I had a subscription to this magazine that expired last year. I have cancelled this subscription several times. I continue to get letters threatening "my good standing" with the publisher. I have been assured via email that my account is cancelled and I continue to get the harassing "IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED" invoices. Every time I get one, I contact the company again only to be advised that my account has been cancelled and to "disregard any further invoices". It seems that they do not have any communications within their company because I have now received an "immediate payment required" invoice that threatens to turn me over to North Shore Collection Agency. How do I prevent this when no one communicates?

WTF is up with them?! Any other magazine I have ever subscribed to, if you don't renew your subscription, they just stop sending you the magazine. Not Rodale, though! The first time this happened I thought that maybe I had ordered another year and forgotten to pay for it, so I ended up buying another year of a magazine that I didn't want. This time around, I called the 800 number and cancelled. I also emailed the company expressing my dissatisfaction. I will NEVER subscribe or buy any Rodale products again.
I can't believe that this technique is even legal!

I subscribed to Prevention Magazine for a year. It was a decent publication, but I opted not to renew it. Months before the subscription was to expire I received numerous renewal notices, which I ignored (as I have with any other subscriptions which I have chosen not to renew). At the end of the year I stopped receiving further issues. Imagine my surprise to receive a threatening letter from a collection agency demanding payment for another year.

Yes, Prevention Magazine turned me over to a collection agency for non-payment for a second year's subscription! I called the magazine and was told that I had "agreed" to an automatic renewal when I subscribed to the magazine. I knowingly agreed to no such deal! As a practice, I always avoid buying anything or subscribing to any service which requires automatic renewals or automatic shipments. (I find it is always far more complicated and time consuming to terminate such services or products than signing up for them is. I do not want the hassle.) If I had known that I was obligated to pay for an eternally renewing subscription to Prevention Magazine, I would never have subscribed in the first place.

I pay my bills. I have never been turned over to a collection agency for anything. That is until now. I will never subscribe to Prevention Magazine or purchase anything from Rodale Publishers again!

This is all so familiar, we could have written these letters together. Not only am I distressed to be notified Prevention is turning me in for collections, but this is the FIRST notice of any kind they have sent.
This would seem to be a great way to avoid calls and letters from disgruntled customers...the magazine doesn't mess around with early warning tactics...they cut right to the final notice on an account I never knew I had!
Yes, I was a Prevention subscriber. No, I did not renew. Surprise! They want money and their collections guys want it NOW! And now I find I'm not alone.

I am in the same boat as the last two respondents. My first collection letter ever and I feel it is unethical conduct to make cancelled subscribers pay to protect their credit rating - seemingly the only choice as you can't get hold of a person at Prevention.

I did not continue with this magazine subscription as the content was poor and repetitive. I am sure it was a $10 per year charge, but Prevention is claiming $17.94. I did not receive all editions of the magazine but it was no loss. I had in my mind written this magazine off for renewal anyway.

Now I have an RMCB Collection Agency letter, they say have sent me a number of letters, not true! If I pay I have surety that I will not receive another collection letter. One good thing though is that the magazines are not arriving - good as the very sight of them makes me annoyed and feeling unjustly treated.

I also received a debt collection company threatening me to pay up for subscription to Prevention Magazine which I never renewed after it expired. This is absolutely scam. Normally, a respectable magazine will stop sending magazine once you expired.They have the nerve to tell me that I am "automatically" enrolled into the renewal program which I seriously never sign up. I told them that I will not fear to take up legal actions against them if they will not cancel my future subscription and write off my balance. We are not obligated to pay them just because they kept sending their stupid magazine after it expired. Never signed up with prevention magazine unless you decided to pay them until the day you die. They are just mafia who try to bully you to buy their magazine.

The consumers have rights and are protected under the Federal Law. Why do you get so scared about being reported by a magazine? which I doubt they will do because it's not a free service. This is a scare tactic, highly illegal, and I can't believe people are still falling for it. Just send everything back, unopened, eventually they will leave you alone. No wonder my friends gave me my nick name, I don't fall for bs.

I had some of the same complaints. I did order the magazine however; I kept getting a notice to pay for the magazine which I had paid for. You asked me to send a copy of the payment, which I did. That was not good enough. Sometime later I received a collection letter.
I called your company, I was then asked to fax a copy of the payment; which I did, but you never apologized for all the inconvenience
I went through. I truly like your magazine, but I would not renew again because of your lack of professionalism.
