We are owners of 2 timeshare weeks at Marriott's Cypress Harbor in Orlando. This is a big, 2 BR, 2Bath unit that sleeps 8. We have been trying since January to trade a week for a similar unit on the island of Oahu in July. In February, after calling Interval International every day, (the exchange company which is owned by Marriott), we were able to get an efficiency in Oahu for that week. However, we traded in a 2 BR unit and were told when we bought these weeks that Marriott had tons of units to trade and we could stay anywhere in the world, anytime, with the power of a huge hotel chain like Marriott.
Today my husband called Marriott, and there are 2 BR units for RENT in the Vacation Club on Oahu, but we cannot trade for them. Why should we pay $344, plus tax and tourist charges, for a room that we virtually own, via the Interval Timeshare system?

I am a returning Marriott guest, and as a result a new rewards program member. I travel for vacation and work, and stay in hotels at least 75 days a year, over more.
I had been taking to a couple of people on your staff about a vacation in Kauai in the very near future. We talked about several resorts, like the Ko Olina, but I said I wanted Kauai. The People I was talking with was a fellow named Brett and his Sales Manager Courtney Mc Kinney. I was quoted a price of $648 for 6 nights, 5 days in the Kauai Beach club on Rice Street. He said that I would get two gift certificates for $50 and an ecomomy car. It sounded like a great deal, but we had to hurry so he could lock me into this package. I gave him the deposit of $198 to lock the price in. The next day I called to pay the balance and I was told that I needed to pay $500. What this means is that I had to pay $150 more than what I believed I was locked in at. Further, I was told that I would only be getting a single $50 gift certificate. So now we are talking about a $200 difference in price from what I thought I was locked in at. Sales Manager Courtney Nc Kinney even admited to giving me those numbers when I called, but said that she was reading them from Bretts work, and that I cannot get the hotel I wanted in the dates or price that I wanted. I wanted the dates bewteen 4/24/08-4/30/08. I am very dissappointed and I have not even left gotten to the hotel yet. I have been staying in these kinds of resorts, like the Waikoloa Hilton and the Ko Olina Marriott for years, and I plan to continue, I have liked the Hiltons better, but I do not want to make a decision on just one resort. I am scheduled for a time share meeting on Kauai Beach Club too. Do you think I am going to be happy about buing a time share from Marriott after being involved in an obviouos bait and switch vacation package. I mean I would like to stay at your resort, give it a chance, maybe even buy a time share, but someone has to fix this mess. After this much trouble, I would like to have those over charges recredited into my account, and possibly a couple freebees and upgrad or two. Either that or I will just take my business to the Hilton.

Marriott may run a pretty fair hotel operation, but I'd stay away from their timeshares. They're very easy to get into, and close to impossible to get out of. I am trying to sell the one I own in Marbella, Spain, because I'm no longer able to travel, and Marriott had touted their "resale service" during the initial sales presentation. Well, now that I want to sell it, they won't talk to me. The best they will do is put it on a list and hope someone comes in wanting to buy. In the meantime the annual maintenance fees keep going up and up. I looked into a firm that advertised resale services on the internet, and they wanted me to pay them close to $3000 to take it off my hands!
I am looking for people who bought in Marbella in the last year who were told it was easy to trade silver weeks for gold and rent the weeks. I also want any info on filing complaints successfully with Marriott. I own two other weeks and they are great. the two silver weeks I bought last year are lemons... totally misrepresented by the staff. This is clearly not the Marriott way, but I can't seem to find the right channel to be heard.
I totally agree with this, I own a two bedroom Marriott unit in Palm Desert, CA. and wanted to trade for the same in Kauai to attend a family wedding. I waited over ten months and they never found a room for me but I was able to purchase two get away weeks through Interval Int'l. for others while I waited, which doesn't make any sense. I finally purchased a room on my own and then had to pay extra to extend my Marriot week Now, when I wanted to use it they made me wait until 30 days before I wanted to travel and then all they were able to find in the Western part of the U.S. is a studio unit in Arizona and I again had to pay $149. to get that. To top it off, I looked up that location on the internet and could have gotten the same room for $49.00 per night on my own.
When you add up the cost of the time share, the maintainance fees and the Interval International fees and then the fees at time of booking, you could book your own stay anywhere in the world for less. I think Marriott has over sold their units and don't care if you are satisfied or not once they have your money.

I was invited to visit your site in Marbella, previous to the visit I was under the impression that it was an apartment for sale and not as it turned out a time share. Nice salesman, very nice site, but something doesn't add up. Is it only me or can't people calculate? You are offering 1/51 share of a flat of 60 square meter for 20000 €, that makes 1 020 000€ (similar flats in Marbella cost 150 000 €) and you ask maintenance fee 900 €, this you multiply by 51 makes 45900 € a year!

The salesmen told us that 18 % of the visitors signed the contract...but how is this possible? you have 5 candidates every day, times 300 days and you are already trying for find candidates for 8 years and you only have 140 flats on this site, and 20%, is still available!
Please calculate! Why all those lies? I WAS a Marriott client for many years, you have just lost a customer but I GUESS YOU DON'T CARE?

I am looking for any owner, with a deeded timeshare week, who feels that the new "Destination Point Program" has drastically reduced the value of their deeded property. I believe that a "class action suit" will be the only way to capture the value that will be lost in future years. If you choose not to pay $595.00 to participate in the new program, if in fact it doesn't make economic sense to buy into the point system because the value assigned to your timeshare weeks is not the same as it was before this program was instituted...and because as deeded owners, you will now be competing with less available Marriott inventory due to the fact that "non-timeshare" participants will be drawing from the available inventory of MVCC weeks without actually banking any inventory. Not only are they given first option on available inventory directly through Marriott and if this request is not available, they then will be assigned your weeks that were deposited at II. So now you are not only competing with II owners, but also points owners who have nothing to trade into the system! Also, if you want Marriott to sell your timeshare, think again. Yes, they told you when you bought your weeks that they would find a buyer for a hefty commission...give it a try...I've been on a waiting list for 3 years and nothing is happening. Marriott resales won't even tell me where I stand on the resale waitlist. So much for the credibility of the company that, at one time, stood behind their product!

I have an oceanfront unit in Maui - Lahaina and Napili Towers. The dilution in value and decline in availability is directly related to the destination program. It's classic bait and switch..sold one thing, and given another. Keep adding water to a fine bottle of wine and tell me if it still tastes the same?
People need to learn what time share is. If you don't like it, go to Hawaii and try to buy your own villa on the beach and see how much that will cost. I lived there for years and a gallon of milk is over 5 dollars. Get a clue. It is the number one destination for everyone all over the WORLD. Do you really think that your few hundred dollars will cut it? Get real. And understand exactly how time share works, not how you want it to work. And again, if you don't like it, get rid of it and go buy a villa. See if you ever get there again.
