eMusic.com free downloads, billed anyway

My son received an mp3 player fro Christimas and inside was a free coupon for emusic. Free downloads. In order to ensure you haven't received your downloads you must provide a cc number. You will not be billed. I was. They say I enrolled in their monthly service. I was not sent any emails. I saw the charge from feb on my march bill and called them. They have a NO RETURN POLICY. So watch out. I was charged for Feb and March. 11.99 each month. First bill it was on was my March cc statement. Called the company and talked with Jared. He did give me one month back( still waiting to see if he actually does.) He also stated he canceled my acct. Called my cc company and they will check into it. But will have to see what happens.

I have been an eMusic subscriber for about 5 years. I canceled today due to their aggressive posture. My Subscription expires on November 3rd but they unilaterally decided I needed an more expensive 6 month plan and billed my credit card. I got no email notice or gave them no authorization to do so. I called yesterday to cancel and demanded a refund. They would not refund without "review by senior management". This is absurd and probably illegal. Watch them like a hawk.

Just an fyi for everyone thinking about a free trial of emusic, either music or audiobooks. Below is a response from eMusic about their "free" trial. If at any point during your trial you click to download something that you don't have credit for you are automatically upgraded and billed for a membership. No confirmation screen (which they mention but was not displayed when I clicked on the audiobook download link), no notification. Their response does a good job showing how little they care about their customers. I had not downloaded the audiobook yet and I wanted them to refund the subscription amount.

________
Please note that the free trial account is for a limited number of downloads and for a limited time period. You are required to download the free tracks within the free trial period, before the account transitions to a paid membership plan. If the total number of free credits are exceeded during the free trial period, the account will automatically transition into a paid membership plan. This information was included in our Terms Of Use and on the confirmation page which appeared when the account was registered.

Unfortunately we are not able to issue you a refund for charges incurred during your membership. Per Section 6 of eMusic’s Terms of Use which you agreed to when you registered for your account, all charges made during the subscription period are nonrefundable.

I was offered 380 free downloads when i purchased my netgear wireless router. It was enclosed in the packet. I attempted to download the music and was unsuccessful. My credit card has been charged on 12/3 11.99, 11.00.10.00.5.oo, 4, oo and now there are pending charges for the 5th. It gives instructions t download in itunes as this is my sole media player. The downloads never were successful and I have no idea what the additional charges are for. I want to cancel any future billing and services and either obtain instruction on download or obtain credit for product that was not downloaded.

I recently have been charged for 201 euro by Emusic.

I have had a trial started for whitch I needed to give my credit card details.
It was said there would be no charge on my card. It was just to make sure I was who I said who I was. A quick check on the internet gave me the idea I was dealing with a respectable company.
I was stupid to do so, but I was sitting with my children and it was rather hectic. And again it seemed trust worthy.

The next two Emails I got did not warn me what so ever that I would be charged if is would not do this or that.
I think this should be the least a company should do, to avoid the suspicion of trying to lure somebody into unwillingly pay a company for services he/or she was not intending to use.

At the end it turned out to be a trick to lure me into a what I experience as a scam.
At the end this notion of no charge was a little different. 201 euro's a rediculous amount for downloading music some music.

So I went to Staples to get some supplies and I stopped by the gift card rack. I wanted an ITunes card but I really didn't want to pay $0.99 a song. But I saw this gift card for Emusic $15 and you get 30 song I read the back and it was the real deal so I went ahead and bought it.

Then when I got home I got on my laptop and proceeded to their website to look at the music they had. I was in for a rude surprise! The music wasn't sung by the real artists but by Individual artists! I was very angry. I then proceeded in calling Staples Customer Care. They said to call the store manager and she said she couldn't do anything and to call Emusic directly.

When I had called them after searching for a half an hour on their website for a phone number I was on hold for over 20 minutes. When I finally got on the phone with someone I was greeted by a "WHAT DO YOU WANT". There was their first mistake. At that point I was ticked off from that greeting but I bit my tongue and continued. I explained the problem and see said "NO REFUNDS". After I had told her (Who did not speak good English) That I did not know it would be by individual artists and not the real ones see then said "YOU SHOULD DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY". We then hung up.

I then filed a report with the BBB of Greater New York. I then called them back and got no where with that I filed a report with the FTC too. After many more phone calls I finally called Staples Corporate and told the secretary of the CEO of staples the situation and she sent me a $15 certificate that could be used at any Staples store.

I will never even think of dealing with Emusic again. They are crooks and should not be trusted.

A NOTE: I had looked this up online and many people were in the same position as I was but some who signed up for the free trial for Emusic were having unauthorized charges on their Credit Card by Emusic ex. $110.97, 52.32, 22.45. my suggestion is not to deal with them at all. Stay away form Emusic!

Hello:

Thank you for contacting eMusic Customer Support.

Our records show that an account with the e-mail address janelle1@hotmail.com has used up all 50 free trial downloads and as well as 24 subscription downloads. The message you are seeing is probably asking you if you want to upgrade your account, so you can continue to download instead of waiting for the next billing cycle.

Please be wary of attempting to claim free downloads from eMusic. I received a card for 35 free music downloads during a trial period lasting 30 days. I was required to join eMusic and select a club plan before I could download the free music. I downloaded my free mp3s on Oct. 17 and canceled the membership on Oct. 22. When I reviewed my credit card statement online, it showed I'd been billed on Oct. 21 for a full month's membership. When I contacted eMusic via its chat service, I was informed I'd agreed to this and it was buried in the "Terms of Use" document. However, upon finding the section referred to, it clearly noted no charges would be billed during the trial period. After threatening to contact the Better Business Bureau, online complaint sites and my credit card to protest the charge, eMusic wisely decided to follow its own Terms. Be very wary of using eMusic to claim your free music.

my daughter bought a 20.00 dollar mp3 player for my grandaughters birthday. it had a paper from emusic for 50 free downloads in the package with it, she asked me to download the music for her so it would be on it when she was given her present.I went into thier web site to do this, it wanted c c info before it will let you even see what music they have, I found none, thier music is not by original artists, and before i got off thier web site i had already been charged 14.99 they are crooked, very much so! If anyone is smart dont trust them.

The best thing to do is cancel the cc and have your bank to send you another one. I explained to my bank about the unauthroized charges and this is what they advised me to do. The bank said that this happens all the time and the best solution is to issue a new credit card.

eMusic.com fraud , deception out criminals

this company stole my identify and yes debit card info-WITHOUT me knowing it. No email welcoming no nothing but my bank statement
showing an 11.99 charge. When called, the the company gave me the run around and would not refund my money. I was told that I had 30 days to download 50 songs straight to my -IPOD which I have never owned. The only way to stop them is to stop your card and get another one as you be will continually charged. There is NOTHING you can do as you never know before it happened.
This site :complaintsboard.com has other testimonials to this fraud.
what can we do-wikipedia has their address and I am for one am going to write the city da, state da. etc. recommend all us doing this as well as their bbb. Wikipedia has all of the infromation.

Emusic.com is a huge RIP OFF. They sent me an email wanting me to come back to them. I opened the email and there was a message briefly dicussing the offer and a link that says "See Details." When I clicked on it, it automatically activated my account so I cancelled immediately. (this was in an email they sent to me about my account activity " Start: Jun 4, 2017 2:49:20 PM End: Jul 4, 2017 2:49:26 PM). However, I noticed that they charged me $9.99. I sent several emails to get a refund but they said that they couldn't because I agreed to the offer. When I explained to them that the offer was misleading because it only said "see details, " and I assumed that going there would just give me more details on the offer. They still said they can't refund me for having an active account for 6 seconds. All the emails appear to be form letters so I called the 800 number on my cc statement but it to was automated. THEY INTENTIONALLY SEND MISLEADING EMAILS, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY ARE A SCAM, DON'T USE THEM!

I asked emusic to cancel my membership, but refused to give me a refund for the time that I didn't use the membership because they had already charged my account. I told the manager that I didn't want to continue with the service and he insisted that I stay and offered me more songs free. I told him I wanted to just cancel the service and get a refund for the charge on my account from the time that I didn't use the service and he said that they never give refunds. This company should have a class action law suit against them. I have read so many times that they refuse to give refunds and even when people have cancelled they still keep charging them. This is unfair for customers who trust they are getting a free trial and end up with charges on their accounts and for customers who cancel but still get charged.

EMusic is a joke, DON’T JOIN. I joined believing their claims about having the largest music selection on the web. After joining and getting into their site and trying to download music from artists I had actually heard of I couldn’t find a single one. What a joke. If you want music you have actually heard on the radio get your music somewhere else.

Then when I tried to call someone I couldn't even find a number on their web site. I eventually found this number: [protected]. However, in speaking to an operator I got nowhere. I explained that within 5 minutes of joining their service I realized they didn't have any music I wanted. They told me I could cancel the service but they were not about to give me a refund.

I recommend you do NOT join this service.

Tried to sign up for "50 free downloads". Complete waste of time! Once my credit card details had been taken I was asked to set up a password, after which I was returned to the credit card details page. I keep going round in circles. The "contact us" page is unuseable and the "chat" facility for online help is out of commission. My credit card company have been advised. Life's too short: don't waste your time with emusic.

In Sept 2017 - I made the huge mistake of responding to an offer for "free" music downloads from eMusic.com -- the offer seemed genuine. eMusic sent me an email welcoming me to eMusic in Sept 2017. Up until now (Mar 2017) - that is the only contact that I have had with eMusic.com. Upon doing my taxes earlier today - I found an 11.99 charge every month for last year (and now have also found out that eMusic has also billed me for Jan, Feb and Mar -- in addition to Sept Oct Nov and Dec 2017). Upon finding this issue - I contacted eMusic to ask for a refund as I have not downloaded a single track and now find that I have paid nearly $230 dollars to this company. I asked eMusic to find a reasonable amount for settlement given that (1) I have not downloaded any music (2) I have not heard from them since Sept 2017 (3) They have automatically renewed my "membership" (not sure if I would call it a membership as member programs normally keep members appraised)

This is obviously a rip-off company -- I would urge everyone to boycott this company -- additionally their practices are definitely below the line -- in this age of Bernie Madoff, I find it reprehensible that a company can be in business with such dubious business ethics. This company should be sued and driven out of business. Spend your money elsewhere!

Like so many others, I signed up for a "free" music download trial, during which I was asked to give my credit card information as part of the process. I was supposed to get 50 free download credits, and I carefully selected exactly 50 credit worth of music to download. I was only allowed to receive 14 downloads per day, so I downloaded my first 14 tracks that evening.

The music quality was CRAP. I have a very high end multimedia PC and not only did the music sound like it was overmodulated but I could analyze it graphically and could see the distortion. I gave them the benefit of a doubt and downloaded my second 14 tracks the next day, which also sounded like trash. I cancelled my subscription that afternoon.

Upon checking my online credit card statement two days later I discovered that the very night I signed up for my "free" trial subscription they had billed be $20.79. When I called to complain, the first person I spoke with said that I had not cancelled my subscription at all and there was nothing she could do despite my having an e-mail from the company showing that I had cancelled my subscription adn stating that I would not be billed. The second person I spoke with half an hour later acknowledged that, yes, I had indeed cancelled my subscription within 24 hours, but claimed I had downloaded 75 credits worth of music and had therefore automatically been billed for a premium subscription. Despite the fact that they could not prove I had downloaded any more than 24 credits worth of music, they refused to refund my money. I currently have a case pending with my state's attorney general's office against them.

Spread the word about eMusic.com! The quality of their music is CRAP and they are another one of those hole-in-the-wall shams being run out of a basement in some apartment building in New York City. Let's put them out of business and help NYC TAKE OUT THE TRASH!

I'm trying to get my money back now. We're only 'one' charge into this mess. We cancelled well w/in the 14 day trial but were charged anyway. They say they 'can't refund money' but their OWN termination policy say they will refund for unused time (section 7).

eMusic.com Unauthorized billing

Billed 14.95 for a membership on 3/2/09 for an account that had been canceled in Nov 2008. Their claim was that the account was "frozen" and they had the right to revive it after the waiting period. When I expressed I did not want the membership and to refund the charge, they refused. I have taken the issue to my bank where they have credited me the funds and I have filed an FTC complaint. Any company who refuses to refund a product or service when the customer does not want it is a problem and should be avoided at all costs. That is simply bad business practices and makes the company seems desperate--a bad sign.

I purchased eMusic gift card. It said it was the largest source of 'independent music' on the net. Turns out that means that there are no major artists available- any songs you know are sung by no-name artists that couldn't get a major label if they tried. I downloaded 7 of 100 songs before i realized my grave error. I tried to return to Target where I bought the card but they could not refund since I used 7 songs. I have requested that eMusic refund my money but they will not.

This is not a quality music service- this is a service that butchers your favorite songs. Also- if you read the reviews of real people- they will steal the money right out of your bank account.

This company has continued to bill me for emusic($9.99) and ebooks($11.99) after a trial period that I cancelled. This has been going on for several months and they had refused until June 13, 2010 to allow me to cancel. After canceling my account, E-Music refused to not bill for the next month. I also recall canceling my initial submission pronto...but have no record to verify it, so for 4 months they were still billing me.
I complained to my bank and the next fee, which is pending, I asked the bank not to honor. If you work through your bank, there is a chance that E-Music will have to stop withdrawing money (for people who are having money automatically withdrawn).

eMusic.com Unauthorized billing

I received an offer with my purchase of a Netgear router for 50 free songs and one free audio book. When I went to emusic.com I didn't like what I saw so I canceled and never downloaded anything.

When I checked my charge card statement online I saw they billed me. When I called to dispute the charge (I called three times) I was given the exact same answer read off a sheet; 'you upgraded your account before you canceled and you signed that you would not get a refund we can not give you a refund, is there anything else?' and hung up.

I signed up for a free trial but canceled. I got an email with a "special offer" asking me to rejoin. When I clicked to investigate I was re-enrolled without any warning or authorisation from me. This is a deeply dishonest business and I advise all to avoid it. I am attempting to get my credit card charged reversed. Will advise on progress.

I went on the site as they were offering a "free" trial - for a limited value. Unfortunately, downloads are automatic and your card is charged immediately upon clicking on an item, so free may not really be free depending on what you click on. No confirm screen of any kind is used by this site when charges are going on your card. THEY ALSO HAVE A NO REFUND POLICY THAT ALL STAFF REPEAT OVER AND OVER LIKE ROBOTS. Customer satsifaction is clearly not this company's priority. BE CAREFUL WHEN GIVING THIS SITE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO.

although i had not noticed for many months, emusic.com had been charging my credit card $9.99 per month for a service that neither owner of the credit card had purchased. When I called them, they said my minor son had signed up and they do not care either way if I knew about the use of my card. They chose not to call or email me to ask if my my minor son could use my card. When I ask for my money back, they told me that was not their policy. When I asked if my son had accessed or used the service, they said the account was never accessed by anyone. When I complained some more they promised me a call from "corporate" which never came. Instead, I got a rude email from customer support questioning my parenting skills. What a scam.

I did not request a subscription, but was billed $9.99 by my credit card which was required for a free trial by their web site. Then, since this was bill without my approval, my account bounced and I was charged an additional $55.oo. I was lucky that my bank refunded the additional charges, but I have not been able to get a response back from this company and I am afraid they will make another fee charge without my knowledge or approval.

I feel that a state AG or a federal fraud investigation should be started regarding this company, as to deceptive intent as well as a website that is impossible to navigate through to cancel without actually signing up again! I had to call my credit card company for 6 continuous months to get a charge from them reversed after receiving a cancellation confirmation email.

eMusic.com Taking funds from account

Since October of 2008, $11.99 has been taken out of a closed bank account, that reopened when the emusic sent charges to it. Due to the reoccuring charges I was charged overdraft fees and return item fees. I now have a balance of $409.00 due to this issue. The bank would not close the account as long as they sent it through. No one will help and emusic is non responsive and continues to withdraw funds.

eMusic.com Unauthorized charges

eMusic.com has ads all over the internet offering 25 free downloads, so I succumbed and signed up for the trial membership. Little did I know the scam I was signing up for. When I signed up, emusic required me to enter my credit card information, and with that, they automatically enrolled me to their monthly subscription service.

Anyway, I did end up downloading some tracks, but ultimately I found the music selection lacking. Since I did use the service the few weeks, and I didn't cancel soon enough, I suppose the first charge from emusic was legitimate, even though they get to do this in a sneaky, bait and switch way:

Sign up free! Now give us your credit card number! Now we're going to take your money for what we advertised as free!

After I got billed the first month, I definitely wanted to cancel my account before they scammed more money out of me, so I went and canceled on the web before the subscription renewal date for the next month. But I noticed later that month that emusic had still charged my credit card for that month, which I had canceled.

And I had a HELL of a time trying to contact EMusic's customer support to resolve this. First I tried calling the customer support phone number listed on their website [protected]); which never went through to a live person. Whenever I called that number, I got a recorded message saying that the number is not available! I also tried to call the emusic number listed on my credit card statement, [protected], and got the same recorded message. But I couldn't find any other contact numbers on their website! How can they be a legitimate business and have no valid customer support line?

At the same time as I was trying to contact their telephone customer support, I also sent them an email via their web request form, asking to refund the unauthorized charge to my credit card. I received an automated email telling me they have received my request, and per the email instructions, responded to that email. I got no response after a week, so I sent another email to [protected]@help.emusic.com and also sent another from their web request form. After another week, still no response, so I sent another email, and then a third and fourth email and I NEVER received any response to my emails. Wow, what stellar customer service, emusic!

At wits end, I googled “emusic customer support number" and found a message board where someone had posted their head office numbers. I called the head office in New York [protected], and finally spoke with a customer service representative . I explained that they had billed me for my canceled subscription and they should reverse the charge. The rep said they have a firm no refund policy and there was nothing they could do because the account was already canceled, and assured me that I wouldn't see any further charges to my credit card. That's nice, but I explained that they had already taken money from me AFTER I canceled my account, so they charged me for services not rendered, and I was expecting them to refund the unauthorized charge to my credit card. Like a robot, she just kept repeating their canned “no refunds" blurb, no matter how many times I tried to explain that they stole money for services not rendered. Eventually I asked to speak to her supervisor, but she said he wasn't available and he would just tell me the same thing anyways. Lucky for her I am a calm person, so I didn't blow a fit, but just hung up after asking a few more times. After all that, I got NOWHERE.

Emusic is an absolute SCAM! They use deceptive business practices, bait and switch to lure their sucker customers in, then proceed to fraudulently bill their customers.

These scammers use unscrupulous practices to steal money from their customers. I will never do business with these scammers again.

They bill me for stuff that I have nothing to do with. I've never used their website. I'v never downloaded any music from them. They just billed me for absolutely nothing. They don't respond back to my emails. They don't even have a phone number you can reach them at. How unprofessional is that, because they don't want people calling them asking why they got billed for stuff they didn't even buy. They're hiding. When you go to instant support live chat on their website. It doesn't even do anything. I can't stand emusic.com. Who needs emusic when there's itunes.

eMusic says I signed up for a trial subscription, which I do not recall doing. When the trial period ended my credit card was charged $31.99 for four consecutive months. When I called them today to dispute this, they told me since I didn’t cancel the subscription after 14 days, my account was charged. They could easily tell from my account that I haven’t used it. They further said it was company policy to not offer refunds. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was not connected to her, but was told that the supervisor reversed one month’s billing of $31.99. This is totally unacceptable. They ripped me off.

Everyone who is concerned: as I read, same situations just a different person. I, too, frustrated with the website, email addresses, and so-called customer service numbers took my own actions after 2 weeks of no response. Listen up! First, I cancelled my own credit card and informed the bank of the website. Second, I, fortunately, was able to read complaints on cancelme@emusic.com. Third, I called this number [protected] and was able to talk directly to someone and get a confirmation number. I strongly advise all to repeat good information given from consumers and help to shut down this website service. I am relieved only with the confirmation of my bank but still do not trust the confirmation from emusic. I am making it a mission to also contact the stores in my neighborhood, the BBBonline, local newspapers, and the local news channels. You see, same situations but different person... I am a detective by profession.

above mentioned company withdrew thirtysome odd dollars from my cheking account on or about 5/29/08 without my authorization. I never even heard of the company, and have no idea how they obtained such private and secure information. this is downrite scary! repeated attempts to cancel and have money returned by way of options given are not there! will continue to try for a short while longer, then will file complaint with pa. state attorney general! these people belong in jail!

Here are the facts about this bottom-feeding rip-off of a company.
1. Their ads for "free" downloads are as ubiquitous as Tiger Woods mistresses
2. They DELIBERATELY make their downloads user unfriendly (even their loyal followers admit this)
3. They do #2 (no pun intended) for the express purpose of being able to charge people who have responded to their "free" trial offers (in my case, I received nothing but a "dowloading error" message each time I attempted to download anything--a message that did not even scroll, so all you saw was "downloadi..."--logical assumption being that your "free" music is downloading). So when you keep attempting to download stuff that never downloads, you go over your "free" limit and get charged, in spite of the fact that nothing has downloaded successfully. Pretty clever, eh?
4. Not nearly as clever, however, as not having any sort of pop-up to warn you that you are about to go over your "free" limit and if you continue an action, you will be charged.
5. Customer service reps are some of the most unresponsive (except when you anger them with your logic) twits on the internet (again, even their Blind Faithful will admit this), and will, under NO circumstances, issue a refund.
6. Complain on emusic message boards and suggest there are better alternatives, and you will be vilified. The Blind Faithful even have specific labels for you, and save their most vitriolic ridicule for those with the most legitimate complaints. I was called every name imaginable, including a vile term used to refer to the mentally challenged (more than once), and told in no uncertain terms, that my inability to use their site was because of my own stupidity. I even had demeaning speculation on my profession, and when I dispersed this with a proclamation of my actual profession, the vituperation quadrupled, with one fine emusicer posting over 20 notices denigrating my profession and those in it.
7. Should you doubt that emucous's business model is designed specifically to rip-off unsuspecting "free" trialers, couple the above observations with the fact that 60% of emusic's income is generated from "inactive" accounts. This fact was posted by a disgruntled former employee whose privileges to post on their message boards was immediately revoked, as was mine when I repeated this fact.

Not being one to complain without offering a solution, if everyone who has experienced a similar problem with these jerks (and to me, one of the most egregious things is that these rip-off artists portray themselves as the ultra-hip heroes and saviours of the poor struggling independent artists and those who enjoy listening to them) would complain to the Attorney General of New York State (where emucous is based), the Attorney General of his or her state (where emucous does business), and the Greater New York BBB, something may get accomplished.

Their main number online is [protected] and it gives you other numbers to call only. Called the [protected] Not in Service. Called [protected] same. [protected] gives you the toll free numbers where there is no service. This is so wrong. Has anyone had any luck with their Attorney General?

I had exactly the same problem as all of the people above. I signed on to the trial membership back in Dec 2012 and never even looked at my Charge card statements (yeah, shame on me!) until 2015. I immediately stopped it, but only through my credit card company and they contacted emusic via email because there is NO WORKING NUMBER and that company provided my credit card company with the initial 'Trial Eligible' period, but said there was never a cancellation on my part. I should have taken a screen shot picture of my cancellation, but in hindsight...I never knew this would be an issue.
Now I'm in the process of collecting the little information I have and writing to the Attorney General in my State along with the Better Business Bureau. I have never gotten any response from the company. Disgusted.

I did not authorize emusic to charge my credit card for any reason and did not sign-up nor use the service. I did contact them and they said they would cancel the serivece but that no credit would be given regardless of the reason. I am going to fight this but doubt it will do me any good. I would never sign up for this service and make sure you check your credit cards for charges by them.

eMusic.com I got scammed

Emusic does scam. When you cancel your account, they send you an email if you click on it they automatically reactivate your account and they DO NOT tell you or send you a confirmation email. I am currently trying to get my wasted $90 back because I did not track my credit card charges well enough. My bad but YES THEY DO SCAM. Oh and they will not give you a refund even though they can see you never downloaded any music and did mean to cancel your account 8 months ago... They also will nto let you talk to any supervisors and hold you hostage when you try to call and complain. I reported them to the BB also.

Just want people to know that even so called legit companies can scam.

If you put your profile on hold, meaning you don't want to be charged for another month since you didn't find the music you were looking for at that time. You'd better use you credits before 30 days is up. They will delete your unused credits and not refund you. It is a total rip off of your money. Plus, their customer service is horrible-namely Clyde Shepard. Very rude and downright mean.

EMusic is a joke, DON’T JOIN. I joined believing their claims about having the largest music selection on the web. After getting into their site and trying to download music from artists I had actually heard of I couldn’t find a single one. What a joke. If you want music you have actually heard on the radio get your music somewhere else.

eMusic.com Unauthorized Charge

I went to the website to sign up for the 25 day "risk-free" trial. I was mislead down a path that asked for my credit card. The language clearly stated "if you are signing up for free songs, don't worry, your credit card will not be charged .. just need it for authorization purposes.. etc etc." I proceeded and downloaded 17 songs, only to find that the site did not suit my personal preferences in music. So I canceled the service, to be sure.

The site, however, is unclear and calculated in it's process and somehow I ended up with a credit card charge of 11.99. Upon calling eMusic, they refused the refund.

The site is fraudulently misleading consumers into a "free trial" that is clearly not free.

What can be done so other innocents like me don't get burnt too and/or how can I get my money back!

eMusic.com Fraud / Credit Card Charges

1. Despite two attempts to cancel account charges via their web site, credit card charges continue to appear.
2. Despite discussion with customer service, credit card charges continue.

- This is fraud. Theft.

Look, eMusic DOES offer downloadable music. I'll grant, some of it blows up for mysterious reasons eventually, but there is music that can be downloaded.

The problem is what the company does next. This is a criminal organization.

I received a few fliers with the arrival of my newly purchased Creative's Zen MP3 player... I tried Audible.com first, and am happy to say that the Risk Free 30 day trial offer seams to be legit... I got my Audioboox I have NOT been charged to date, and DO plan to continue to do biz w/them.

Having had THAT good fortune, I decided to try the next page in the flier... EMusic... Still, a 30 day "RISK FREE" offer, 50 free songs, no payment no fault, keep the tunes if canceled within 30 days, $11.99 if I stuck - and the option for another "RISK FREE" 14 day trial of eboox, with a rollover to $9.99 if I did not cancel within that 14 days.

I tried to download 1 MP3 tune on the Emusic site... While it played in my Windows Media player, it was no where to be found in my computer. Ok... let's go and cancel... Twas then that I saw I had ALREADY been nailed for the $11.99... When I tried to use my 1 credit for an Audio book, the 1st 5 that I TRIED to obtain, got an 'ooops' page... Not available at this time...? Huh? It's DATA! On the 6th try. I saw that my 1 free credit had evaporated and my account had already been charged $9.99, but there was no new ebook downloaded anywhere in my computer!

Peepz, I'm disabled and on a fixed income. I choose my entertainment expenditures wisely, and while I have NO PROBLEMS with staying with someone reputable, I can ILL AFFORD to be allowing myself to be scammed out of part of a fixed income. This has cost me $11.99 + $9.99 + overdrafts on each $25.00 X 2, and then another check bounced due to this for $19.00 and then another $25.00 fee for that.

In return, I have ZERO--- Bupkiss, NADA, to listen to except myself, singing the blues! These people have NO PHONE NUMBER! I usually look 4 such PRIOR to allowing myself to get screwed, It was my bad this time for not doing proper diligent research. I have already shot off 4 complaints to them, via their on line form, the ONLY way they can be contacted it appears... And have already been to my bank, who will be trying to recoup my funds... I doubt it will happen, but I've got 'em all crossed yo.

The online form says they will TRY to get back to you within a week, but there is NO WAY to get to a breathing human here. It is MY HUMBLE OPINION that people should steer clear of this place until they either get the act together, work out the bugs... Something.. I really hate to want to be a hater and claim SCAM... But--- I AM out OVER to a hundred bux here, for one partially listened to tune that I cannot even listen to anymore!

What a shame Creedence Clear Water Revival can't collect the royalty on that track!. My next stop is to put in a complaint with Creative, as they ought know better than to taint a good product with a BAD BAD partner.

MOST Sincerely,
Richard Mansfield.

I downloaded music from their site and when I went to put them on my ipod it would say path not found. I also tried burning them to a cd and got the same message, when I contacted the website I was basicly told sorry, they couldn't do anything. I wasted 40 bucks on music I can't even listen to on my computer. If you are thinking about using them...don't.

eMusic.com emusic download rip-off

I got my child a $20 MP3 player for Christmas. This "inexpensive" little stocking stuffer has turned out to be an emusic money pit. Before we could download any of the "50 Free Downloads, " I was required to give my credit card information 'to verify" that I was who I said I was. Beleive me, emusic is not who they say they are...they're deceiptful theaves!
Now, they're charging me $9.95/month. I have tried to contact these scammers over the phone and via the Web site but have been unsuccessful. When I call the phone number appearing on my bank statement, there is a recorded message only, indicating that if I want to cancel my emusic account, I must either send an e-mail or cancel on the Web site. Every time I have attempted to logon the Web site by entering my e-mail address, I receive a message that indicates they do not have my e-mail address on file. However, they have done a great job keeping up with my credit card info and charging my banckcard $9.95 every month. Emusic is anything but "free." What a rip-off!

What is the difference between receiving a monthly gift card and an eMusic account. eMusic takes away the remaining balance at the end of the month (billing) cycle. In Oregon a business gift card cannot have a declining balance. Why can eMusic get away with this in Oregon or any other state for that matter?

Concur entirely. I was charged nearly $500 without knowing it. They acknowledge that no one has accessed the account since the week it was created four years ago, yet all they would do is reverse two months charges (or $19.98). I'm going to small claims court over this.

I would gladly join a class action lawsuit against EMusic. They continue to charge my credit card bill on a monthly basis even after confirming that my account is cancelled. I had a good working relationship in the past, but no more.

I would love nothing more than to stop emusic in it's tracks, however I have no clue how to go about that. I ended up calling my bank ( I have a Credit/Debit card)...and telling them to no longer honor the automatic withdrawal ~~it cost me 25 bucks to do so...but I figure it's worth it to get this jerks off my hiney! Al I can say is...lesson learned! and~~~what goes around ~~~comes around~~~the emusic folks are in for a big hurt! I hope they end up losing every penny they've scammed from people...and then some!

I have been scamed. Like most complaints it starts with a free down load then they get your cc information and just keep billing rguardless of your efforts to cancel. I have contacted my cc company and they say that the only thing I can do is contest the charges but in the mean time emusic can continue to bill my account. I feel this is criminal and would like to know if there is any thing we can do to stop them and prevent them to doing this to others. I would be willing to join a class action law suit against them if I have backing. e-mail me if interested.
Thanks
Bill

eMusic.com Terrible customer service!

Recieved ipod and 30 day trial from directtv promotional. The emusic .com site has been billing me 14.95 per month and and customer service is nonexistent and unresponsive. I've been unable to get a phone number or customer service address that is functional. I've read numerous reports re nefarious practices by emusic.com against participants who have selected a music download plan only to have it changed by the site operators to a more expensive plan or longer term selection. This practice is totally illegal.

I received a offer inside the box of a AT&T cell phone I purchased. "50 free music downloads from Emusic.c0m A 14 day trial offer. Over 2, 000, 000 songs offered." When you sign up, it requires a credit card to complete the registration. Once I completed the registration and entered the site I discovered that it contained no music or artists that I would want to download. I cancelled my trial offer within a couple hours. I received a confirmation that my account was cancelled and I would receive "no further billing." I checked my credit card account on-line the next day I found I was charged $19.99 I checked more into Emusic.com and discovered per Wikipedia that " New subscribers receive 25 free downloads over a period of 14 days.[3] The trial account turns into a billable subscription account immediately after registering for a trial. Refunds are impossible." I contacted my credit card company and opened a dispute. Emusic.com is not only deceptive but a total rip-off. I urge everyone to stay clear.

eMusic.com eMusic service is NO SERVICE!

My daughter received a certificate through Radio Disney - for "free" I-Pod downloads thru E-Music. When we went online to get these "free" downloads we had to complete a registration and subscribe. It was said that there was no obligation and that the membership could be cancelled (kind of like a free trial type thing) - yet we had to provide a credit card #. We never got to the point of being able to download any music and decided we didn't want to go further. We submitted a request to cancel the service right away. We rec'd notice the account was cancelled - however we received a charge on the credit card. The following month we were charged again. I went online trying to find contact info - there is nothing. I cancelled the acct again - this time printing the receipt of cancellation. The following month I was charged yet again! This has continued for about 5 months now - each month I have disputed the charges thru my credit card company and each month tried to find a way to get E-music to stop charging the card. I recently noticed there was a phone # on the credit card statement. I called the # and the automated line says "to cancel your service by e-mail, press 1", to cancel your service by...press 2" to cancel your service by phone press 3" - those are the only options - obviously people are not happy w/ them! Anyhow I thought "oh wow! I have another route to get this resolved" - so I pressed 3 to cancel by phone. Guess what? It directs you to go to the internet to cancel. I am very frustrated with this companies lack of service on all levels. I have never and will never use or recommend this company to anyone.

emusic.com run the same scam in the UK as that described by Gena; see previous.

My credit card company are - hopefully - taking up the cudgels to recover the "subscriptions" that I never authorized. Since having my account debited without my permission I have belatedly found many complaints about emusic, but not a sign of a rebuttal from that company. Its attitude is "keep quiet and the aggrieved party will go away". Not this one.

eMusic.com Unauthorized charges!

Signed up for a "free" trial. Realized this site had nothing to offer and canceled the same day. Now there is a $9.99 charge on my credit card. I am in the process of trying to get a refund, but I am not hopeful. Stay away from this company.

I signed up for the free trial in October 2007 and canceled almost immediately. They have been charging my credit card $9.99 for 6 months, despite my efforts to cancel my account. I have sent them several emails requesting to cancel and got a response from someone named Alyssa stating that there is no record of my account ever existing. If my account never existed, then how/why are they still charging my credit card...

I have contact the Better Business Bureau about emusic because they keep on charging me $19.99 each month even though I cancel the account every month after I see the charge they should never have given me.

I ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO CONTACT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and file a complaint about this company. This so is wrong, regardless of someone's financial situation (I don't have an extra $19.99/month whatsoever).

PLEASE FILE A COMPLAINT, you can do so online and it only takes a few minutes.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB, with the Internet Fraud office and with my bank. I am also going to follow the advice on the following site: /URL removed/

Good luck to everyone trying to get their money back from this awful company.

Absolutely a rip off - I've threatened legal proceedings now as they won't give me a refund for charging my debit card for over a year (since unsubscribing AND saying that they couldn't access that card anyway - and I never sent them any new details). I will take Ben Johnson's advice about the bank as well I think.

After recieveing a free trial for music and audiobooks with my ipod case for emusic, which i tried, i started getting $9.00 charges every week. Not knowing where they were coming from for a while i finally realized what i had done. At the time of getting my account i was finishing up for school and recovering from surgery and was unable to get back on my account to cancel it within the 14 days. Since the debit card information that was given to them hardly had any money i am now being charged around $80.00 for chargeing to my account and not having enough in the account to pay for it. Since then i have cancelled the account and i'm in the process of contacting them :/ but it's unlikely they will refund me the charges for $9.00 each week. I was also unable to download music recieveing an error every time and the selection of music was ridiculous they had nothing i had ever heard of. I am strongly against this company and don't recommend anyone getting an account with them. Please if i can do anything to get my money back i would really appreciate it. EMUSIC IS A SCAM DO NOT CREATE ANY ACCOUNTS FOR MUSIC OR AUDIOBOOKS!

What I have done is gone into my bank with the confirmation email showing that they acknowledged the cancellation. It had the date and time on the email which was then cross referenced with the dates on my bank statement and the bank sprung into action with an instant fraud investigation. They advised me to start a new account so they can't hit me with further charges. I have since received a refund in full :o)

eMusic.com Scam and fraud!

I signed up, tried the service, found it too buggy and canceled within 24 hours. Then I see they've charged my Amex and will not respond to my e-mail.

Beware people!

I absolutely agree that emusic.com are crooks. I registered after Dec 27 for a 14 days FREE TRIAL. The first thing they did was subscribing me for a month and charging my card for J8.99. I cancelled the same day but they charged me ! When you registers for trial they charges you anyway and says that it wasn't free trial and you mixed up the ads. But they lie. And they never send you any confirmation about the charges or registration.

Pls be aware and check your cc even after cancellation. Very often they 'forget' about the cancellation and charges you for 3-4 months.

In addition their music library is very poor. They don't have Metallica, U2, Manonna etc. No major singers and bands. I don't think you are ready to pay for cover versions and songs IN STILE OF someone famous.

Evidently, when I bought a card at my local best buy for 65 downloads from eMusic... registered the card (have to use a credit card to register my card?)... never could find 65 songs to download... they say I have a "subscription" and have charged me 9.99 for the past 6 months... when I never even totally used my prepaid card.

Is this even legal? Can't talk to anyone at customer service. Maybe there is no customer service. I think I will go through the arduous effort to report them to the BBB in New York city (that is where their address is).

I have placed a dispute with my credit card.
