HEXRPG Mods Need to Chill Out: A Disappointing Experience
I've been a member of HEXRPG for a good 4 years now, and I gotta say, it's been a rollercoaster ride. I've always tried to follow the rules and do my part, even becoming a HEX mentor and participating in all sorts of events and prize-winning activities. But let me tell you, HEX can be a real stress-fest sometimes. It's like the admins and moderators think we have nothing else going on in our lives and can just drop everything to respond to owls and posts as soon as they come in. I mean, come on, we all have lives outside of HEX, right?
But apparently, the mods don't see it that way. They've been sending me owls left and right, accusing me of "neglecting" my position and whatnot. I've tried to explain that I've been super busy with other stuff, but they just ignore it and act all professional and stuff. It's like they don't even care about us regular folks.
And let me tell you, as a former HEX mentor, I can say that most of the Welcome Owls I sent out were never even read or responded to. And a lot of new users don't even bother logging back in after their first visit. I mean, can you blame them? If they're greeted with a boring black background and nothing interesting to look at, of course they're gonna lose interest. I remember when I first joined HEX, I was like, "What the heck is this place?"
But seriously, the mods need to chill out. They're just regular people like the rest of us, doing their own thing and not really checking up on much. And yet they call us out for the smallest things, like posting a one-word response or something. I mean, come on, there are way more important issues out there, like racism and ignorant comments. They need to get their priorities straight and stop being so petty.
And can we talk about the whole "responding to owls immediately" thing? Like, seriously, if I don't answer an owl within two hours, it's not the end of the world. I live on the other side of the planet, for crying out loud. If they really care about our safety and well-being, they should let us sleep for a few hours, you know?
Overall, I'm just really disappointed with the way the mods handle their power. It's like they're more concerned with whether someone wrote a paragraph of bull than with actual issues that affect the community. If that's how they choose who to call out and punish, then this site is seriously messed up. We need mods who actually care about the users and the community, not just their own egos.
Navigating the Realities of HEXRPG: A Review of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Yo, I gotta give a shout-out to my homies who are trying to keep it real with their reviews of HEXRPG. I've been a part of this site for seven years, and let me tell you, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. I've seen some messed up stuff go down, and as a mod, I've had a front-row seat to some of the drama.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love HEX and the people on it. But I can't pretend like everything is perfect. There have been some serious issues with mistreatment, abuse of power, and discrimination. And while the staff is trying to do better, they've still caused a lot of pain to many users.
I'm not saying that the staff is all bad, though. They're actually pretty great, and they're making an effort to improve. But that doesn't excuse the harm that's been done. And let's be real, some of the reviews on here are just straight-up insulting to the staff. That's not cool.
But at the same time, we can't ignore the negative reviews. They're coming from real people who have had real experiences. And if you're part of a marginalized community, you need to be careful on this site. There are bigots here, and sometimes their views are defended, which is total BS.
So yeah, HEXRPG is a great place, but it's not perfect. Take all the reviews with a grain of salt, and don't let anyone silence you if you have valid criticisms.
HEXRPG Review: Disappointing Experience with Rude Staff and Unfair Punishments
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with HEXRPG. I signed up a few years back, hoping to have a good time, but it was so dang complicated that I just gave up and never came back. I forgot my username, password, and even the email I used to register. But recently, a friend convinced me to give it another shot, so I signed up again with the same email. I earned a bunch of galleons and items, but I made sure to send a message to the staff explaining my situation and letting them know that I was using a new account because I couldn't access my old one. I even filled out a form explaining everything.
But when I got a reply from the staff, I was pretty disappointed. They said I was cheating and that I was going to be expelled and sent to Azkaban (which, by the way, is a pretty harsh punishment for a silly game). They didn't even give me a chance to explain myself! I tried to tell them that I just got locked out of my old account and that they could disable it if they wanted, but they just said no and insisted that I use my first account. They completely ignored my multiple accounts form and just accused me of cheating.
Now, I'm banned from the site, and they even recorded all my information - my email and all the private info I gave them when I signed up. In the email they sent me, they said not to even try creating a new account because they had logged my email and info. That's my email! They have no right to put it on some "bad list of emails" just because I did something they didn't like.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone. The staff are rude and unhelpful, and the whole experience was just a huge letdown. Don't waste your time on HEXRPG.

HEXRPG: A Once-Pleasant Experience Turned Disappointing Due to Rampant Bigotry
I became a member of HEXRPG back in early 2016 and I must say, it was a pretty decent experience for me. There were a few issues here and there, but overall, it was a pleasant experience. The site had a lot of activities to keep me engaged and I met a lot of friendly people there.
However, things took a turn for the worse in 2018 when I started seeing warnings from members in other forums and apps I use. They were advising people not to join HEXRPG, no matter how tempting it may seem, because of the rampant racist and LGBTphobic dogwhistles that were highly prominent on the site. I initially thought it was a bit exaggerated, but after a few months, I realized that it was indeed true.
I came across reviews from summer 2019 that discussed homophobia happening in the 'inclusive, accepting' forum during pride month. The mods were virtually silent, and this caused a lot of hurt to the more vulnerable members. I witnessed this with my own eyes, and it was deeply saddening. Since then, the issue has snowballed into a much bigger problem, and I find myself enjoying the site less and less.
There is so much racist, homophobic, and transphobic cr-p happening on HEXRPG, and the staff just stays neutral. They take the side of the oppressor, which is unacceptable. It's shocking and disappointing, especially in light of JK Rowling's recent transphobic remarks. I have seen transgender users begging for staff to take a stance and reporting people treating them like garbage, but staff just waters it down to 'differing opinions.' They focus on policing users over their tone when they are rightfully upset, all while cisgender people post in threads about how 'fun' it is to watch the 'drama' without caring about the obvious issues at hand.
It's deeply upsetting, and I would not recommend joining HEXRPG, especially not supporting them financially until they begin to value their vulnerable users being targeted by so much bigotry recently. If you do join, stay safe, and stay out of the forums because so many people there are so dehumanizing and cruel.
A Wild Ride: My Experience with the Confusing Rules and Harsh Consequences of a Popular Website
This website is pretty cool! I've been using it for a couple of years now and I have to say, it's been a pretty wild ride. When I first joined, I didn't really understand the rules. And then, just when I thought I had them down, they went and changed them all up on me! It was pretty confusing, to be honest. Some of the rules make sense, but others are just plain weird.
One thing I will say is that the consequences for breaking the rules are pretty harsh. You get one warning and then it's off to Azkaban with you! And let me tell you, Azkaban is no joke. You're banned from the site for a day or more! I've broken a lot of rules in my time on the site, but it's not because I'm a troublemaker. It's just that some of the rules are so darn confusing! And even if you accidentally break a tiny rule, you're still going to Azkaban.
I remember one time I accidentally typed a cuss word because I hit the wrong letter. And just like that, I was banned from the site for days! It was crazy. And the worst part is, you don't even get a chance to explain yourself before you get banned. It's like they don't even care about your side of the story.
But the absolute worst thing that ever happened to me was when I got banned for a year because of something someone else did. I was guilty by association, apparently. One of my roleplay partners said a bad word and I got kicked off the site for a whole year! I didn't even get a notice or anything. Just an email saying I was banned until June 02, 2020. It was so unfair. I get that rules are rules, but come on. I've accidentally broken a lot of them because they're so confusing! And the staff is just so biased and rude about it.
There are a couple of mods in particular who are just the worst. Cait and Pyper, I'm looking at you. They've punished me the most and the harshest. It's just not fair. And they're so rude about it too! One time my sister accidentally typed a cuss word and I got banned for a few days. When I came back, I wasn't even allowed in the roleplay central for six months! I tried to explain that it wasn't me, but they didn't care. If you break a rule on your account, it's your problem. And then there was the time my sister tried to make an account and got expelled. And because our accounts were connected, I got banned too! Their excuse was "no multiple accounts." It was ridiculous.
But you know what? Despite all of that, the people on the site are actually pretty amazing. I've made a lot of great friends and I even met my penpal on there! So if you can handle the confusing rules and the harsh consequences, it's definitely worth checking out. Just be prepared for some rude mods.
HEXRPG Review: Discrimination, Harassment, and Toxicity - A Warning to Potential Users
I don't usually write reviews, but I feel like I have to share my experience with HEXRPG. I've been watching the recent changes on the site, and while some have been for the better, many have been for the worse. I can't stay silent anymore. I've seen someone who has dedicated so much time to the site be turned on by certain members of a group who have caused a real mess. Unfortunately, good people have been caught in the middle.
If you're trans, a POC, or anything that doesn't fit the mold, I wouldn't recommend joining. I didn't believe this myself until this week. Staff members are quitting and saying it's a ploy. Other staff members are being alienated and accused of harassment when they were against it. The site has turned on the wrong people. I've watched someone who has COVID still fight alongside their moderator brothers and sisters, only to be thrown away. One user gave everything to the site, while another is brainwashing people. Yet, those trying to make HEX safe are being discarded like trash. HEX is disgusting for getting rid of people who are on the side of the users, not the side of the JKRIOP group that is very much like a cult. There are members of that group who want the right things, but HEX got rid of the problem child and is now going after anyone in that group. It's horrible what staff is doing to those who care about the site.
Unfortunately, my experience with this site has deteriorated since Lilian was allowed to ignite the flame. Now, another Lily is allowed to be a mod member who is openly phobic and against so many things. It seems like if you don't kiss the right [censored], you can't actually do your job and make a difference. I've watched two people be harassed to the point of almost committing suicide, one of whom is the mod member that was discarded so carelessly (and who is currently fighting COVID). They have even received death threats on other media from someone's group, but that seems to be okay. HEX is just a big game of he said/she said bull$#*!. It's said that only one person (who is banned from the site) was the harassing party, but others are taking the rap for him. I'm glad I'm just watching from the sidelines of it all. I can't imagine what staff would do to me as a regular user if they're willing to toss their own away.
Mixed feelings: Fun Harry Potter site, but staff is a dictatorship
I gotta say, I gave this site two stars instead of one because it's pretty darn fun. You can earn galleons and collect items from the Harry Potter universe, which is pretty cool. Plus, there are tons of fun people to talk to, contests to participate in, and events that happen throughout the year. And let's not forget about the HP classes you can take, like "Defense Against the Dark Arts" and "Herbology". You even get sorted into a house via a fun sorting quiz! It's all pretty exciting.
But, I gotta be real with you, the staff and mods on this site are a bit of a downer. They act like total dictators, which is a real shame. If you don't agree with them, they'll find a way to shut you down. And they make some pretty poor decisions, too. One of the staff members is constantly using foul language and being rude to anyone who doesn't share their views. It's pretty unbelievable that they even let someone like that be on the staff. And the hypocrisy is off the charts. If someone bullies you, but they agree with the staff's views, they get a pass. But if you criticize their views in a respectful way, they'll accuse you of bullying and try to silence you. It's pretty messed up.
And don't even get me started on their whole "Acceptance and celebrating diversity" thing. They only accept you if you agree with them. If not, you're in for a rough time. This site is basically a dictatorship. But hey, if you still want to join, just know that the staff is pretty incompetent and will try to crush you if you don't share their views. Not all the staff members are bad, though. There are some good ones. But unfortunately, the ones who hold the most power are the ones who are the most hypocritical and rude. So if you do decide to join, be careful and try to have fun despite the staff. They're not gonna make it easy for you.
HEXRPG Review: Biased Staff and Unempathetic Users Promote Hate Speech and Homophobia
I gotta say, HEXRPG is not the best place to be if you're looking for a fair and unbiased community. The staffs there are just plain unfair and biased, and they don't seem to care about standing up for what's right. It's like they're living in their own little bubble, completely oblivious to the fact that JKR's transphobic tweets have hurt millions of fans.
And it's not just the staffs, either. Some of the users on the site are just downright mean and unempathetic. They spew their transphobia and hate speech all over the place, and the staffs do nothing about it. They just sit there and make sugar-coated posts, pretending like they're doing something about it when they're really not.
But what really gets me is how the staffs treat the users who stand up for equal rights. They warn them and ban them for "bullying" and "hate speech", even though all they're doing is standing up against the transphobic people who are being disrespectful to trans+ folks. It's like the staffs don't want anyone to speak out against hate speech and homophobia, but they're perfectly fine with allowing it as long as it doesn't include a word on their "list of banned words".
And don't even get me started on the whole "public shaming" thing. Apparently, if you try to respectfully encourage someone to open up their mind and see why their "views" are wrong, you're guilty of "public shaming". It's like the staffs are trying to silence anyone who speaks out against hate speech and homophobia.
In short, if you're looking for a fair and unbiased community, HEXRPG is not the place to be. The staffs are biased and unfair, and they don't seem to care about standing up for what's right. If you want to speak out against hate speech and homophobia, you're better off finding a different community.
HEXRPG Review: Disappointing Attitudes Towards Bigotry and Poor Communication Skills
I gotta say, I was really hoping that HEXRPG would get their act together after all the drama that's been going on for the past year or so, but it looks like they're still struggling. The biggest issue I have with the site now is the rampant racism, homophobia, and transphobia that's been called out by other reviewers before me. It's really disappointing to see moderators turning a blind eye to this kind of hate speech just because they don't personally see it as an attack on minorities. And if you try to report the people who are actually making these hateful comments, you get accused of "ganging up" on them and threatened with punishment. It's like, what's the point of having a report feature if it's not going to be used to protect users from harassment and discrimination?
To make matters worse, there's been a troll running around making fake accounts and causing chaos on the site. They've been banned before, but they keep coming back with new usernames and spamming everyone with nonsense. And now they've even made a threat against the website itself. Now, I'm not saying that this troll is actually going to do anything, but any responsible organization would take a threat like this seriously and take steps to protect their users. But instead of being transparent and communicating with us about what's going on, the staff has been really vague and unhelpful. When I asked for an executive statement about the potential cyber threat, they basically told me to just use the report button if I see anything suspicious. Like, come on, that's not a real solution. We need to know what's going on and what steps are being taken to keep us safe.
It's really frustrating because I used to love HEXRPG. The community is usually really friendly and welcoming, and the site itself is super addictive. But lately, I've lost a lot of trust in the staff because of their outdated attitudes towards bigotry and their poor communication skills. I hate to give them a one-star rating, but I just can't ignore these issues.
HEXRPG Review: Fun Game, Toxic Community, and Abusive Mods
I gotta say, I've been playing HEXRPG for a while now and while it's a pretty cool game, there are definitely some issues that need to be addressed. For one thing, the community can be pretty toxic at times. If you have an unpopular opinion or voice a complaint, you're likely to get targeted by other players or even the mods themselves. And let me tell you, some of those mods can be downright rude and abusive. I've had a few run-ins with them myself and it's not a pleasant experience.
That being said, there are some mods who are actually pretty cool and treat players like human beings. Unfortunately, they're few and far between and often get lumped in with the rest of the staff. And don't even get me started on the multiple account thing. If you're on a VPN that shares an IP with another player, you're pretty much screwed. Even if you explain that it's just a family member playing, you still might get banned.
But despite all of that, I still enjoy playing HEXRPG. It's a fun game and there are some really cool features. However, if you're thinking about joining, just be aware that the community can be pretty toxic and the mods aren't always the nicest. If you can handle that, then go for it. But if not, you might want to look elsewhere.
