Highway patrol issueing ticlets to out of state vehicles for exceeding the speed limit when passing a slower moving semi truck going below the posted speed limit. I only exceeded the speed limit during the pass, signaling and returning to the posted limit, once past the semi-truck. Ticket was for $92.00. Please be aware, the State of Nevada is trying to make up their budget shortfall by ticketing outof state vehicles for, in come cases, no cause; with little or no recourse, except appeaing in Alamo, Nevada, 100 plus miles north of Vegas.

I had a horrible experience with Nevada State Patrol. My 10 year old daughter and I were on our way back to Washington State when we were pulled over for a broken brake light. The officer accused us of spraying perfume and that was an indication of having Narcotics in our car. He then asked me to get out of the car and not to make a scene in front of my child, and told me if I did not allow him to search my car that he would contact CPS and have my child taken from me, have me arrested and have my car impounded. After questioning the officer why he was wanting to search my car for simply being pulled over for a brake light being out he continued to harass us and told me we can do this the easy way or the hard way I am going to bring out my dog and you can stand behind my truck while I search your car, I told the officer may times I did not understand why he was wanting to search my car and he replied are you hiding something I continued to ask the officer why... Meanwhile my daughter is still sitting in my car while he has his dog searching my car without permission. He then put his dog back in the SUV and started questioning my mothering skills and my daughter started to get upset and asking me why the officer was being so mean and why he was asking me questions about why my daughter did not live with her dad and what kind of mother would pull her kid out of school to go on a road trip. I then told the officer that I had been in Vegas for several months taking care of my mother and we were now on our way back home. After the continual harassment from this officer no matter what I said I was hiding something or lieing. he finally allowed us to get back in our car with a citation for a broken brake light and a possesion charge, I did not even know that I had been issued a possesion charge until I had put some miles between us, the officer had told me the citation was for a broken brake light, no proof of insurance because my card had expired 3 days before and a speeding ticket, I then questioned him that he never mentioned I was speeding. I told him that with all of the stuff in my car I was not able to go above 65 he then told me that his radar clocked me at 74 in a 70, I asked him to see the radar and he told me that his radar was not wrong and he was not going to argue with me. He then told me to sign the citation for these things and I was so upset all I could think about was getting my daughter and I out of Alamo, Pioche Nevada. ...When I arrived in Ely Nevada I then looked at the citation because the ticket was for 737.00 I then noticed he did give me a ticket for a broken brake light but also a possesion ticket... Really I think if he would of found anything he would not of allowed me to drive off with my daughter in the car or show me what he found. He would not even allow us to watch the car being searched... I never thought I would see the day of misuse of justice...

I moved to Reno a year and a half ago and have never been pulled over so many times in my life. I am a 34 y/o Caucasian female, look totally normal and drive a 2009 subaru station wagon. There is nothing about me that stands out. Of all the times I've been pulled over, I only got 1 ticket, I was speeding up to pass a drunk driver who was weaving through to my lane. I hit a decent in the freeway and inadvertently picked up speed which was were I immediately got pulled over. The other times I've been pulled over in the same spot for going 4 miles over the limit, not using my blinker (there were no other cars in the lane I was turning in), and supposedly not staying in my lane. I work nights and get tailed 1/5 nights coming home from work. This sucks! I see people tailgate, cut other people off and drive erratically. Where the hell is HP then. Horrible use of tax dollars!

NHP, Wilson ( ID-749) and traffic courts should be ashamed for ripping off law abiding citizens who make a minor mistake after driving ticket-free for 20 years and still charging $150 for a violation. Of course why would they be ashamed if they can steal without being held accountable.

Ummm, to my knowledge, NHP does not have K-9 units. You may be confusing them with the local Sheriff's department. How you described that trooper sounds like one of the local Sheriff's officers. Also you have the right to refuse the search. His reasonable suspicion was not sufficient. Now if his K-9 indicates, that is enough to search without your permission. Just learn your rights for the next time.

To the other ticket,

It is still against the law to pass a vehicle if you are exceeding the speed limit. No where in the DMV manual does it say you can do that. Of course we all do itand Troopers should exercise their common sense.

Also, 74 in a 70 zone? I would have gone to court on that. Radar guns have an error margin of + or - 2 mph. You could refute that easily. So they usually wait until they are atleast 7 over to write you.. however if they can pull you over for 5 over.

Basically just know your rights.
