Throughout my 4 year lease with Marlin, I have never, in my 10 years of running a business, dealt with a more hostile, rude, unethical, customer un-oriented business. I hope that no one is ever victim of having to work with such an unethical company. I wish there was more I could do than filing a complaint to warn consumers before considering them as a business partner. PLEASE READ: THEIR BBB RATING IS 'F'- THIS IS NO MISTAKE! THEY ABSOLUTELY SUCK! I AM CONVINCED THEY ARE AWARE, BUT DON'T CARE.
I was in a 4-year lease agreement for a copier/printer machine. My contract is due to end October 1, 2011. However, on May 1st 2011, I decided to call Marlin to PAY OFF and satisfy the rest of my lease agreement because I no longer had use for it. They refused an early payment and told me I would have to wait until the end of my contract before they would accept a return. As a result, I had to pay for storage to store the machine. On July 15th, I called again to see if I could request return instructions for the machine and I was told that because a certified letter was not submitted 90-days prior to October 1, my contract is being auto-renewed for another 12-months. They were 100% aware of my earlier request in May to pay off the machine, but I was never informed at that time nor did I receive a non-renewal notice of any sort. I feel completely blindsided and slighted out of $2, 800 more of my own personal money for a machine I attempted to return 5 months prior to contract ending. PLEASE FIND ANOTHER COMPANY TO LEASE YOUR EQUIPMENT FROM OR YOU WILL TRULY REGRET IT. I DID- WORST BUSINESS DECISION I EVER MADE IN 10 YEARS!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree 100%, Marlin Leasing is the worst. My situation is a plotter lease and I am only 5 months into the lease and have only received 2 actual invoices. All the rest have been dunning/late notices and robotic phone calls. They can manage to mail the delinquent notices but I just can't seem to get the actual invoices. Then I am told I will have to call them at the end of each month if I want a copy faxed or emailed to me. In the mean time we have been charged 110.00 so far in late fees. I can't get any help on this and the person answering the phone was rude. My rental contract does not state a "due date" nor does it specify my payment terms other than to say due upon due date with late charges of blah, blah blah. This company is awful. STAY AWAY!
This is the worst company I have had the displeasure of dealing with. I got a security system camera system from Surveillance Consulting Inc. and the next thing I know I am getting 15 calls from Marlin Leasing when the bill is 1 day past due. I pay my bills on time and have never been pestered with a company when a bill is only a day or two late. We mailed it on time, I have been reading reviews that others are having this problem and getting late fees b/c they do not post your actual payment until after the due date. I have a feeling a class action lawsuit is not far away for this company from what I have been reading.
It was a biggest mistake to lease the equipments from Marlin Business Bank. Unreasonable late fee, non-responsive customer services, and accumulative late fee due to late notice from the bank. Advise not to do business with this bank. You will be end paying a lot more than you even realized.
MARLIN DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE MONEY THE "OLD FASHIONED WAY" -- BY EARNING IT LEGITIMATELY. THEY MAKE A PROFIT ONLY BY CHARGING LATE FEES ON PAYMENT THAT WERE ACTUALLY RECEIVED ON TIME; BY FORCING CUSTOMERS INTO 12-MONTH RENEWALS EVEN THOUGH THEY GAVE THEIR NOTICES TO TERMINATE ON TIME, BY CHARGING OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH EQUIPMENT INSURANCE PREMIUMS AND A NUMBER OF OTHER WAYS. STAY AWAY!
It was a mistake to lease my equipment from Marlin Business Bank. I wish I had looked at reviews first but I just went with the vendor that was installing my four commercial dish machines and never thought about how crooked the leasing company could be. I have seen several reviews with the same problem that I have which is mailing my payments the day I receive the billing and then they post them up to a month later. Then they charge me late fees to make more money. I am now in the process of buying them out and from the sounds of the other comments, that may be bad also.
I agree too. It happened to me. I called 5 months before my copy machine lease expired and they told me that I needed to call "within 90 days of lease expiration" to get my options. I did and now they say I had to send a USPS certified letter six months prior to lease expiration to request a lease cancellation (they did not say that when I called them) and since I did not do it I have to keep the lease for another 12 months. Too bad for them, I'm in the middle of an expansion and I was looking into equipment leasing for two new locations. They lost me as a customer, a $2400 "forced lease extension" will cost them thousands of dollars of potential business they won't get from me.
I was another "victim" of their predatory practice. Sent certified letter before the 90th day and that was "late" too. Was forced to continue lease for another 12 months. If you pay on time they will find a way to post it late and blame you for it resulting on late fees. If you send the monthly payment and don't pay the disputed late fee they will post your payment towards the late fee resulting on an underpayment of your lease payment thus more late fees. They will harass you with threatening phone calls... every day... automated. Send regular mail and try to make your life miserable. Customer service is a joke, non existing. They are rude, indifferent, and abusive. My advise is not to do business with this company or its subsidiaries or parent company. They are all colluding in this scam. Now they have changed their name instead of Marlin Leasing to Marlin Bank hoping to shake off their bad reputation and find more "victims" to prey on. The government should look into this company and force them to make restitution to everyone scammed by their unethical and predatory practice.
The worst company I ever deal won't recommend to anyone PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PARTICULAR CORP THEY WILL ROB YOU FOR SURE
This is absolutely the worst rip off company there is. They finance a $200 water cooler for $2500, and then send you late notices when you're not late. You can't deal with them because they won't talk on the phone. We stopped paying our last $500, and then they sue you in the state of pennsylvania because that's what you agreed to in the contract. That's where they are from. Then they tack on 1500 for filing fees and attorney fees, and then come after you. It's a huge scam company. Avoid them at all costs.
Make sure you read every bit of the fine print before you enter into an agreement with this company. I contacted the manufacturer of the equipment we bought through Marlin and found out The actual price was at least 25% less than what Marlin was charging. I contacted them to find out why such a price difference and they responded it was due to the finance charge. In other words they build future interest charges into the initial cost and the contract reads you must make all payments. There is no discount if you want to pay it off and refinance. There are way better options than Marlin for equipment lease/purchase. Steer clear of this company.
Worst company ever. Got 2 3d printers from them 6 months into lease I was diagnosed with lung cancer. My business closed and I told them to come get their equipment. Almost a year later and a year of not making a payment they call 20 times a day threatening to sue me and demand the return of their equipment. I was evicted from the property and told them I have no clue where their stuff is. The literally threatened me with a lawsuit even after I told them I was going into bankruptcy with medical bills they still keep calling.
I signed a bill of sale with Sentry Surveillance company, next day I went in the hospital for a hip replacement, when I got back to work a month after the sale, I started receiving collection notices from Marlin leasing. When I signed the bill I thought I was signing a bill of sale, it is only after I started receiving collection notices from Marlin I realized that they were involved with leasing, leasing never came up when Sentry Surveillance came with the equiptsment, otherwise I would not have accepted that sale, I swore there is no way I will lease an equiptment from any leasing company 20 years ago when I leased a snack machine from a company for 5 years and realized I could have bought about 20 machines for the money I paid for the five years of lease, so why would I lease security cameras for five years when I could buy one time the amount I paid Century Surveillance for the cameras, I was so shocked, but being an honest person, I decided to pay because of the threats I was getting from Marlin Leasing. After a lot of phone calls from Marlin leasing, disturbing my Cosmetology students the whole day by their phone calls, I decided to stop paying after four years. Imagine the equiptment I had was just under $600.00 and I already paid about $15.000 for the four years, now Marlin is suing me in a Phyladelph1ia court for $6152.44 for an equiptment that cost less than $600.00. I bought the same equiptment for my other business for only $600.00. I will like all of you to come to court with me on May 26th, 2017 at 1:00 o'clock at: 1339 Chestnut Street 6th Floor, Philadelphia, Pa 19107, hearing room: 5. We have to bring this man down, we cannot allow him to treat hard working people like us like that, I graduated a lot of students who now owned their own business, I stayed up many a nights trying to get them ready for testing at state board, my husband and I sweated so we can have a clean environment for them to learn, and now to allow somebody to sit down in an airconditioned office and try to take away what you sweated for without sweating it is not Godly what he is doing. We built a Barber School and a Beauty School so you know that was a lot of sweat. If we all band together we can bring this man down. With God's help we can bring him down, God does not like ugly. Roberta Hector, R&E Cosmetology School and R&E Barber School, reach me at recosmo@verizon.net, thank you.
How did your case went.
I am in the restoration business. I contacted Aramsco.com for the purchase of a flooring removal machine. They arranged financing through marlin, in what they called a fair financing contract. In my eagerness to buy the machine, I did not read the entire contract. Like so many posts here, I found that I was being charged for insurance (which covers them only, at an outrageous rate of 75% (annualized) of the monthly payment. They added taxes on the insurance fee, and tangible taxes fees for which they refused to provide proof of payment to the State of Florida. The State of Florida levied the tangible taxes on the equipment as well, as I could not prove they made the payment on our behalf. I attempted to get this resolved over two months, with no success. They filed a UCC-1 form (i.e. lien) with the State of Florida, to ensure that the machine will be paid for before release. However, they filed the form in such a way that they claim the rights to any and all invoices generated by my company. As a consequence, we cannot use capital funding companies to purchase our invoices, to keep enough cash flow to meet our obligations: (including the payment of payroll & the monthly rental fee). They are completely uncooperative, even though they have provided letters of subordination for the purpose of invoice factoring in the past. Bayer beware! Exhaust all available avenues to obtain funds prior to engaging this company. The flooring machine original price: $35, 000. Payments year-to-date (excluding this month, which we might not be able to pay) $29, 432.24. Pay off amount today: $20, 839.10. Total $50, 271.34. Tony Soprano could not make this much profit if he tried. he could learn from Marlin!
