I selected WellCare as my Medicare Part D provider last year because they had the best pricing. Unfortunately, they use Express Scripts as their online pharmacy. Express Scripts is the most difficult company that I have every had the displeasure of working with. My doctor sent them a prescription for a fairly common medication and they refused to fill it (even though it was covered by WellCare) because they said my doctor had not responded to their fax. My doctor said that they had done so and I was stuck in the middle with no way to resolve the problem. Eventually, I got the meds from Amazon Pharmacy at a modest premium price. More recently, another doctor sent Express Scripts a prescription for medication for a skin cancer medication. Once again, Express Scripts has refused to send my medication saying that they need "pre-approval". If that medication is not approved by WellCare, I am able to pay the cost, but Express Scripts still refuses to send the medication. I will never use them in the future - they treat their customers as trash.
Recommendation: Avoid Express Scripts at All Costs
My recommendation would be to go over the head to WellCare, your Medicare Part D provider, and let them know about your problems with Express Scripts. They should be in a position to aid you. You can also consider filing more grievances with Medicare if the problems continue or change drug stores if the plan allows. Document all interactions because it might be useful in settling the dispute.
