I had a very very bad experience with Nexus Holiday Chicago. I had canceled 4 tickets to Beijing of China booked with them due to AA delayed the flight schedule on May 2010. But the said amount of refund for the cancellation was never credited to my account. No matter of repeated mails and calls to customer care, but the company has failed to give me a satisfactory reply. This company is really a crap.Do NOT ever ever give money to this company, they are fraud, they don’t provide services that you expected or paid for... So, I consider myself defrauded and plan to file a small claims lawsuit to protect myself for lost.

You don't give any details about why you canceled the air flights to Beijing? Late flights don't necessarily mean a cancelled tour. Did you get cancellation insurance? Did you just cancel the flights without prior discussions with Nexus Holidays? This complaint is useless without these facts.

After completing the Beijing trip myself recently you should be glad you cancelled the trip with Nexus Holidays. They lure you with the $99 price for 7 nights at a 5 star hotel...the put us up at Maya Island hotel in the SW 4th ring zone of Beijing which means the bus is stuck in traffic jam every morning and it is extremely inconvenient to go anywhere on your own. Furthermore, the stores they take you to are scams: selling you everything from "magic pills' to jewelry stores with salesman that tells the same "I am the owner's son" story to gain your confidence and think you got yourself a bargain. Even the 20RMB foot massage in the Olympic village lead to a sales pitch for a miracle cream that can do what chiropractor, massage therapist or surgery can accomplish...the cream can fix 20 years of bad posture. By the way, the hotel was filthy...they do not clean the rooms and smell like cigarettes. I asked for them to vacuum the filthy carpet and the room service brought a shop vac to do the job...I had an allergy after checking in and it lasted the whole week.

Yee i agree. The nexus holiday is a big scam with the $99 fee for a 7 night 5 star hotel accomodation and the tourist places to visit. most of the costs are subsidised by the shopping places they take you to eg pearl and jade shops or medicine shops which are 100% fake stuff. At times the tour guides force you tk buy things as these items will subsidise their wages. I think this is really misleading. If the trip costs more, then the company should charge more and not rely on shopping to subsidise for the tour guides wages. Also compulsory events and tourist attraction tickets are calculated outside of the $99 so everything is already covered.. i dont understand why they still force you to buy jade and pearls.

My trip to South korea and Japan was a disgrace, exhausting long days and terrible food. In Japan we did not have a trained guide instead we had an Indonesian student who had never taken a tour before and had not been to some of the sights. Hotels out in the sticks which added an extra 3 hours daily in the bus and some of the itinerary was missed due to poor management and our visit to the Imperial Palace East Gardens was cancelled due to the fact that they are not open on Mondays! Surely Nexus should have known that. 3 busloads (123 people) of angry exhausted customers who will never travel with or recommend Nexus. Some hotels were not very clean and in Izu we got the good news that we had to sleep Japanese style (tatami mats) which not mentioned on the itinerary. All in all a very disappointing experience.

I have to agree with some the above comment. I was on the same South Korea and Japan trip. Time waiting at airports because they would not take us to our hotels. Some people waited 4 hours. And this was called free time to explore (really) Exhausting long days totally unnecessary, even tho some hotels were ok, hours wasted backtracking to and fro. Missed itinerary, and to much of the same thing. Food some places ok but boiled cabbage most days terrible. Some hotels great and others dirty. Japanese beds ok on the second night part of culture. Would have been nice to see more variety of interest, , . Our guide was good, but we do know that the original guides all resigned. What does that tell you. Not a great trip would not travel with nexus again, very disappointing.

I was on the South Korea and Japan tour a few weeks ago. I really liked the tour guide in South Korea because she was so good at time management and was so charismatic. My Japan tour guide was definitely the opposite. She was horrible. Poor time management, poor manners, poor everything! She pretty much didn't do any head counts when we had to regroup after free time which led to many delays from finding missing tourists. For both countries, all the hotels were changed and not central for after tours exploring and the food was basically heavily influenced Chinese food. I was majorly disappointed with the food on my Japan tour. We weren't even taken to any authentic Japanese restaurants. But wait for it. We weren't even taken to any sushi places!

We just returned from a 14 day Nexus Holiday in China (Sept 2016) and found the organisation and quality of the tour to far exceed our expectations. They were very professional in all their dealings with us. I highly recommend them to any prospective customer.

This is the second time we've joined China tours through Nexus Holidays. The first time was 3 years ago to Jiuzhaigou (九寨沟) which was uneventful, our tour guide was friendly and did her job. Our second time was to Zhangjiajie (张家界) in Feb 2017, and I have to say this is THE most disappointing trip ever. Not because of poor food or hotel quality, it's the tour guide who got assigned to our group was utterly unprofessional and unethical. Here is the feedbacks from 7 out of 12 people in our tour group. The other 5 simply given up and couldn't bothered:
1. on day one our tour guide invited strangers (not tour members) to board our coach. They may be his friends or he just simply wanted to make extra money by giving these strangers a lift from point A to point B which happened to be the very route that the tour will be travelling. Our valuables including passports were left on the coach which could easily be stolen and there would be no way of tracking these people down.
2. He sneak young girls onto our coach while waiting for us to return to the coach from the scenic spots.
3. And yes, he was waiting ON the coach instead of leading our group to navigate around the scenic spots. and when we finished from the spot he did not even wait for us outside the gate and we have to find our own way back to the coach. While we challenged him, he said his tour guide ID was malfunctioned, and couldn't go into the scenic spots with us. Instead of assuming the basic responsibility as what a tour guide would've done, he asked his "photographer" friend to lead us around, unfortunately this friend was only focus on taking our photos (so that he can make money from us later on), and completely ignoring the safety of our group. The 3 Canadians from our tour were left behind as this "photographer" assumed no responsibilities in ensuring the full group is present before moving onto new destination. On the same day, he left another New Yorker inside the spot and didn't even realised he was missing.
4. He didn't take us to all the destinations as advertised in the optional program which we paid for separately. As a tour guide he never checked on us to ensure we've been served enough food in the restaurant.
5. Lastly, on the final day of the tour, we were meant to provide evaluation for him. My understanding was that the evaluation form should be anonymous, but knowing that he did a horrible job and we won't be giving him good feedback, he made us fill in the evaluation form in front of him in exchange for our hotel room key. This is the point that pushed me to share this experience with you all.
I sincerely hope that Nexus Holidays can do something about this so that no one would have to experience our unpleasantness in the future.
Also, if anyone knows the address for Nexus Holidays China office in Hunan that I can send my formal complaint letter to please let me know, much appreciated.

Nexus Holidays tours to China is a total scam.

My family and I sign up for the active tour to Zhangjiajie instead of the shopping tour and pay an extra $700/ person.

When we first got to China they weren't even at the airport to pick us up. We had to find a person to lend us a phone to call them and they made us wait an hour and 1/2 after we sat for a more than 20 hours airplane flight.

That isn't even the worst part, the 7 people who were also in the active tour found out they didn't even plan a tour guide for us. We were changing tour guides everyday or thrown to the bus driver without a tour guide. The whole time we were rushed and then thrown back to the hotel before 4pm. Without a tour guide telling us we would be in an outdoor show at night we had to stay in the cold for 4 hours and almost our whole group caught a cold the next day.

The last day we were forgot in the hotel for almost 2 hours before they remember to tell us go eat and that was only because our group called them.

Even though it was suppose to be a active tour, we sat in the bus almost the whole time and walk for a few minutes only.

Even though we didn't sign up for a shopping tour it didn't mean we didn't want to buy souvenirs but we were cut of by the tour guide saying we didn't want to buy anything just because we didn't sign up for the shopping tour leaving us to be rushed around and give us absolutely no time to buy even a small souvenir at all. In the end I had to purchase snacks at the airport as souvenirs.

The whole trip felt like I was just sitting, eating, and sleeping. I can't believe I paid so much money just to have such a disappointing vacation. I felt even staying at home would be so much more relaxing and fun.

Usually I would never write a review but this tour experience has made me so disappointed.

I read a Nexus Holidays ad in Toronto Star. 15 day all inclusive China tour including Yangtze River cruise for CAD 4099 for two. In the same paper another tour company advertised a similar China tour for CAD 6, 225 pp. What gives? So I googled and, fortunately, found complaintboard. I can believe most of the complaints since I had heard horror stories. One friend's China tour group was actually LOCKED in a store and let out only after a number of them bought unwanted goods at high prices. I would have called the police but what can I do if the bus is stuck in traffic for hours because the changed hotel is so remote. Nexus is not the only such unethical tour operator. Many, if not most, are like that. One company even advertised 11 day China for CAD 999. $91 per day including flight? Were it not for complaintboard I could have been sucked into this scam. Thanks complainboard and all you who took the time to post. You have saved a lot of travelers from grief.

Your complaint is unfounded. You didn't even travel and your 'report' is inaccurate. We just returned from the 15 day all inclusive China tour with Yangtze river cruise which we first learnt about in the Toronto Star, also. First of all, since we went May 22 - June 5th, the price was a little more but that is stated upfront when you indicate dates you are interested in. Secondly, the tour group is NOT locked in a store and is NOT "let out...". We did not need to buy anything and we didn't.
*Accommodations were 4 or 5 stars
*Great tour guide who spoke English
*Great person with Nexus who arranged everything for us (including getting our visas which, of course, we needed to pay - as expected)
*Great value
*Everything was upfront and above board. We found the Nexus persons with whom we dealt to be very ethical!
*Are you ethical to write of which you know nothing about?

I have read these complaints and I must say that if any of them are true, I feel for you. Our experience was not the same.

I must admit, receiving our tickets within the week of departure had us anxious and frustrated. The flight was very long but pleasant enough and we sat in the airport as least an hour after arriving.

Our first guide, Leo, was very friendly and open and spoke English very well. He explained things in advance and looked after us 5-6 days.

The hotels were all above standard and we had breakfast every morning. Though the food was nothing to write home about, there was plenty of it and staff was constantly refilling and maintaining their stations. Lunch was usually much better.

It did get tiring changing rooms for five nights straight, but again the rooms were very nice.

You have to prepare to do a lot of walking. They tell you that up front.

Though the tours were very informative (jade, pearls, tea, silk, medicine), expect a sales pitch at every stop. They are smooth and slick at this, very expert at making you feel you need to buy. Though you don't have too. But we did. We meant to.

$399 for ten days is hard to top. We're already talking about doing it again.
