I had just opened a substantial loan account and checking account and within 10 days they close my son's accounts and tell him to come get the last few dollars from his checking and savings and they are not going to keep him as a member. How is this logical?! How can I feel good about continuing to stay with an institution who treats my family like that, and family who have been a part of that institution for longer then me?!
My son has had accounts with OPCCU for many years. Checking, savings, auto loans, credit cards, the works. I also just enrolled with them and took out a personal loan with them to cover his loans and consolidate the debt w/ me, which then he could pay to me through his accounts and pay off the debt without having to worry about falling behind on his auto loan, credit card, etc. as he recently became a single dad of 2 small children and was not able to sustain employment at this time.
More importantly how is this "credit union" behavior? We bank with credit unions instead of traditional banks because CUs generally treat members like family. Clearly this one does not! I will now be getting my loan paid off as quickly as possible and not giving them a penny more than what they loaned me! We may likely have opened more lines of credit in the future, applied for auto loans, mortgages, etc., now now, for sure.
As well, I will never recommend their institution to anyone at this point. Where I come from reputation, integrity and word of mouth are important. Clearly OPCCU cares more about the bottom line than they do their members. Don't call yourselves a Credit Union if you are going to get too big for your branches and operate like a bank!
Desired outcome: I would like my son to be provided with a sincere apology and an offer to return to the institution, although be aware, he will not be returning. An explanation and an apology are warranted at the least.
