If I could give 0 stars, I would
If I could give 0 stars, I would. These sorry excuses for humans sent me a letter saying that my late Dad (Step-dad) owed money, but like many others have said, they didn't provide any info on the debt or how much it was. I tried to log in with the credentials they gave me, but couldn't get in. I talked to my lawyer and they told me to send them the letter (which I did). After looking into it more, I'm pretty sure this place is a scam. If they're accredited by the ComplaintsBoard.com, that says a lot about the ComplaintsBoard.com in my book.

I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF DEALING WITH PHILLIPS AND COHEN ASSOCIATES, AND IT IS A LEGITIMATE COLLECTIONS AGENCY, THAT ACTUALLY TOOK THE TIME TO LET ME KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT PERSONALLY LIABLE FOR THE DEBT. BEING ON A LIMITED BUDGET. THE PESONAL CARE THAT I RECEIVED FAR BEYOND WHAT WAS EXPECTED, THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS ALRIGHT. THE INFORMATION REQUESTED IS SIMPLY TO PROTECT YOUR LOVE ONES PERSONALLY INFORMATION. ALL INFORMATION THAT IS REQUESTED IS ON THE LETTER THAT YOU RECEIVE, I'M NOT SURE WHO YOU SPOKE WITH AT THE COMPANY - NOT SURE WHY YOU ARE ON HERE BAD MOUTHING SUCH A CARING COMPANY.

First, to everyone this is at totally SCAM! I Just received this letter after losing my husband, stating that he had outstanding bills and that they are looking for the Executor of his outstanding bills – my husband took care of all his bills before his passing. All throughout his illness he was getting things paid off. The letter provides a web page, reference and pin I logged in to see what it was about and it ask you to enter the name of the supposedly Executor, administrator – this company is just looking for a name of a grieving family member to go after trying to get them to pay debt that their beloved one did not even had- I then decided to call to see what it was about they told me that I have to “Admit” if I’m his Executor which I denied asked me in different way wanting me to admit being the one responsible for his debt which again he did not have any. Because I denied to accept, the guy on the phone tells me that I’m not the authorized person, yet I receive the letter in my house and is about my husband. I tell him that he either tells me what the debt is they are talking about or that would be the end of their letter since my husband did not have any debts. He then asks me again if my husband’s family authorizes me to take over his bills once again, I tell him that he did not have any outstanding bills – yet I had already closed any credit card my husband had and pay any medical bills he had. They just want the person calling to accept paying bills of their deceased family member and most likely bills that the beloved one didn’t eve nave, BE AWARE TOTAL SCAM!
This is a total scam... As with others, shortly after my spouse passed away, I received a letter stating that they represented a "client" that was owed money and asking me to contact them. I am also receiving calls from them (, with their identity blocked ! I will not answer, I will not be lured into this scheme. My husband does NOT have unresolved debt, their "client" is a big secret, and I believe they are trying to scam me into paying for a dent that is not owed. Trying to get financial info from me in an unethical (and illegal) way. Not going to happen! STOP calling me, it is harassment!
I just received my letter. I am so happy I checked with the ComplaintsBoard.com and found this is a major SCAM. My letter just went through the paper shredder. Phillips & Cohen you just wasted your postage. Get a life you scumbags.
After readin the reviews here, I was sure this company was a scam
After readin the reviews here, I was sure this company was a scam. Turns out, they are legit and they are a probate partner for Costco credit cards. My husband had our membership on automatic renewal. Between the time he passed and the time I cancelled the credit card, the renewal charge was added. I took care of the situation with Costco, and they credited his account. When I called Phillips & Cohen Associates, they confirmed there was now a zero balance. If you have received a letter from this organization, check and see if your deceased loved one had a Costco account. You should also have received a letter from Citibank (Costco's credit card) sayin you would be contacted by Phillips & Cohen. The only thing I didn't like about this company is that they don't come right out and tell you who their client is that they are collecting for.
Received their letter barely a week after my husband passed, so I web searched them on the internet. Concluded that ignoring their letter was my best choice and have not heard from them since. Thankfully, my husband and I had frozen our credit information with Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, so they couldn't get credit cards using his data. Cannot understand why they have an A+ rating with you when it deserves to be a Z-.
On what basis can this sewage firm receive an A+ Rating from the ComplaintsBoard.com? I am very interested to read the BB responses to all of the critical reviews left of this scam company, but the replies do not open up. Please advise on how to better stop this unethical business from ever contacting me again. Thank you. David
My mother dealt with the Bank of Nova Scotia for over 50 years
My mother dealt with the Bank of Nova Scotia for over 50 years. When she passed, I took the life insurance check to the bank and opened an estate account. At this point, she owed $163 on her Visa. I paid the balance, so she now owed zero. The bank, in their wisdom, placed my mom in a collection agency called Phillip-Cohen. Phillip-Cohen sent a letter stating that the Bank of Nova Scotia had hired them to collect the money owed on the Visa account. I called and informed them that the information from the bank was incorrect, and I had a Visa statement showing a zero balance. I emailed it to their Kirkland Lake location. Months later, a representative from Phillip-Cohen called and said he was calling about an unpaid account. I told this person that I had sent a statement and that he and the bank had made an error. He insisted that I didn't send anything. After telling him off, I looked at the email I had sent months before and decided to start sending it to them again so they would have it on file. I sent it 600 consecutive times, crashing their server. They finally blocked my email address. I haven't heard back from them, and I'm sure they don't want to hear from me. P.S. I chewed out the bank and removed all family business from their establishment. Rest in peace, Mom.
Phillips & Cohen is a real biz, not legit though
Phillips & Cohen is a real biz, not legit though. Been tryin' for 6 weeks to pay my dad's small credit card bill. Talked to their reps 'bout ten times, same with the credit card company. Both reps don't know or care 'bout fixin' this simple issue. Gettin' different info every call and Phillips & Cohen reps don't even try to help or keep their word. Waited by my phone four times for their calls, but they never show up or respond to my messages. Their website talks 'bout compassion and keepin' promises, but that's all fluff. My experience says the opposite. I ain't tryin' to dodge payin' the bill, just need confirmation 'bout the amount and how to pay. They don't know or care... So, just a heads up, they're heartless and don't give a damn. They should be ashamed. Would give 'em zero stars if I could; that matches their crappy service.

I received a letter saying they wanted executor of my deceased husband
I received a letter saying they wanted executor of my deceased husband. I called. They wanted last 4 of his social. I refused. Then they wanted his dob I refused. I simply asked for the name of their client so I could find out if it is for another person with the same name. They refused. I hung up. If they bother me again I will just get my attorney involved. At a time of losing a spouse I have other things to do than listen to these jerks.

I got a letter saying they're looking for the person in charge of my husband's estate who can pay off the debts
I got a letter saying they're looking for the person in charge of my husband's estate who can pay off the debts. I called the number they gave and they said it's about a Mercury MasterCard account that was sent to them on 02/05. I told them that my husband's credit card was paid off in November last year. They said they would contact Mercury to get statements about this account and I should hear back from them in 30 days. I told them I was going to contact Mercury to find out what's going on. They told me to do what I needed to do and they would get in touch. I called Mercury and they said there's no claim sent to anyone because the balance has been zero for a while now. They told me to ignore the letter. We officially closed the account because my husband passed away.
My brother-in-law died in January
My brother-in-law died in January. I got a letter asking to find the person in charge of paying his bills. I called to say there's no estate, no will, and no one authorized to pay his bills. He only had a small social security check. I asked about the bill they mentioned because I already handled his credit cards, but they wouldn't tell me anything without getting all my info. I don't know this company and it feels like they're pressuring me to give my info to a stranger. I don't feel safe giving personal info to some random company just because they say so.
I got a letter from Phillips & Cohen Assoc
I got a letter from Phillips & Cohen Assoc. LTD with the ComplaintsBoard.com stamp on it. The letter says that I, My Name, am dead. But let me tell you, I'm alive and well! I don't owe any debts and I have no clue what this letter is all about, asking me to contact my Estate Executor or Administrator or whoever is handling my estate. They don't even mention who the creditor is or how much they want to collect. My daughter is my POA and she takes care of everything for me. Ever since my wife, her mom, passed away, she's been handling everything. I don't feel good about this letter and I won't give them any information. If there's really a creditor out there who I owe money to, they should contact me directly. I haven't received any late or delinquent notices from anyone. I think this is a scam and I won't be a part of it. These companies need to be taught a lesson for their greedy ways.
