is, we were all told by guide teacher that we can cancel at anytime and receive all but our $95 registration fee. So we call eftours and to our surprise, with over 100 days left before travel, we were being charged $750 cancellation fee. The $95, the $155 insurance, and $500 cancellation fee. So we immediately call our guide teacher who once again says, "that's not right, you gonna get a full refund minus the $95." She calls who she booked trip with, EF tour rep Lindsey, and calls us back and breaks the bad news. Yeah, with over a 100 days before trip, we will lose $750 of the $1300 we paid. So that was yesterday. Today we get a call from eftours rep Leo, asking us if we wanna cancel because if we wait another 4 days, we lose all $1300. Lesson learned about EF tour companies, and guides.

I had a similar situation. My daughter enrolled to go to Italy June 2016. We paid the initial $250, which included a non-refundable $95 booking fee and the $155 travel insurance fee which was required. I signed up for the flexible payment plan option which came with no stipulations when we signed up online. I then receive a statement for another $500 and s $95 late fee. I called the 800 number and a gentleman told me that he would waive the $95 late fee, but that I needed to pay the $500 in two days. Reluctantly, I made the payment. Three weeks later my daughter started getting very nervous to travel abroad and told me to cancel. Again, I called the 800 number and the lady told me that I lost the original $250, which I understand, but she was also going to keep another $300 for canceling. Becoming furious, I asked her to show me proof my daughter actually had plane and hotel reservations booked, and she couldn't verify anything. She just assured me they put in a lot of hours of work on her reservation. Now I know why they pushed me to pay the additional $500 because right then, that covered the $300 cancellation fee that they will never return. There are stories of successful trips, but once they get your money they want to keep it all no matter what. I'm sure I am not the only parent whose teen at first thinks international travel is a great idea, and then becomes afraid of actually leaving the country. They count on this and make no provisions for this type of occurrence.

Yes, EF charges a cancellation fee. All the other companies do, as far as I know. You also lose the $95 enrollment fee, which is nonrefundable from the moment you enroll. But all of these terms are clearly spelled out in the Enrollment Handbook your son/daughter should bring home, and it's all clearly set forth on the EF Tours website when you enroll. If you or the teacher are able to find a student to serve as a replacement, you are not charged the $250 cancellation fee. As always, it's important to read the terms of any agreement if you're entering into a financial relationship with a company.

EF Educational Tours irregular charges/ insurance fraud

our connecting flight in europe was missed and alternate cheaper transport arranged(much cheaper)...no refunds offered. also same time our luggage was lost ...no one recieved any compensation from effekta and everyone who tried were scammed. This tour company are proffesional con artists. once you get talked into paying "upfront" so they lock you in, the changes and add ons come including "WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND" the extra insurance...lol we had the worst case scenario arise and they(ef and effekta) were no where to be found! no support and no help. once you leave your on your own..tour guides cannot and will not help you. We tried every day to get in contact with anyone...to no avail. Once we were home ef were next to impossible to contact and all massages to call back are ignored.

EF Educational Tours cancellation policy scam/liars!!

This company is nothing but a big scam! I was mislead from the very beginning. I was told that there of no cancellations fees and would receive a full refund except for the $95.00 non-refundable deposit by the group leader. She also said that there were no late fees, only that the payment will just be higher by the end of the payment period payoff. Now when I call to cancel they are telling me I have to pay the non-refundable $95 along with $500 cancellation fee and $155 insurance fee. That's a total of $750 that I am losing out because the group leader failed to tell me the truth. When I call all they can say is that the group leader has been doing this for years and she would have never said any of this and I must of misunderstood what she said. I know for a fact that I would of remember a $500 cancellation fee. They are just liars and I will keep making people aware of the type of crooked business that they are running.

EF Educational Tours buyer beware if disabled

After months of telling EF that I would be coming on tour in a wheelchair and with a walker, they said ok and they would make it work out. I might have to take taxis and I was financially ready for any additional charges. I received a phone call the day before departure from an EF manager who questioned me for over an hour discussing my attitude, willingness to take multiple taxis, and understanding of what would be expected of me. He was satisfied with my answers and my plan for who would be helping me.

Now we are on tour and now EF is concerned I might fall and they want me to be safe (we don't want you to fall as sue us) so the manager calls me back and now my plan wasn't ok and they were so concerned with my health. Despite pre-tour approval now it wasn't ok and the manager told me I would have to go home.

My Girl Scout troop was hurt and very angry. What a great experience for them after working three years to earn the money to go on tour.

I am not saying don't use EF, just beware that they don't honor what they say and they are not friendly for disabled people... Wonder why the ADA doesn't look into their practices.

EF Educational Tours never again - criminal

The whole tour was cheaply done, the tour guide was worthless educationally, the food and hotels were disgusting and the kids did not get to see much! The hotels were 40-60 minutes outside of the cities so too much time was wasted commuting by public transportation. The hotels were 1 star at best (one was a youth hostel) and two of the 4 hotels did not have phones in the rooms. Security issue if the kids need help. The hostels food in Florence was not fit for animals...Day old bread, rock hard croissants and some form of Tang served as orange juice. My room had a hole in the wall that went to the outside that was stuffed with newspaper. Both my hands could fit thru the hole. Our tour guide gave us information for about an hour just one day on the bus during our 15 day tour. NON educational! Most sites were not seen...David in Florence was missed...our tour guide informed us that the replica was good enough...We missed going up the Leaning Tower of Pisa since they took too long showing us another Church and Baptistry...the tour guide informed me that no one comes to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa...Galileo"s Museum was missed too. We ended up with only 1/2 a day in Florence since the other half was spent wasting our time in Pisa. Very disappointed since the itinerary stated that we would have 2 days there. We were never informed that a bus would be our form of transportation from Paris all the way to Rome. Way too much time was wasted on the cramped bus just traveling. On average, 1-2 churches a day were seen. This is due to the fact that churches are free. As beautiful as they are, I did not travel all that way to see 1-3 churches a day...rather than artwork and sites. No one could pay me enough to send another child of mine on a tour with this company. Just criminal what was missed!

I just returned from a 8 day Costa Rica tour and had the worse experience of my life! The accommodations and meals were disgusting! We went to park after park because they were free. In the hotels, there were roaches, ants, animal feces, and cold water. The food was minimal and the choices were non-existent. For example, we were offered spaghetti with two toppings. No fruit, no vegetables, no bread. The server made fun of an overweight boy who asked for another helping. The tour guide offered "additional" excursions like a "walk to town" for $20 each. He also brought in his friend to teach us salsa dancing and told us we needed to pay his friend. I have lived in Turkey and taken 6 trips to underdeveloped countries. This was unreal. EF Tours is a BUSINESS! They are in the business of maximizing profits and minimizing costs. I saw it every single day that I was on that trip with my son, niece, and nephew. I will NEVER use them again and will tell everyone to research and choose a better tour company. I could go on an on about the trip, but feel that there is no need.

I'm not sure how recently you took this tour with EF but I have been taking tours for many years with my students and have never experienced anything like what you have mentioned. It seems that you may not have informed your tour director about your concerns so that your representatives could help you solve these problems, or you may be fabricating the depth of what you experienced. This is a company that caters to middle and high school students, and I'm confident in saying that you did not prepare yourself or your group well enough for the intricacies involved with traveling internationally. If this is your first time out of the country I would understand slightly, but if you have ever traveled before you should be aware of the need to go with the flow in the event that every mode of transport does not arrive on time.

EF Educational Tours cancellation policy

We made payments on a trip to Europe for two of my daughters. We purchased trip insurance on both plans. We were nearly paid in full when we became aware that our daughters couldn't go. The bottom line: You will only get a small portion of your money back if you decide to cancel. They will hold that small refund forever. EVEN WITH CANCELLATION INSURANCE! Without a death certificate or proof of unemployment you will be told to pound sand. Don't trust this company.

EF Educational Tours awful comapny

Just returned from 10 day EF Tours student trip to Europe. Paid over $3, 000 for a walking tour with no attractions. This company is a scam. They promise a tour of Paris and don't even take us to the Eiffel Tower. Just walked around for 2 hours and left Paris. They put us up in a $20 per nite motel that was less than 1 star and bused us 3 hours each way to town only to go shopping in the slums. This company is only about profits. Stay away. Check out other reviews and you will see similar problems. What a waste of time and money.

My daughter is having the same experience! So disappointing! Tour group leaders go for free so they evidently don't care about a quality experience- ever! I love Paris, so I knew when this thing published the itinerary, the highlight would be the walking tour of Pigalle! Getting pics on FaceTime in real time. Absolutely despicable for the inexperienced or first-timers. Go to disney-Paris and move on to areas so isolated, they can't ruin it...unless u have issues with spending 1/3 of your vacation in an uncomfortable bus with kids who don't bathe? Ugh!

My daughter was scheduled for a trip next summer and we paid everything upfront. Because of several reasons we had to cancel. We had travel insurance sold to us for any reason at all cancellation we were assured. We lost $300 from EF and another $300 from AETNA student travel insurance. Both companies are a scam to get people paid up in full with the blah blah about it is not a problem if something comes up because you are insured etc. DON'T BELIEVE EITHER COMPANY. THEY LIE!

EF Educational Tours tour of paris

We just returned from a school tour with high school students. We had Atwood day delay leaving the. States. EFTours sent a bus to take us back home and then sent a bus, which was only big enough for half of our group. After 45 minutes of. Conversing with. Someone from EF. Several parents. Volunteered to drive the remaining 10 back down to Indy. We made our flight and then had to spend 8 hours waiting to flay to Paris. We arrived exhausted and excited. We were taken by bus to our hotel, given minutes to take our stuff to our room, and then back to lobby. We then hiked about. 2 miles to the metro, changed stations several times (involved many stairs both up and down) then into Paris to Notre Dame cut the massive line and given 30 minutes for lunch. All of this 'travel' was accomplished at break neck speed that was so fast that you could not even take a picture lest you loose sight of the group and are lost in Paris. We then RAN thru the left bank to take ascenic boat cruise to the Eiffel tower and back! Then on to the louvre for several hours. The museum was packed and even hotter than outside. At our appointed time we were then run over to the Opera house to wait more than half an hour for the other half of our group. Then on to a terrible dinner of lettuce and fried potatoes! We asked to take a taxi back because we were exhausted and were told that it was impossible as the taxis would all be busy till 9 and that it would be too expensive! We dragged back the same way that that we had come and arrived back around 9:30 and wer told we had an early wake up and would have a sack breakfast for the bus.

I had terrible leg cramps that were. So painful that I was trembling as my husband desperately tried to help me by wrapping my legs in cold wet towels. I the morning we bot had massive red rash like blotches on our legs...broken blood vessels. Thankfully we did not have as much fast hiking this day.

After talking with several others fellow travelers they also never wanted to go back to Paris and the possibility of returning at the end of our tour of south France left us asking to leave from Nice.

EF Educational Tours best price discount removed after booking

BEST PRICE DISCOUNT given at booking, removed 2 days later ?
Has anyone else seen this?

My stepdaughter was signed up for a Europe trip. She wanted my daughter (her stepsister) who to go with her on the tour. I looked at the price of $3146 and said that it was quite expensive to send them both, but I would check into it. I got on the EF website 8/10/11 and looked at the tour. Their website showed the tour with a “best price discount” of $570, and my daughter had been on a tour to DC last year so they offered a $50 repeat customer discount. The made the total price $2526. This seemed more affordable, so I called them to double check on the $50 repeat customer discount and clicked confirm while they were on the phone and they verbally confirmed that it was booked. Of course the girls were ecstatic that they could go to Europe together!

This morning I get an email from EF saying that my monthly payment had changed. I logged on to look and my payment had gone from $458/month to $572/month. I looked into it further and the $570 discount was gone and they had me paying the full $3146. I called them to resolve it, they called back and said that the discount shown before was a “computer glitch” and that they would not honor the price I had confirmed with them, or give me any concession whatsoever for their mistake. I tried to speak to a manager, but they would not let me.

I find this very hard to believe that an ethical company would do this. If it was truly a “computer glitch” I would have expected the sales lady to tell me something was wrong when I confirmed the tour while she was on the phone. Now I’m in a position where I have to severely disappoint my girls and cancel the tour, or pay EF the extra $570. I would not have signed my daughter up under the full price because it is so expensive to send them both. Now that she was planning to go, it seems quite unfair to cancel it.

Has anyone else seen the "best price" discount on any of their tours? I would like to know if this is a regular practice?

The original quote that you were provided with of $3, 146 is the correct price for the 13 day tour to Germany, Italy and Switzerland with Kristen Mackenzie. I sincerely apologize for the frustration you have experienced by being affected by the unfortunate system glitch we experienced last week. As Jean-Paul in our Customer Service Department explained, the issue that we experienced with our pricing system caused the total charges of your account to temporarily show as $2, 576 ($570 less than the total charges for Kristen Mackenzie’s tour). Once identified, this mistake was quickly fixed and your account immediately updated with the correct pricing. All individuals enrolling in this tour are subject to the current cost of $3, 146, therefore, while I understand your frustration with this temporary system issue, unfortunately we cannot offer you the $570 discount that you are requesting.

However, in an effort to keep your good faith with our company, I have increased your daughters Repeat Traveler discount to $100. I understand that this is not the resolution you have requested, but I hope that this gesture will reassure your confidence in our company. EF Educational Tours Fraud / hidden fees

I booked a trip for my son and paid for it over a year ago... I recently logged on to pay for additional "departure fees" and learned that the trip I had payed for had been changed - with no notice. My son is now going on a shorter trip with different departure dates for the same price... This is robbery! I contacted the company and after being on the phone with several people for 2 days I was told - there was nothing they could do, they did not know why the prices were the same, to basically it is not their problem. I was advised to write a letter!

This was very frustrating! I will make sure and tell all my friends about my experience with ef tours.

Thank you for your response. I do not have an issue with travel dates other than I should have been notified by EF tours and the school representative, but I was NOT.
I paid for this tour OVER a year ago, my issue is the price. I was quoted an amount which I paid for 10 days 4 locations. At the last minute, I learn that my son is going for fewer days and less locations.
I called your customer service department and spoke with John, Sarah#1, Sarah #2, Liz and Todd King all of who could not explain to me why my son was going for less days, less locations for the same amount of money. All I got from them except Liz Johnston who was very professional was; I can’t explain it to you . . . look at your itinerary, it’s not our responsibility, deal with the school representative. I spoke with your customer service representative for 2 days. I was yelled at, hung up on and placed on hold for over 10 minutes.
I could understand if I had not paid for the trip until this year . . . I would have no right to complain but I DID pay for the trip over a year ago and now I feel I am being robbed. I have never received interests on the money I paid you and that you have had for over a year.
You quoted me a price, which I paid . . . I was told that there may be additional departure fees which I paid, but you are not keeping your part of the bargain. Instead you book a shorter trip with fewer locations for the same price; I should be getting a refund. There is something very wrong with all this.

We paid in full and were sold a cancellation insurance policy for my son's trip through EF Explore who canceled the trips twice despite other people still traveling during this time. 2 years later my son no longer attends the school and EF only wants to offer a voucher for the full amount. They refunded all but $350 and told me directly that I would need to file a claim for all but the registration I paid them from Seven Corners and the policy amount for trip insurance for the $150. I filed a claim in early October. On October 20 I finally received a response they needed more information which was sent immediately. I did not get a response until I reached out on their Facebook post about their family game room with a ping pong table in mid January. They said Covid made things busy to promptly respond to claims (I think ping pong was the culprit) and they promptly denied they claim as fast as they took my money stating that the child no longer at the school qualified as a cancellation covered. They did not respond for months and when a review was left they responded with a denied claim and money not refunded is for work that we never received the benefits from. What I was told by EF was not what was sold to me. Between the coordinated effort between the two companies, they make the process as difficult as possible so you will give up. Do not use this company and save your money on the insurance.

I received the standard response back to a review requesting I send my info so they can explain the policy. They are ignoring that I was told one thing was covered when it is not. Both companies have received money for "work" and I have received ZERO benefit from it. We did not cancel the trip and this whole thing feels like a scam the Attorney General should review.

I have had a terrible experience with both Seven Corners and EF Tours. I have received the standard response for you to provide information for review and have already done that. I have already done that a couple of times and I will NOT be doing it again. I was sold a policy that was useless. We didn't cancel the trip. I will not be using either EF Tours or Seven Corners ever again.

This company is a RIP-OFF. My daughter's trip was cancelled to Puerto Rico, due to the situation going on. They are refusing to refund all of the money, they are keeping $750.00 dollars. Some parents and I, paid the insurance in which I don't mind losing but why keep $750.00 dollars. It's disgusting. I just read there's a Class Action Suit against this company. How can I get more information? Thank you.

My Daughter worked hard and saved her own money, had $1500 already invested in the company. Due to an issue with our immigration, she was unable to go. We let them know way in advance. In spite of this, they only returned $200 of my daughter's money. She had an educational tour in how big business can freely rip you off, and feel nothing in doing so. I tried to talk to them, explain that my child was already broken-hearted for missing the event, begging them to at least give her back half of her money. They claimed the tickets for the plane were already purchased, but would not tell me what airline. We found out they had not purchased the tickets yet. Do NOT get taken in by these people. Save your cash and just take your child on an educational trip.

I will add my name to the list of scammed families by EF Tours. We booked our daughter's trip to Italy through EF Tours in November. The tour leader, teacher who seems to be disorganized at best, sent an email in January that they would need to get additional students to go or the price would go up. We said what happens if we are unwilling to pay additional cost? He said not to worry, we would surely get the students. Then just a few weeks ago we were sent an email with the "opportunity" to switch to a different tour with additional days for less money except different dates which our daughter was unavailable. We emailed the tour leader to tell him this. He changed to that tour anyway with EF Tours. When we called to tell them we had to cancel since the dates changed, we were told we still had to pay the cancellation fee because the tour leader is allowed to change the dates at will. We feel defrauded. We have traveled extensively and have never experienced a tour company with such unscrupulous ethics. We have filed a complaint with the BBB. I wish I had found this page before we booked this trip for our daughter, it would have saved us a ton of money and aggravation.. Do Not Use EF Tours!

I have traveled with EF Tours years ago and absolutely loved my trip to Egypt. Back in January my husband and I booked the Grand Tour of Ireland trip for this July. I can do nothing, but rave about EF tours customer service and how helpful they were, along with how amazing my past experience had been with them. Due to an unforeseen circumstance we had to cancel our trip. We were really disappointed and were looking forward to traveling with Ef tours in the future, however based upon the travel protection that is provided by Seven Corners we will no longer travel with EF Tours. We bought travel protection for nothing! The travel agency will not refund what we paid for the trip even though it is listed under what it "protects" you from. I am very disappointed, as I spoke very highly of Ef Tours and have recommended it to many people. Now our opinions have changed and that's a shame.

My son was schedule to go to Italy, Greece and France for his senior class trip and needless to say we feel it isn't safe for him to go anymore. I called today to cancel his trip and see about getting a refund for the money we've already invested (we used their payment plan) and they are penalizing us almost $1000! This company is excellent at scamming you out of your money and nothing else!

There seem to be a myriad or complaints on this forum about EF Tours. What many travelers do not realize is that the majority of the money you pay is for the flight. Flights to Europe are not cheap. Also, this is one of the cheapest companies to travel with to Europe. I took a trip last summer. There was a delay, but the company provided us with a hotel, breakfast, and transportation. We even got a $250 travel voucher from the airline. The meal were good and breakfast was always a buffet, unless we were traveling early to a different country. These trips are not designed for four star travel. You will pay much more for that kind of service in Europe. These trips are designed to be a gateway for travel. Once you become comfortable with travel abroad, pay more and go on your own. There are a number of travel companies who cater to traveling families and adults. These trips are for high school students and poor college students. You get what you pay for.

This tour company is a RIP OFF ! Im going on the Europe tour and they originally said it was 3, 700 dollars and so i originally thought, okay not the worst they could charge us for but then the economic situation in Europe happened. 1 dollar US dollars used to convert to about .70 euros BUT NOW ONE DOLLAR IS EQUAL TO 0.97 EUROS AND YET THE TRIP IS STILL 3700! AND THEN ON TOP OF THAT MY HISTORY TEACHER IS COLLECTING AN EXTRA 200 DOLLARS TO PAY FOR "TIPS". 4000 DOLLARS FOR CRAPPY 2-3 STAR HOTELS, SUB PAR FOOD, AND THE TRIP IS SO RUSHED I CANT ENJOY ANYTHING! IF THATS NOT A RIP OFF I DONT KNOW WHAT IS! I ACTUALLY CALCULATED ALL THE THINGS THEY ARE PAYING FOR, AND GUESS WHAT, BASED ON WHAT THEY SAID THEY ARE GOING TO "GIVE " US IT WOULD ONLY COST 2, 132 DOLLARS. HOW MUCH ARE THEY SCAMMING OFF OF US. EF Educational Tours departure fees

I am extremely dissapointed how EF Tours runs their business. We have received two notices that the price of the tour has increased due to departure fees. The increase in departure fees is supposedly to cover increase in fuel costs passed on by the airlines. The last time I checked once you buy a ticket an airline cannot come back and ask you for any additional money. Their customer service people are quick to tell you that if you don't like it you can arrange your own flight. When I asked for some sort of back up for the additional costs they just say to take our word for it. It is kind of like writing a blank check to these guys. Who knows if these additional charges are legitimate and what is the limit to them. Buyer beware with these guys!

I completely agree with the hidden fees complaint and am planning to report EF tours to better business organizations myself. Hidden fees; unexplained increases due to ‘departure fees’ without any supporting evidence form the airlines; evasive, non-committal customer service; fees to change my childes name; ‘late payment’ fees posted BEFORE a late payment e-mail is sent; website updates not functioning… I am very disappointed with the entire experience as a parent. All about misrepresenting services and charging hidden unexplained (or vaguely explained and fees).

Hi there, I completely understand why you're upset. The price of fuel has continued to increase dramatically over recent weeks and is now approaching record highs. We cannot lock-in departure fees until 30 days before you leave for your tour. The airlines have just informed us that they are once again passing these additional charges on to travelers through increased departure fees. EF does not profit from these fees, and in the event that we experience a decrease in departure fees from the airlines, we will refund our travelers. EF Educational Tours Cancellation

My daughter booked a trip and then due to an emergency, called to cancel the next day. They told her that she needed to speak with a specific person and that person was not in. They would not let her talk with a person to cancel her trip, so she emailed them. She never received a response (this was the same email address in which they promptly replied to her questions about the trip before she signed up). She called multiple times every day but the call would not be answered or she would get a voice portal to leave a message. These attempts were all made outside the No Refund time period. However, when she was finally able to speak with the person she needed to talk with, she was told that she was outside the cancellation window and would receive no refund.
This appears to be a common theme with this company. Never have I have read so many negative complaints from parents about a company that caters to students. I hope that our problems with this company will alert others as to how this company does business.

I was injured during an EF trip in 2010. I fell in a shower where there was no mat and hurt my hip and lower back. I told the tour guide but she refused to take me to urgent care. Instead, she said I would feel better once I was back on the bus. All I was offered was a tube of German "Bengay" ointment. When I returned home I went to my doctor who said that I had a contusion of the hip but thankfully, no broken bones. I was a 56 years old at the time. I was so disappointed and disgusted that they showed so little concern for my well-being that i will never travel with them again!

EF Educational Tours Inaccurate charge for tour

My daughters high school is going on a tour with EF tours this summer. I just found out about it as one of my daughters friends mentioned it to us. When I signed her up they charged me $1000 more than the other parents and also would not honor the $150 off for signing up before Feb 28 which is clearly listed on their website. I talked to a Todd King who was extremely rude. Has anyone registered with EF tours and had this same problem? Is this company for rude as it is very hard to connect with this company. I was told to talk to a Lindsay Gerlach but she hasn't contacted me either. Any thoughts?

I really don't agree with your decison at all. If you put on your website that you will get $150 off if you sign up before Feb 28th which I clearly did. I should get that $150 off. Any good company stands by what they have on their website. What other things do you have for other people that are stated when you read an offer? You are misleading and wrong and a bad example for a company that takes high schoolers from Del Norte in San Diego on a tour that the parents are paying much money for!

I don't agree. When I signed up it stated $150 off if you signed up before Feb 28th. I did that. EF tours should give me the $150 discount. They have now changed their website. But they should honor to me what it stated. The teacher at Del Norte HS in San Diego told me to sign up with eftours. He works for Poway Unified Schools not EF tours. EF tours needs to do the right thing and give me the $150 off that was listed on their website. Any reliable company would do this.

It did not say on EF tours website when I signed up that it applies to 2012 tours. It just said $150 off if you signed up before Feb 28th. Now the website states that. I think that EF Tours should stand by what they say on their website. An honest and reliable company does that! The teacher of this trip at Del Norte HS told me to sign up with eftours and gave me their phone number and the tour number. He was right, he works for Poway Unified and not EF tours. I followed his instructions and I think that EF tours should credit me $150 and do what was on the website when I signed up. Maybe some of the complaints on this complaintsboard for EF tours is really true?

If you could get Ms. Gerlach who I think is the tour consultant to correct his for me, I would be greatful. Mr. Hanover doesn't have anything to do with EF tours website, at least I don't think he does. I signed up in February before February 28th on your website and my daughter goes to Del Norte HS in San Diego. I did call her and left her a voice message and she hasn't followed up. It is the $150 discount that was listed on eftours.com when I enrolled my daughter. If Ms. Gerlach or Lars could make this correction for me, I would be so happy. Thanks for helping me get this corrected. It is the honest thing to do. I really appreciate it and I hope that this group from Del Norte HS in San Diego has a great trip and experience with ef tours! Please advise and thank you in advance for helping me out and other parents who book on your EF tours and of course those in the Poway Unified School district in San Diego, California.

They have ripped us off too! I had a tour of fifteen people going this summer and suddenly they pulled the rug out from under us and cancelled our tour. I think they were afraid they would lose money on the group. Perhaps the EF tours is ready to go belly up!

BethOcomplaints, I am sorry for the confusion. As cseymore said, the discount you saw was for early bird enrollments on our 2012 tours. If you clicked through to read about the offer it clearly states that it is only valid for 2012 tours. We offer these discounts to travelers enrolling over a year in advance so that we can save them money by planning early. None of the travelers in your daughter’s group are paying $1000 less than you. In addition, this specific discount is not being offered to anyone in your daughter’s group, as EF representatives have explained to you. OK. Well maybe you're right and they can look back at the website. If it stated that on the website I am SURE they will give you the discount. This company sent $121 refund checks to 49 of my students 30 days after their tour ended because airline fees and surcharges went down a couple of weeks before we departed. I wasn't expecting the refund and neither were ANY of my parents. A number of them were shocked, saying things like "Why are we getting $121 in the mail from EF?" and "I had no idea. EF Tours could have kept that money and wouldn't have known the difference."

Point is, that's the way the company does business. The cost of airline security fees, airport surcharges and fuel costs went down and instead of padding their profits, they got that money back into the hands of the parents. They easily could have pocketed that money, but didn't. My parents were shocked and surprised, and extremely appreciative. And I know teachers in other states, friends of mine who take kids on tours, and they told me similar stories. In my experience, that's the way EF does business.

I had a number of parents enroll their students over the last 5 months for my 2011 tour and none of them expected or received the Early Bird discount. I'm on their website nearly every day and all I've seen is that the $150 discount is for 2012 tours. I'm literally on the site every day keeping track of my students and the multiple trips I am running for my students. If the teacher told you that you would get a $150 Early Bird discount if you enrolled recently for a 2011 tour then you were misinformed, unfortunately. I think it's great that EF gives out Early Bird discounts to parents who enroll their kids early; if they were forced to give the discount to everyone who enrolled they would probably have to stop doing the discount altogether. Again, it's the teacher's responsibility to be the liaison between the parents and the company. Did your teacher tell you that you would be receiving a $150 discount if you signed up recently? If he didn't, then that should tell you something, because when there's an actual discount that my students are eligible for, I make sure the parents know about it well in advance so that they can take advantage of it. EF Tours does a great job by providing the lowest prices in the educational travel industry, and they provide additional Early Bird discounts ON TOP of already low prices as an incentive for parents to enroll their kids early ... 15-24 months in advance of the trip's departure date.

Yeah, if you look at the advertisement on the website, it's very clear. The $150 Early Bird discount requires that you enroll prior to Feb. 28, 2011, and is for 2012 tours. So if the tour you enrolled on is a 2011 tour, I doubt there is anything Ms. Gerlach or anyone else will be able to do.

It's clear on the website that this discount applies to 2012 tours and not 2011 tours.

OK. It's not my website, and I don't work for EF. But I'll call my contact at EF and see if they can't get this sorted out for you. They're very good about making things right for students traveling on their tours and for the parents, especially when it comes to payments and discounts.

Again, if this was advertised by EF you need to call customer service and speak with the right people. Did the teacher at your child's school speak w/ you about this? Have him/her contact his tour consultant and EF and they will take care of this.
