Usually when fraud is reported, and reported right away damage can be minimalized. I have had the worst experience to date with M&T. First off after 10 days of waiting for a replacement card I had to call to follow up to get the card expedited. (They told me as a courtesy they would wave the fee: However why should I be thankful when I have already waited 10 business days) This is on them... not me.
Next I reported several fraudulent charges all from the same day (and appeared to be out of state as well) There was a charge that needed a pin and since the person who stole the card didn't have it I wasn't even alerted to this charge until I did my own research. Anyway if all charges were on the same day with the same card and everything was reported this should be an open shut case a 2 year old could follow but here is my experience:
Everything was reported before the charges got posted. The bank mistakenly credit all the charges into a checking account and not the credit card. They then removed all the charges. (No biggie here there mistake, nothing gained or lost. Then they credited *Most* of my charges back to the proper credit card (a business card no less so this is used daily on ordering supplies) but left one charge in dispute. They were able to put on provisional credit but suddenly couldn't for this one charge. Several weeks of following up, and receiving 3 different letters with 3 different claim numbers reguarding 3 different dates every time I try to call is now a process that leaves me on hold for 30-40 minutes while they "check the notes on the account" I have been disconnected on over 3 occasions after waiting more than 30 minutes for some of these calls.
It has been a month since the fraud has been reported and a charge of 888 has eaten into my credit line. I can not order supplies based on quality or quantity in fear of over drafting. I have been told I would receive a call back or a follow up from 3 different tellers as well as having to go to the branch to see if they can help.
Recommendation: M&T does not care about customer relationship and honestly I will be looking into the simplest way to switch from them. I would feel safer and more cared for from a dead body on top of a skimpy lock box
My credit card was stolen and reported. M&T made the mistake and credit back the charges to a checking account and then as it was their error, took back the provisional credit. They then gave credit back for all charges except one totaling $888 dollars. It is a month later and this charge is still sitting on my balance. They have been unable to update me only stating it could take up to 3 months. This is a business credit card and being almost 1000 dollars closer to my limit has hurt my purchasing and operations. THIS IS NOT A BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP I WILL BE LOOKING FOR A NEW BANK!
