I have an auto loan with gecu and I made the payment back in January, well in March I found out that the loan was "behind" because the January payment was applied wrong (it was applied directly to the principal instead of to the principal and intrest) so my February payment was applied to the fees from January. (Of course no one told me this when I was face to face with them making the February payment) so when I tried making the next payment in March I was told the loan was behind. I talked to a lady named Sandra who reversed the January payment and applied it the correct way and told me I was up to date. I then asked her if there was anyway to skip March's payment because I was a little tight for money. She told me that I would be able to skip march AND April (I was told you could skip 2 payments a year). I went ahead with that option and thought nothing more of it because she had told me that it had been approved and I was good to go. (I asked multiple times) however today when I went I to pay mays payment i was shocked to learn my loan was past due by 90 days and they were issuing a repo order on my truck. I was told I could speak with a finacial manager and they would be with me in 5 minutes...an hour and a half later I had to leave to go to work. I then got a call from a "man" named Tony who I went over all of this with. Well instead of listing to anything g I had to say he outright called me a liar because the "research department is very good" and a lady named Rita (who I've never spoken with) has been doing her job a " very long time" he then told me that there has not been a full payment since October because apperntly the payment amount had changed due to insurance but Noone told me anything only "letters we're sent out" which I have never received. So I the end the only thing I got from them was horrendous customer service and to be belittled. To top it all off I STILL have no idea what's going on with my account.
I had almost the identical thing happened to me. They agreed not to repo my car if I paid all these ridiculous fees. I paid them because I need my car for my kids and family. I am so disgusted with GECU. I paid fees that I never should have had to plus extra interest because they've misapplied my payments on two separate occasions. Like you I was also told I could skip two payments a year but when I did, the same happened to me. If I didn't pay all this extra money they said they'd repo my car. I explained everything and the rep finally said that frankly he didn't believe they said I could skip any payment. Gecu should be closed down.
