Im not a licensed electrician, but if I shut the main to my house and all of its subs, why is my electric meter still spinning? I check everything - nobody is mooching my power. Comes in to the meter, out to my panel and thats it.
I called pse&g 3 weeks ago to report the issue. After ording dinner and eating it, while waiting for a human, I finally got one that told me that someone would call me back in a day or two to schedule a trip out to my home to check the problem. I never recieved a call still to this day. So, rather than call back what could be one of the worst customer service departments that I personally know of, I think ill put a call into the nj utilities commision, and then to some friends in the media who love stuff like this..

Im eventually going solar - off grid! I fear if I do a net metering setup and sell back, they will just find a way to screw me there too! So, i'm just going to pull my meter and let them figure it out. When they do, ill tell em cut me off!

HEY - just wanted to update this post - PSEG finally calls me back and tells me that the "inquiry about my bill" is accurate and the meter shows i have been using less electricity..
After I call back and explain to mr customer support rep the mis-communication of the ticket that was infront of him, he tells me that the meter is old and may take a little juice to spin the dials.. HAHAHAHAA - I am not a friggin idiot!
Long story short - the schedule to replace my meter the next day between 8am & 4pm. 5:15pm the following day, i have a nice new shiny analog meter that DOES NOT spin when the house is shut down - go figure.
So now, my old meter has been sent out for "testing" and someone will contact me within the next month to communicate the results to me. YAY!

Here's another update.
Just got my bill for May 2009. Since Feb, I have been making my house more energy efficient and I have added 2 wind turbines, every lightbulb has been replaced with Low Wattage Flourecents, and the entire house is on a timer so nothing by the fridge is on during the day. Even the clock are shut down - no vampire power ANYWHERE to be found. I used one MORE KwH may 2009 than i did for May 2008.. Can anyone explain to me how this is physically possible? Since may is only just begun, obviously it has to be an estimate, but the bill reads actual.. Hmmm
Hey PSE&G - If your going to F*%& me every month, I at least want dinner out of the deal!
Seriously! How can you say i used more power than I did a year ago?
...extremely pissed

HOLY CRAP! $942? You have really got yourself some crappy appliances my friend! hahaha.
I feel your pain! They have had my old electric meter now for 2+ months and have not yet contacted me about the test results (because they proably owe me $$ for a faulty meter).
I would contact the Utilities Commision and make a complaint.
They are getting out of hand at our expense. With more and more Solar and Wind product being installed in our homes, the "Demand" is still going up (so they claim)- how is this possible.

My bill was actually down $25 this past month from my solar panels and wind turbines (which arnt even 100% installed yet). I have a couple of exten cords feeding things like computers, cable boxes and TV's and it is only running PART TIME. BUT there is still alot of BOGUS charges on my bill to make up for the $25 i saved this month. (like "NEXT $4.35" "NEXT $10.11".. and so forth.

OFF GRID - COMING SOON!

Latest Update! My electric bill was only $29 (actual usage) this month, BUT the now jacked me on the delivery charge! $73 delivery charge and $29 actual usage charge. I have solar panels and wind turbines powering 3/4 of my house. Only things connected to the grid is the fridge & the dryer, and 2 outlet circuits. WTF?
I guess i will be doing battle with these jerkoffs untill the day comes when i call them and tell them to pull my meter for good. Im not even going to do a grid tie because the would find a way to screw me out of the power I feed back to them.

even better is the new apartment I am moving into later this month (June-2009) ... I recv'd a bill from PSE&G for the new apartment for last 10 days of May 2009 ... billing me for $942- for gas & electric use for 10 days on a vacant apartment ... electric is for refrigerator only ... gas is for hot water tank only ... neither is being used .. no lights, TV, nothing ! I pointed out that this was an "estimated" reading which was obviously incorrect ... and the idiot customer rep suggests that maybe the refrigerator and hot water tank are not energy efficient and should be replaced. Absolute ###S working at PSE&G !

For several months now we have been plagued by inaccurate meter readings, meter readers not showing up on scheduled dates, and the power company attempting to collect from us with an estimate of the current bill, NOT the actual amount due. We are now threatened with the power being shut off by the 1st of August, but the next meter reading is scheduled for Aug. 3rd. We have been told that this date is not flexible despite our multiple complaints to the company in the past regarding the tardiness of their meter readers, and despite the fact that we should be legally able to receive an accurate copy of the current balance before we remit payment. This to me is evidence not necessarily of a conspiracy, but of complicity within the bloated corporate structure of PSE&G. The complicity and hypocrisy of this nameless, faceless, I-don't-know-I-just-work-the-collections-desk type of mentality is threatening to put our business in a situation from which it cannot recover. Simply put, this is a steaming pile of FAIL on PSE&G's part! Stop trying to strong-arm the people who are providing a creative public service to communities within the city your organization obviously doesn't give a damn about!

Your a complete ###. Instead of ranting and raving about this nonsense on here using PSEG electric to power your extension cord to your computer, pay your bill like the rest of all of us here in New Jersey stop whinning over this that are regulated by the government and local agencies and move on. The fact that you are admitting to being a bad debtor that has PSEG in debt by not paying your bill as well as not turning to off in the process, you make no sense with your rediculous and idiotic comments about a power supply that is one of it not the most reliable electric company on the east coast. Save your propaganda nonsense for people close to your circle that create more bad debt for this country and welch off everyoe else. I come on this site to read about ert meters and I see this and couldn't believe it kept my interest long enough to see how childish you sound. If you didn't have a ### credit score and could afford an actual home instead of moving into an apartment and dropping dough on all these high priced upgrades so you could save $25 on your bill, you might be living in your own place with nice things up in north jersey using jcpl grid and than see how much you appreciate the hard work and dedication PSEG employees have at 3:00 am in the rain making sure you can power your $100 a month gas and electric bill to keep your lights and heat on so you don't freeze. I understand your frustration of the "regulated charges" but there is nothing to do to change that and PSEG can't even give their employees discounts on the same changes. Trust me, if something could be done it would but black balling one of the countries top electric companies because you want to pout and take your ball and go home over $100 your certifiably incompetent of making a rash decision about having a reliable company like PSEG arguing us in new jersey.

Pseg is ripping people off. Plain and simple. I was shut off for one missed bill, and was charged usage for the month I was actually shut off. Sounds extremely off to me. Not to mention the rude, always late, put u on hold for hours reps that hang up on you all the time. I'm happy for all you pseg worker. I really am. Its lovely to bounce through life without a care. Worked hard all my life and they only gave me one thing. Hoops. And its very unfortunate that I have to jump through them. But not for long. I'd rather live void of electric then give blood to em and then some.

to "888"--YOU are the complete ###! what, does PSE&G pay you for this? i highly doubt it. amazing how there are SHEEPLE who will ACTUALLY DEFEND A UTILITY COMPANY--especially one with such a bad reputation (documented) for poor CS and even poorer concern for the people who keep them in business. as for them being a monopoly, well, you CAN order energy from a different company, but you will STILL be paying PSE&G for "delivery"--a charge which often exceeds even THEIR inflated supply rates. you clearly have no idea that you are being ripped off, as apparently you believe the utility company. and if you DO work for them, just wait until they try and get you to agree to an "early retirement"- (from which PSE&G benefits--NOT the faithful worker)-which they have done to several folks i know who have worked for them. apparently YOU are one of the idiots who run out and buy things because you believe the ADS PRODUCED BY THE CORPORATION WHO MAKES THE PRODUCT AND WANTS YOUR MONEY... poor fool.

this is in response to the comment made by 888: You might want to take some meds for your anger issues. Obviously you are just a shill for the PSE&G corporation. The people on this site are sick and tired of being j***ed around by PSE & G but yet you are defending them, and you seem to be the only onwe. You also might want to learn proper English. Profanity and name calling is a sign of a small mind.

I had the same bill for 10 years, before that less. Now the new P.S.E.G. smart meter is smartly ripping me off 4x what I used to pay.

I have the same problem. I didn't gave them a consent to change our meter which I noticed I'm the only one that has been replaced among my nearest neighbors. If they said my meter is old, I want the same analog meter replacement. I want them to put my analog meter back. My bill went up by more than 500% since May (the month they replaced it) and I have not added any appliance in my house. Did you do anything to solve this?
