This in regards to tags renewal Order #CA81949, Order date 8/29/2024
Tag #DP318TX
On August, 29, 2024, I tried to renew my car registration online and somehow, when I typed the address of the official California DMV, I was phished by Etags site. After filing in the renewal section information, they immediately charged my credit card account $392.28, I immediately canceled the transaction, by e-mailing, calling, and snail mail, without immediate response. It was very hard to find their phone number, so I contacted the credit card company, I explained my situation and they immediately connected me with Etags on a three-way phone conversation, Etags representative, credit card representative and myself. Their representative acknowledged that she received my cancellation authorization, she stated she was going to reverse the funds back to the credit card within 30 minutes, I requested confirmation number for the reversal and she stated they do not give confirmations for reversal, but not to worry she was going to reverse the entry within 30 minutes. When she told me that, that they did not give confirmation numbers for reversal, confirmed my suspicion, that I was dealing with very suspicious characters. The following day I called Etags representative, to the number I was given by my credit card company and Etags phone number takes you to a voice mail, and no one reply (tried several times) again I contacted my credit card company, and the rep., tried to connect me on a three-way phone conversation with their customer service representative, with no avail. I finally was able to get in contact with Etags representative and she told me she was going to reverse the charge to my credit card, and not to worry. I waited for the credit reversal, several days and no credit reversal was noted. After numerous times of calling Etags, I finally was able to speak with their rep., and she claimed that the entry was non-refundable, but she was willing to give me partial credit, I told her, it was unacceptable, therefore I was going to dispute the entry. After disputing the entry with my credit card company, they only credit the account $37.90, I recovered $337 from DMV, because I had paid the fees through the real DMV, myself, and I’m still awaiting for $17.38, to be credited back to my credit card account, as promised $392.28, per Pamela.
I appreciate your immediate attention to this request.
Respectfully,
Irma Hammond
