Re: woodstoves including Summers Heat, Englander, and timberidge. these are sold by Lowes as well as other distributors. We purchased our woodstove through Lowes in 8/05. It was back ordered and came in 9/05. Well right out of the box it was DOA ! An electrician did the wiring, including its own GFI. We contacted the company. their idea of customer service is to have you hold the phone to the stove so they can listen to it! Well after several such phone calls they sent us a new blower and thermostat. keep in mind this is under warranty yet we had to either install the parts ourselves or hire an electrician to do so! Well aprox every 3 months since the thermostat dies. At first they replaced it. They started telling us to do things like open it and BEND pieces to try and make them work. We average 1 1/2 HOURS per call, most of it being passed around and put on hold. finally being told someone else will call us back. the last phone call they actually told us to just DUCT tape the thermostat in the On POSITION! No one will call us back, answer emails etc. since they have dragged this problem out past the warranty they don't want to replace the thermostat. No one will answer if duct taping is SAFE or if they will cover the motor if using duct tape causes the motor to burn out. they were supposed to have a tech check the last thermostat that we SHIPPED back to them but they admit they never did. As I said they were notified of this problem while under warranty and have yet to properly correct it. This stove does not work properly, the company will no longer return our DAILY phone calls or emails. I plan on notifying everyone possible both online and off until they either correct the problem or have a RECALL due to FAULTY Thermostat. I want it repaired properly or removed from my home with a full refund given. I can and will hold them responsible for damages.

we bought a multifuel stove from lowes worked a little shottie the first season the fake brick fire panel board crumbled in pieces the first season there is a lot of maintenance if you don't like maintaining things stay away from this stove. Real pain in the ###.second season now and the main control board went $229.95 un---kingbelievable just out of warranty too?My recommendation is stick with plain old wood stoves. If my insurance agent wouldn't have been such an ### that is what i would have done ow and good luck with service

I'm not sure what the guy above is saying about being a Democrat. I live in NH - a real red state - and I am REAL mad with Englander. Really poor customer service - 2009 Summer's Heat was the worse purchase of my life. The auger seized up in two months, the back draft caused the house to smoke up several times, we had a hopper fire when the motor stopped working. Called customer service for parts ( I am a mechanic so do my own repairs) and was on hold for over and hour, not once or twice but three times. I learned their parts are outsourced from overseas. Cheap metals and poor assembly. The second and last hopper fire caused the side panel to melt - I finally got someone on the phone and I said " This is a real hazard!" His reply - "Oh it won't hurt nothing." Good god amighty.

My stove PVDC-25 is 6 years old and has worked great! Nothing has broke down. I have tore down the gear boxes and cleaned and replaced the grease as well as greased the auger bearings. . Cleaned the vent and auger areas of baked on gunked. No problems!

I am a hardcore DIY'er and have no problems with maintaining and looking after my tools, vehicles etc. I am also a professional landscaper, a licensed mechanic and a tool and dye maker and I can honestly say that I have no problems whatsoever looking after my appliances, but when a brand new piece of equipment does not work out of the box there is absolutely no excuse.

If Englander plans to market and sell a pellet stove with absolutely no regards to quality control then perhaps there should be a Consumer Affairs investigation regarding their business practices. At the very least the BBB should be cognizant of the fact that their customer service outside of their home state is non existent.
We purchased this stove (EP-25) as a secondary heat source from Lowes and as an easier alternative than the current wood stove, but the multitude of problems from shoddy assembly practices to missing pieces to simply poor design is vast.

The customer service line was dialed and left on speaker phone and after 4 hrs and 13 minutes of no response was disconnected. In the first 48 hours of owning a stove that will not ignite, and after using gel on a 2 hour old stove I finally got some assistance from one of Englanders suppliers and one of the chimney companies, who advised me that in my location the only way to get any parts for the stove was through E-bay, on a $2000 stove I have owned for less than a week. Today is actually the one week anniversary for this turd and with a combined total of 1642 minutes of phone calls, I have yet to speak to anyone at Englander.

The issue that the myopic people on here seem to keep regurgitating is maintenance and that it is an economy purchase for the DIY'er to keep their costs down, and I agree, the maintenance and repairs are minor and working on an item as basic and rudimentary as this one is child's' play. The bigger issue is why am I forced to repair a brand new item that hasn't worked, ever? If you purchased a new fridge and when you plugged it in and it didn't work, would you be okay with having to replace parts on it yourself, and why does it have to be an item that large? If I purchased anything that didn't work when I took it out of the box, I would not expect it to have to repair and replace parts myself.

Maybe the car companies should take a lesson from Englander and if they have any issues with a new car under warranty, they should simply send the parts to the purchaser and tell them to repair it, however, with the defect track records of all the major car manufacturers in recent years, the entire global economy would shut down as the world population would all be employed as mechanics.

I think the biggest issues are why are the items of such poor quality at delivery and why is the customer service for anyone outside Englanders home state simply horrid.

By the way, I am from Northern Ontario, Canada and there is absolutely no service available for this stove, not local service reps or from Englander, period.

Thanks for allowing me to get this off my chest.

Hey fellow canucker. Man do I feel your pain. My 1500 sq. ft. Englander pellet stove also came from Lowes and resides at my cottage in Haliburton, Ontario. Bought my stove this past October and stove upper feed auger jammed tight after first 20 minutes out of the box. After 3 hours on phone I managed to free up auger ( taking off back panel, auger motor, loosening bolts, emptying hopper, and so on ) and start up stove again. This happened twice more then I discovered set screws on collar connecting auger motor to shaft were not at all tight. So I now think whos your Daddy I fixed the problem...NOT. Now I'm on my 2nd bag of pellets and the auger jams up again. I can't keep doing this every weekend. Its very frustrating and embarassing when guests arrive to freezing cold accomadations. Good news is Manager at Lowes will take a 2 month old pellet stove back. He really seemed to feel my pain, . Englander should be friggin ashamed of themselves for selling crap like this. Advice to potential purchasers.. stay clear of this brand.. try an Encore Mini made in British Columbia, Canada. Got one in my basement for four years now. ZERO PROBLEMS. Cost me $2000.00 but you sure get what you pay for. Good luck to all.

Ordered Two parts from Englander, igniter and gasket the idiots sent it UPS, (Eight days) instead of a little common sense of 1/2 lb would be Three days, through the Mail, this is even on there Website as to there process! I have had the Stove since 10/07 what a hunk of junk! only works properly when you really don't need the heat, e-mailed them no comment to this day. Since it appears they use the " MADE IN THE USA" crutch I hope to buy my next stove from China for a third of the price, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM ENGLANDER STOVE COMPANY!

Sorry my mistake, my basement pellet stove is an Enviro Mini, not an Encore Mini as stated. I have a wood burning stove Vermont Castings " Encore " . Sorry for confusion.
An update to my top auger issue;, after repeated jams this past weekend and total frustration I called englander support, left message and was called back within minutes. Very imperssed with quick return call and friendly support from tech. He came to conclusion that i require new top auger, new more powerful motor and associated hardware which they will ship. Problem was I couldn't give him serial # which is inside hopper lid. Didn't want to chance another jam by opening lid. After stove was shut at end of weekend I got info tech needs and have since left voicemail with that info. I will post my success at a fix by their suggestions or my returning stove to Lowes. Bye for now

A follow-up to my last post. I received my new auger motor and shaft but chose not to install these parts. Seeing that stove was only on its 3rd bag of pellets I wasn't prepared to start fixing this thing so I ultimately returned it Lowes and was offered their top of the line Englander single auger stove. The new exhaust configuration cost me more time and money but so far so good. Burned 3 bags of pellets each of the past couple weekends with no issues. Anything above a setting of 2 and the fan will cycle itself automatically to dissapate heat build up. Fan is quite loud but tolerable, and after 24 hour burn glass is very dirty and ashes have to be cleaned out. In conclusion, this stove performs much better and gives peace of mind compared to the 2 auger stove

mine worked fine for four months, and I cleaned it everyday due to allergies. Now it seems the top auger isn't working I will call home depot today to hear their position on why they sell a stove with such a bad reputation and short working period before all h breaks ;loose. People have replaced their wood, propane stoves with the hype that these stoves are the answer to their prayers.
When they work they are great, but 5 months of work before you start to circle the bowl is a really sad performance record. And we kept ours sparkling clean! When it seems too good to be true, applies here, back to wood I guess. NOT ENGLANDER, Vermont CASTINGS has a much better reputation. Too bad I didn't have the Internet before we bought it/

Longest story short as possible... these stoves STINK! This stove started coding. We went through all of the troubleshooting possible. Tried repeatedly to get through to customer service... always just busy signal. Contacted them through email, received rude responses. Finally on the last night when it coded and I couldn't get it to start up to go through cool off cycle, it caused a fire in my house. Went through the BBB and the Attorney General. The head of customer service went out of his way to avoid us. He lied repeatedly to all people involved, even to the BBB when he stated he wouldn't work with him to get this issue resolved. When in actuality, he never called us back. This stove was FAR less than a year old. It's crap. It was pulled out of the house by the fire department. They awful customer service leader, finally passed us back to The Home Depot for a refund even though there's a tag in the stove which clearly states go back to the manufacturer with any issues on this stove... save your money. this has nothing to do with politics as some people thought to drag into it above. This has nothing to do with our inability to fix the stove or troubleshoot. This has to do with a completely defective stove and a company who produces crap product... then tries to run when you expect them to stand behind it. DON"T waste your money...!

I have had the augers go out three times in the 5 months I've owned my England's Summer's Heat. They do not grease the bearings on the auger motors and the augers freeze up. Customer service insists that their bearings do not need grease--wrong! I wil admit though, that they sent me a new motor for the bottom auger, free.

I have not had the problems that I see here. Yes, I have had a couple problems with the stove, but waqs fixed pretty fast. The service was great! It does take a little time to get someone if it is in the middle ofheating season some times. I have bought 10 of these stoves for my self and family members and every one loves them. The biggest problem I see out there, and its not just with Englander, is that to many people use crappy pellets. The cheapest price pellets are not the BEST! This seems to be the biggest problem I see when getting other peoples stoves working for them. I mean Harmon, Neopolen, Bixby and others. The main problem is pellets and next is people do not know how to adjust them..They tell you in the book to burn a good quality pellet. Try it, You will see the difference!

I have had my Englandar Pellet stove 5 times within one year, the first repair was after the third time I used it. All my problems are with the tip auger, it stops working and needs to be taken apart to get it to work again. I've even changed the motor on it and am waiting now for another motor. Today their representative was surprised that I'm having so much trouble with the auger, interesting, I'm sure they've heard that complaint before especially after reading the complaints here. It is costing me $50 every time my mechanic walks in the door! All these repairs should NOT happen with a brand new machine, I feel that I've wasted a thousand dollars plus the cost of the repairs. The representative told me today that if the auger continues to stop functioning, he will find a way to resolve the situation. Yeah, by that time the warranty will be expired and he'll say "Sorry!". If I have any more problems, I'm going to my attorney and the BBB, then we'll see who is "Sorry!". I think we need a class action suit against the shoddy practices of this company.

I have had many problems with this Englander stove. I have fixed it several times myself and the latest problem is it keeps blowing the 6 amp fuse without any obvious cause, no auger or fan jams for example. A buddy has a Harmon and hasn't touched anything in 20 years, it just works. Do not waste your money on an Englander stove, the design sucks and the quality is equally bad. Spend the extra money and get a quality pellet stove or spend a lot of time fixing these hunks of crap.

In response clf345 dated 30 oct .2012. Why did you buy an ENGLANDER stove? These stoves are sold as, DIY stoves. If you are not able to maintain this stove, and have to call a service man. All I can say you bought the wrong stove. I have been using two of these pellets stoves from ENGLANDER, since 2008, and they have been everything that they were advertised, to be.Great stoves, easy to maintain, and I can't say enough about, their tech people, for the couple of times that I've called them. These stoves are sold for the prices they charge, because they are for those who want to do the simple maintenance on them. They build the stoves on a very simple method. IT IS CALLED THE KISS METHOD.(keep it simple stupid). And all i can say, If someone recommended this stove to you, they steered you wrong. Forget the BBB, AND CLASS ACTION SUITS, there are no grounds for any of these. If you want a stove with no work on your part, you should have payed, more for some of those flashier high end stoves.you get what you pay for. gerry v. in maine

I have a 1999 25-PDVC that came with the house when i bought it. (Now I know why!) The seller said it would burn you outta the house. Not a chance. I'm shivering ten feet away. I ran a ton thru it last year of softwood pellets, didnt put a dent in the oil bill. I've tested 3 other brands of hardwood pellets (that others, that have Harmans, swear burn too hot) testing it and trying to fine tune the burn rate and draft controls. Talked to England twice, on hold both times for at least 15 mins. They told me to "Hold in both Blower buttons while plugging it in. It will display a letter in the Heat Range window.

"A" is a Setting for Low heat
"B" is a Setting for Medium heat
"C" is a Setting for Maximum Heat
"D" No idea (he wouldnt tell me)

He told me "Factory Preset Settings" are "B", 6 Low Fuel Feed, 1 Low Air Burn, 1 Air on Temp

I tried these settings with no difference in heat output. Although, I did notice that the window was sooting up and I was going through a bag in under 10 hours. My mechanical background told me it was running too rich...too may pellets and not enough air. Upon the second call, he agreed with me and said to set it, B, 3, 9, 1. Did it, with no real difference again in heat output again. I now have a thermometer sticking in the top of the stove vent trying to dial it in, but ready to pull my hair out. I'm quickly getting ready to sell it for scrap metal and buy a Harman...especially since their made 20 miles away.

As one of the other people wrote...they do blow Donkey Balls.

This stove runs 6 months a year 24/7 I do the maintenance and service as per the manual and have never had a failure. this stove has a manufature date of 2000. If I could rate it zero stars I would, this stove was horrible! First the ignitor wouldn't light so in order for us to fix it we had to take the whole thing apart, the third time starting it up the top auger broke! We were able to fix that, then 20 days later it broke again, calling for 3 days straight to get through to someone on customer service it was constantly busy, horrible service! called someone else in the englander, but different department and they said to call customer service and keep trying cause it was there busy time, I would think they should extend there hours or work saturdays! I wish i did research on this before buying this stove! WARNING! DO NOT PURCHASE!

I have a 25-PAF Englander . Im thinking its the only one made because no one else posts about it nor have I seen a youtube video or anything else . It is made by the same company and as far as I know, the 25PVDC took the place of the 25-PAF . I own a 3000 sq foot home in Michigan . I did the install myself ( this furnace was manufactured in 1993 ) . I bought it used this year . I keep mine at 3 and 3 on the settings and it maintains a temp of 75 ish while it is 20 degrees outside . It is ducted into the exsisting furnace ductwork . I havent had any issues what so ever . I have burned wood for several years and this stove has been nothing but great so far . Its sad to hear of all the problems that everyone has had with these stoves . My feelings are this ... if you get the opportunity to use or buy a 25-PAF ... do so ! Its been a great experience for me . If anyone has any additional info on the 25PAF, I would love to hear from you .

I Have the englander pellet stove with the removeable burn box, This thing burned terrible and left a "Brick" of hard caked ash at the bottom of the burn box, If iI cleand it out, the stove would burn good for 8 hours or so then " weak flame and by the next morning the brick was back and the inside of the stove was all black and sooted up
I figgured that there wasn't enough "air preasure (or motion ) " Going thru the Bottom hole and was not properly 'ejecting the ash " after the pellet was mostly burned
TO FIX THIS PROBLEM: I took the removeable burn box to the "fastener" section of lowes and found VERY SHORT flat head screws that fight snuggly into the holes that are on the SIDES of the burn box
I put screws in 6 of the holezs on "feed side of the burn box
This redistributed the "air flow to under the pellets and ejects the unburnt ash and keeps the box clean
IT does make some " sparking" unburnt fines blow out of the burn box but since the embers remain in the ash pan the heat they produce is still heating the house so no worry
The first year I used the stove I burned 6 ton of pellets and was cleaning the stove twice a day
AFTER THIS alteration I burn 4 ton and the heat is great
Maybe I should contact englander with this solution
I just recieved a replacement burn box from englander
There are still the same holes and pattern
I tried the un-altered replacement and
-You Guessed it -- Still the same hard brick inb the bottom with 1 overnight burn
I put new screws in the holes and
Tada 2 day burns with the pot still clean !

I have had my stove for about 3 years and have had nothing but trouble since the moment I put it in. I have had to replace motors 4 times, and when they sent the parts it took 8 days to get it! It gets cold here in Wisconsin and they were in no hurry to help. This winter is no exception. I have had nothing but trouble again and now for the 3rd fix this winter my upper auger isn't working. My husband passed away in October and now I have to figure out this crap myself. I am disabled and it is hard for me to do this kind of stuff. I cannot afford an electrician or to order all the parts, because of course the warranty is expired. What am I supposed to do now? I can't afford another stove and I can't afford to fix the one I have.

I am in the same boat as Vikingfan29 - I am not married, so no guy to deal with this. I have the 49TRC22 - Corn/Pellet that should heat 2200 sq ft. It does - when it works. Had it 5 yrs. now - replaced auger motor, both fans and the stirrer motor 2x so far - am now putting in Auger motor #3 - and have to call Englander - new one not working either. Betting it's one of the few remaining parts I haven't replaced yet. And they're the ones that are hardest to get to!

They discontinued this thing 2 yrs. after I bought it - now I know why. This model never should have made it out their door - period. I am ditching it as soon as I can afford something else. So glad I invested in an old "no frills, no fuss" coal stove - at least I have some sort of heat while this POC is out of commission.

I've had an Englander for 9 years now have had very little problems like my auger motor quit after about 4 years but this stove is our primary heat source it runs 24/7 in the heating season and I live in Massachusetts so thats longer than summer in most places. Keeps my house at 72 on the lowest feed setting. Other than the auger motor (big whoop)oh and a melted vac line there's been no problem. So either those of you that are ### have no clue how the stoves work or you do have a legit ###. We'll never know I'm sure we're only hearing one side of the story but from my own personal experience with Englander it was perfect customer service on the phone and I love the stove I bought...

Trust me Scott - we do have a legit ###. I had a smaller Englander before this one - it was great, had it more than 10 yrs. and like you, I had minimal issues. This one is a "corn/pellet" unit and requires a stirrer - and the manual says - take stirrer out if NOT using corn. Do that - it runs like crap. It will barely burn, puts out a ton of half burned pellets, ash flies everywhere and it smokes you out of the house. Put the stirrer in- if you can get it to light, you might get the pellets to burn, if the auger works long enough to ship them down to the pot. It also DOES NOT have their "patented dual auger system". They should have recalled it - nothing works well on it - instead they dumped it on a bunch of unsuspecting consumers as a well tested dependable unit. I haven't even tried putting corn in it - I doubt it would last 1 bag, auger and stirrer would probably jam and die trying to turn through hard corn. It barely manages pellets! I think if you stick with their "old tried and true" model, you might be OK - just don't buy anything they've designed recently - definitely avoid anything labeled "mutli-fuel" or "new and improved!
Also if they are so great - why is it that most of the used stoves for sale in Craigslist in my area are Englander? A good stove should be hard to find used because nobody wants to give them up.

Hello People; I have had my Englander Model 28-3500 wood stove for 8 or more years.. I have had others and as a welder maintenance tech i have also built my own. I LOVE THIS THING ! . May be you people are having problems with Pellet stoves----- That is a horse of a different color. Pellet stove have many moving parts as with any thing with moving parts and dirt and duast ( ash) you will need regular maintenance. If you are not mechanical then you are at a loss. You either need to learn what you need or hire someone who does. This goes for car maintenance and all things you own. BUT the add on wood furnace is so basic it is pretty much fool proof. The thermostat you are complaining about --that you replaced once, is a simple two ( 2 ) wire connection. You have replaced it once so you know how. To buy one ( a new one ) you can go to Grainger or E-Bay and type in snap thermostats and you can buy one cheap enough. I will say this " If any of you have a Englander model 28-3500 or model, 50-TRW35, or a 50-SHW35, and want to sell it and are in Wisconsin I will buy it ! My son is looking for one. The only thing I am going to change on mine is I am going to add a second burn gasification air in let to it to make it more efficient . I'm sorry you seem to be ungrateful for the stove you purchased but just think about it. What do you actually know and what can YOU actually do as far as repairs ? I you cannot answer that you can do the work then you should not have gotten into it in the first place. Many people have thought that " hey i'm gonna get a wood stove and save a lot of money ! ". Until they find out how much work it is.. here is my E-Mail if you live in WI. and want to sell your wood stove . emilyandbill@msn.com Thanks for reading this and I apologize, if I hurt anyone's feelings. BILL

Bill - No hurt feelings - but understand that most can't use a wood stove - no chimney, local regs, etc. I am lucky in that I do have a chimney and yes, I do have a manual operated coal stove (from the 70s) that I wouldn't trade in for all the $$ in the world. Unfortunately, I bought the pellet stove first because I wasn't sure what was involved with coal - bit the big one and tried it after the 3rd year using the Englander crap. My Englander pellet stove has cost me over $400 EACH YEAR in repairs - in return, for maybe 2 mths. a year of use. This has nothing to do with "Pellet stove have many moving parts ...will need regular maintenance. If you are not mechanical... You either need to... or hire someone who does." This is - it is a lemon by design and they knew it when they put it on the market - and doesn't work properly regardless of knowledge or ability to repair. I had a pellet stove before, so am not a "newbie". I know what should and shouldn't happen - $400/yr. in repairs EVERY YEAR (it's only 5 yrs. old!) is not what you expect out of a unit you paid $3000 for.

Paid good money for my englander too. What a mistake! Have had it for 6 years now and finally decided to get rid of it, Ive finally had enough! I will let everyone I know not to buy a pellet stove. What a joke. Problem after problem. And when it does break down and shut off it pumps smoke into the house. englander says this is normal and to just open a window. its frickin -20 out! Bad thing is, I usually only use mine when it gets really cold and probably go threw 15-20 bags a year. Lucky its not my primary heat. Im putting in a wood stove

I am from a local small company, and last week we ordered 2 auger motors, one because the bottom one was broken, the other just to replace them both, so we wouldn't have to deal with it later. We received the package and one of the auger motors electrical post was broken.
The only thing we were unhappy with, was the fact that we were on hold for 25 minutes. When I finally got in touch with their parts service department, the man I spoke to was very understanding. Most importantly, he was down to earth. We all know the worst part about talking to someone from a customer service line is they are normally unfriendly and argumentative. But this man sent us out a new motor auger free of all charges, ad got to us in 2 days.

I purchased my Englander six years ago, since I live in Vermont it gets a lot of use. During this period my best friend and my son have also purchased one on my advice, all three of us are pleased with our purchases. I did after five years of use have to replace the blower motor as I was getting a bearing screech at times. That was $130. and change, less than one furnace checkup annually on mu furnace
I have a SIX YEAR OLD OIL FURNACE SITTING AND COLLECTING RUST, originally I bought the Englander for a BACK UP, the pellet stove has been my primary heat since then. I can't understand the complaints as I have received terrific service from the techs at Englander as has my friend when he had some pellets that had pieces of metal in them that jammed his auger. The tech walked him through every step until he was finished. That's three out of three happy with their stoves. I recommend this stove to any one that wants a good stove at a decent price. The most important thing to know is regardless of how good your stove is, it's only as good as the quality of the pellets you use. There is some real trash out there with the premium label that will make clinkers that are blamed on the stove.

I bought my 55-shp22 at Lowes just this past February, spent my whole tax return, got it home and room air blower wasn't working, called customer service they sent me a new blower. New blower works, i have a really good fire inside but the air being blown is cool i can put my face an inch from the air being blown and its not even warm. i know other people with pellet stoves and you cant even put your hands there its so hot. I definitely am not happy with the craftsmanship of this stove
