Thank you Grand River Poodles for our amazing red-headed pup, Fancy!
My little red-headed pup is the absolute best! She's smart, mischievous, and always brings so much joy to our home. I want to give a big thank you to Grand River Poodles for providing us with such a wonderful furry friend. My amazing wife, Annette, bought our girl from them without any issues. When we first saw her, she was named Willow, but we couldn't help but notice how much she resembled Reba McEntire. So, we decided to name her Fancy, after that famous song.

And wouldn't ya know it, I ended up fallin' head over heels for this adorable apricot puppy. I couldn't resist takin' it home with me!

Warning: Unethical Practices and Deceitful Behavior - Avoid Grand River Poodles for Your Dog's Sake
This breeder, Grand River Poodles, is not to be trusted. They engage in unethical practices and will deceive you into purchasing a dog with disabilities. I unfortunately fell victim to their deceit when they sold me a dog with a severe grade 4 luxating patella. Despite my attempts to address the issue and hold them accountable for their poor breeding practices, they refused to acknowledge their wrongdoing and provide any form of compensation. It is clear that their sole motivation is money, as they prioritize their own financial gain over the well-being of the animals they sell.
One of the most concerning aspects of dealing with this breeder is their complete lack of integrity. They will take your hard-earned money and lie to your face without any remorse. It is evident that they have no regard for the trust placed in them by potential buyers. They operate without offering any health guarantees or providing written documentation, which conveniently absolves them of any responsibility or liability. This lack of transparency is a major red flag and should serve as a warning to anyone considering purchasing a dog from them.
The severity of the issue with the dog I purchased was confirmed by multiple veterinarians, who were appalled by the breeder's actions. In fact, these professionals went as far as recommending that Grand River Poodles have their breeding license revoked. This is a serious indictment of their practices and speaks volumes about the level of care and consideration they have for the animals they breed.
In light of my personal experience and the advice of reputable veterinarians, I strongly urge you to steer clear of this breeder. Instead, invest your time and money in finding a breeder who genuinely cares about the well-being of their dogs and is committed to producing healthy and happy animals. It is crucial to do thorough research and choose a breeder who can provide you with the necessary guarantees and documentation to ensure that you are making a responsible and informed decision.
In conclusion, Grand River Poodles is nothing more than a scammer who prioritizes profit over the welfare of the dogs they sell. Their unethical practices, refusal to take responsibility, and lack of transparency should serve as a warning to anyone considering purchasing a dog from them. Protect yourself and your future pet by finding a breeder who genuinely cares and can provide the necessary assurances.
Misleading Claims and Lack of Contract: Beware of Grand River Poodles
My old man and I were all set to get ourselves a cute little mini poodle from this breeder, Grand River Poodles. We checked out their website and it said that the poodle was all fancy-schmancy AKC registered. But when we were getting down to the nitty-gritty details, we found out that the doggo wasn't actually AKC registered. Can you believe it? And to top it off, the breeder wouldn't even give us a proper contract like other breeders do. She was all like, "Nah, I ain't gonna put that in writing." I mean, come on! If you say you stand behind your poodles' health, why not back it up with some ink on paper?
I gotta tell ya, this lady got all bent out of shape when I asked her to do what she promised on her own dang website. Can you believe the nerve? Needless to say, we didn't end up buying a poodle from her. And let me tell ya, I wouldn't recommend anyone else to do so either. This breeder, she's as shady as they come. Can't trust a word she says. So if you're thinking about getting a poodle from Grand River Poodles, think twice, my friend. Save yourself the headache and find yourself a more honest breeder. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
Unfulfilled Promises: AKC Papers Delayed Until Legal Intervention
Contrary to what Grand River Poodles said about giving the AKC papers to the buyer, which was me, and the puppy being paid for with my money, and then given to my daughter to drive all the way to Cleveland to pick up the puppy. We had a bunch of promises in emails saying that the AKC papers were on their way and we would receive them the next day. But that next day never came, not until we decided to hire a lawyer to get involved and write a letter to Breeder Katona, demanding that she send us the papers or face legal consequences. We specifically told her to send the paperwork to our daughter and provided her with the addresses of both our homes. She made more promises, along with some snarky remarks, but still no papers were sent, until she finally met the deadline set by the attorney.
Fantastic Experience with Grand River Poodles - Top-Notch Poodles and Excellent Service!
I gotta say, I am over the moon with my purchase from Grand River Poodles. Let me tell ya, Roberta, the lady in charge, she really knows her stuff. She kept me in the loop for months leading up to my big buy.
So, get this, a few months before I made my move, Roberta actually gave me a ring to let me know that the mama had popped out some adorable little pups. She even sent me some pics, but I gotta be honest, it was way too early for me to make a decision. But let me tell ya, after 5 long weeks, I finally found my perfect match. I named her Peanut, ain't that just the cutest?
Now, here's the thing, Roberta told me that Peanut wouldn't be ready to come home until she was about 8 or 9 weeks old. We settled on 9 weeks since she had to take a flight all the way to Pensacola, Florida. I gotta admit, I was a bit worried about her flying all that way, but let me tell ya, as soon as I scooped her up, all my worries melted away. She came in a brand spankin' new crate, complete with a teeny tiny bed and a cozy blanket. Talk about luxury!
Of course, I wanted to make sure my little Peanut was in tip-top shape, so I took her to the vet a few days later. And guess what? The doc gave her a clean bill of health! Can you believe it? I couldn't be happier with my spunky little AKC registered pup.
All in all, my experience with Grand River Poodles has been nothin' short of fantastic. Roberta really knows how to take care of her fur babies, and I couldn't be more grateful. If you're lookin' for a top-notch poodle, look no further than Grand River Poodles. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
Disappointing Experience with Grand River Poodles: AKC Papers Missing, Deceptive Practices
I wanted to surprise my husband with a Toy Poodle, 'cause he always talked about wanting one. So, I asked my adult daughter to help me find a breeder near Cleveland, OH, 'cause we live in Ohio. She didn't really do her homework and didn't bother to read the reviews here. We ended up paying $2500 in cash for this pup, and our daughter was so excited to be part of the surprise that she forgot to get the AKC papers when she bought it. Usually, we always get the papers when we buy an AKC puppy, but this time, nope. My daughter sent a text to this lady named Roberta Katona, who sells her pups under the name of Grand River Poodles. We were smart enough to keep the texts as proof 'cause she kept promising the AKC papers and the receipt for $2500. But guess what? We never got those papers! Can you believe it? It's like she was just foolin' us or somethin'. We bought the pup at the end of March, and she didn't even bother to file for the AKC papers until July 15, 2022. We had to contact all these fancy organizations like the Ohio Attorney General's office, the AKC, the BBB in Cleveland, and even a private attorney before she finally did the paperwork. And get this, the AKC even went to her house for a visit on July 15th. Why did we keep pushin' for those AKC papers? Well, 'cause she advertised the pups as AKC, but it turns out she didn't really register 'em. She probably just wanted to save some extra cash. Most folks wouldn't care, but when I'm payin' $2500 for an AKC pup, I want what I paid for, ya know? We didn't even want the pup for breedin' purposes, we got him neutered right away. But Roberta Katona, she's a real piece of work. She sent texts to our daughter, but then she told our attorney that she had no idea who we were. Can you believe that? She sold a pup to our daughter, but she didn't know who we were? She had our name and address, so it shouldn't have mattered whose name was on the papers. And when she found out we checked with the AKC about her kennel, she had the nerve to text us sayin', "I am not going to be threatened." What a joke! Later on, the AKC said she told 'em she registers her litters quarterly. Well, why didn't she just tell us that? Instead, she kept lyin' to us. One time, my daughter asked her when the receipt and papers would arrive, and she said, "Tomorrow." But she knew she hadn't even applied for 'em at the AKC. Another lie, can you believe it? I definitely don't recommend this breeder, Roberta Katona of Grand River Poodles in Perry, Ohio. She may seem all nice and honest on her website and in person, but that hasn't been our experience. Oh, and just so you know, her vet's office said she brought in "several" litters on the same day our pup was there. Just thought I'd mention it. Anyway, we love our pup, he's happy and smart and spoiled rotten. But seriously, do your research before you buy from Ms. Katona. There are plenty of other good, honest breeders out there. We just haven't found her to be one of 'em.
Disappointing Experience with Mrs. Katona: Missing Papers, Poor Condition of Puppy, and Unsatisfactory Refund Policy
Mrs. Katona lives in Ohio and we live in Missouri. We bought a light apricot toy poodle puppy from her. She advertised the puppy for $1,300.00 without AKC papers on www.puppyfind.com and her website www.grandriverpoodles.com. We paid her $1,500.00 because she promised us the puppy with her AKC limited papers. We also paid $200.00 for the AKC papers. She claims to be a top breeder who has won many shows and has a high standing with AKC. After paying $1,500.00 plus $375.00 for shipping, along with all the PayPal charges, I ended up paying close to $2,000.00.
According to her website, when we received the puppy, we were supposed to get a complete vet exam, health certificate, airline approved crate, a soft bed, and food and water. The ad on www.puppyfind.com also mentioned that I would receive a copy of the puppy's pedigree.
However, when the puppy arrived, the crate was used, the feeding bowls were bent, and the so-called soft bed was actually a used kitchen rag with holes in it. There was no food or water in any of the bowls. Moreover, the puppy had not been bathed or groomed, and there were dried feces stuck near her anal area. The only paperwork I received was the health certificate for travel. I never received the vet exam, soft bed, AKC papers, or pedigree papers that were promised to me.
When I contacted Mrs. Katona to inquire about the missing papers, including AKC papers, shot records, and vet records, she claimed there were no vet records. I asked her how I was supposed to know what shots the puppy had received, as she was supposed to be up to date on them. She then told me that she is the vet herself. However, her ads and website clearly state that her puppies are thoroughly checked by a local vet.
Furthermore, she informed me that in order to obtain the AKC papers, I would have to pay an additional fee of $500.00. I questioned her about the extra $200.00 I had already paid for the limited AKC papers, but she never provided a satisfactory response. So now, I have paid for a puppy without a pedigree, AKC papers, or shot records. I am left wondering what exactly I paid $1,500.00 for.
When I expressed my dissatisfaction and requested a full refund, Mrs. Katona's response was disappointing. She stated that she would deduct $300.00 as a non-refundable fee and would not refund the PayPal charges. Additionally, she mentioned that after receiving the dog back, she would need to take it to a local vet for a checkup, despite previously claiming to be the vet herself. She also mentioned that the vet bill would be deducted from my refund. Therefore, it seems that I may only receive $300.00-400.00 back from the nearly $2,000.00 I paid.
I even gave Mrs. Katona another chance by calling her back and offering to let everything go if she sent me the shot records and AKC papers. However, her response was simply, "there are no papers for you."
Fortunately, I have kept all my paperwork, including PayPal receipts, copies of the ads on www.puppyfind.com, and the website advertisement for the puppy she sold us.
