Cheap but awful. Can’t even keep names straight
I have a lot to say but first I’ll just post the email I had and let you see what you get for your money for yourself. My pets name is Kaylee, I waited nearly 3 weeks for this response, and she couldn’t even keep the pet name straight. Does that inspire trust? Does that make you feel you had fair dues? It didn’t make me feel that way at all. Read the email and you’ll know what you’re in for, I say more below but seriously, just get in there.
Hey Cody, How is Kaylee feeling? I hope her ears aren't giving her too much trouble I had a chance to review your claim, and unfortunately we are unable to cover Luna’s ear infection. According to the records we received from Animal Family Practice Vet Hospital, Kaylee has a history of allergies (exam on 1/15 notes she is there for a possible allergy shot). We were able to cover Kaylee's past treatment for her ear hematoma due to the fact that there was no active infection noted at that time. However, we are required to review claims based upon the latest information available and your vet's most recent exam notes state that 1) on 4/29 Kaylee had a confirmed ear infection and 2) your vet is now suspecting that Kaylee did in fact have an ear infection that caused her ear hematoma. Allergic skin disease can affect any part of the body that has skin - this can include flares of the feet, belly or ears; sometimes all at once, sometimes independently. Because ear infections are closely linked with allergies, something Chloe has a pre-policy history of, we can’t cover this claim. I really wish there was more that we could do, and I'm sorry for the end result here. I would love to be able to approve every claim that came my way, however I am bound by the policy and must follow its coverages. I hope this doesn’t dampen your excitement for Kaylee's policy, as there are so many more things that can be covered in her lifetime. So, whether she hurts her paw jumping off the couch, or swallows part of a toy and needs surgery, Lemonade has your back! I have had lemonade for two years and for most of that time I haven’t needed to use it. I have renters and I have a pet policy. I’ve never had to use the renters but I’ve used the pet policy and oh boy, don’t do it. They make you sign a notice every time you need to make a claim promising that you aren’t defrauding them, another notice to remind you that when you use your policy it’s reducing the money given by lemonade to your charity of choice out of your unused premiums. There is yet another notice to remind you it’s a federal crime to commit insurance fraud, then yet another signature to promise to ‘only use what you deserve’. You do all that and go through all of that just to have to record videos of yourself explaining what the claim is for. So I hope you haven’t been upset at the vet because you can expect a full on stranger to see your blotchy face as you struggle to pronounce and explain medical jargon you barely understand before they’ll even begin working on your claim. My first pet claim was just a wellness check and went through in seconds, I’m not kidding. I was amazed. Every time after that has been pulling teeth and finally today was the last straw. I waited nearly three weeks for my claim to finish review just to have my dogs ear infection treatment claim rejected because she had an allergy shot fully two years ago! Lemonade feels like Kaylee having had an allergy shot two years ago and no other issues at all until now obviously means she must have a skin disease (that there is no proof of) that causes chronic infections, and that imaginary chronic skin disease is the basis on which they denied the claim. The woman also used three different pet names in the email, so you know you’re getting real white glove service when they can’t even keep the names and situations straight. Who is Luna?! Who is Chloe?! No idea, two other people who got screwed though, I can tell you that. If this is how they deal with a measly $60 vet visit, can you imagine how they’d react to a $50,000 renters policy? They’d probably deny my claim and blame me for the disaster that wiped out my house because I left a window open last spring, that seems to be their logic. Don’t do this, they bill themselves as better but this has honestly been a far worse experience than I ever had from the major leaguers. At least their rejections get your name right.
