Purchased this GE unit less than three years ago. Enamel chipping, paint peeling, rusting. Called consumer complaint dept and was told to stop using immediately (arcing is dangerous) and they would provide a replacement unit for $800 ( originally $2400) if I would commit within 7 days. Could not simply give me a new unit since I did not purchase extended warranty. Called the number they gave me to research extended warranty and that contact said this was manufacturer defect and would not be covered under ext. warranty. Called the repair dept for GE and he said product was safe to use and that the chipping, rusting, etc. was all cosmetic. Who would pay $1600 for a microwave oven unit for less than three years! Then trow away another $800 for the same unit, knowing it would happen again? Yikes!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
It is 3 years old and rust forms because the paint got chipped. That is damage, not a defect.
