Restland Funeral Home has been really bad at fixing funeral problems
Restland Funeral Home has been really bad at fixing funeral problems. It took like 8 months to fix the plate on the headstone, and stuff like that. They never answer the phone, even though we've been calling since August. It's already November, man! The staff was so unprepared and disorganized before the burial service. We think they should make up for all the time we wasted trying to get answers. We called them like 13 times between April 6 and August 29, just to get some info about the nameplate. And guess what? They lost it at one point! Can you believe that? We didn't even find out until February 8, after the funeral, that they messed up the contract. And that was like two months later, dude.
Restland Funeral Home didn't do the "funeral director" stuff they said they would in the contract
Restland Funeral Home didn't do the "funeral director" stuff they said they would in the contract. The funeral director was supposed to get the obituary info ready and put it on the Restland website, and also get quotes from newspapers. The family filled out the template and gave it to the funeral director. Two days later, the family got an email with a "proof" and a quote for the local newspaper. But guess what? The "proof" had a bunch of mistakes that weren't in the template they sent to the director. And guess what again? The messed-up version was already on the Restland website for everyone to see. The family tried to get the posting taken down by sending emails, leaving voicemails, and using the web chat. But even after 48 hours, the website was still wrong and the funeral director didn't even bother to respond.
I lost my son in March this year
I lost my son in March this year. It was a difficult time for me. Sadly, I had also lost my wife 8 years ago. Back then, I decided to buy a plot for her burial. She was cremated, and we talked about how the vault I purchased could hold up to 4 urns. They mentioned that, along with the cremation cost, there would be an additional charge of $875.00 per person to be buried in that plot.
Unfortunately, when I went to the funeral home, I found out that Richard, the funeral director who had helped me with my parents' and wife's funerals, was no longer there. It was a bit disheartening. They informed me that it would cost an extra $4200.00 to have my son buried next to his mother. It was a lot more than I expected.
So, I decided to pay for the cremation charges first and returned a month or so later to pay the remaining amount. I really wanted my son to be buried on his birthday, which was June 10th. However, as the week of his graveside service approached, I realized I wasn't ready to say goodbye just yet. It was too soon.
I mustered up the courage to ask for a refund. They agreed and gave me a refund of $895.00. It was a relief to have some of the money back, even though it wasn't the full amount.

My wife passed away in 2012 and we bought two grave plots at Restland Funeral Home
My wife passed away in 2012 and we bought two grave plots at Restland Funeral Home. We chose ones that were next to each other, near the edge of the park's paved roads. It was important for us that her family could easily visit without walking on wet grass or mud. I paid extra for these plots because of their location. However, to my surprise, Restland recently decided to put sod squares on the road that has been there for over 60 years. This road has always been marked on their customer maps. I contacted Restland and they confirmed that it was intentional. I don't understand why they would do this. Now I have to maneuver around the big rocks they placed to block the road. I manage to drive around them, but I have to be cautious not to get stuck when it rains. Some of her family members have complained that they can't find her grave because of the road's condition. Restland should fix and repave the road. The state of Texas has allocated funds for the cemetery's perpetual care, not for tearing up the park roads and neglecting the grounds. I hope Restland isn't planning to sell the space for future grave plots. This issue can be resolved. I've spoken to other people who also use the paved road, and they share the same sentiment. It's disappointing to see the road covered in grass now.
My mom passed away on February 19
My mom passed away on February 19. My parents bought four lots in 1978, all pre-need, same package. My dad, brother, and grandmother were buried before my mom. My mom's date of birth was already on the headstone with my dad's, which they share. I was told that I have to pay to have my mom's date of death added to her headstone. Also, the corner of the headstone is broken. I've been trying to contact them since February, but they just take a message and never call back. On September 17, I spoke to a supervisor, but I can't remember his name because I lost the note I wrote it on. He told me they were out of that headstone and expected more in two weeks. It's now been three weeks and I haven't heard anything. I've called three times since Monday, but no one has responded. And to make matters worse, Client Services sent me a bill for $55.00, even though I already paid it on February 28, along with the total cost of the service. I called them and told them everything was paid in full, but they said they didn't see it. They've been sending me this bill every month, and I was furious when I received it this month. Last month, I went through all my papers and remembered that my brother had written a check to them. I called them again and gave them his name, the name of his bank, the check number, the amount, and the date it cleared (February 28). I even told them that it was split between $325.00 and $55.00. I spoke with someone named S and she said she saw it and that it said "paid in full," just like I had stated the first time. They posted it incorrectly and then sent another bill last week. This is unacceptable. Restland used to be professional, but now their service is awful.
On 10/27/2022, we received a piece of mail that had a cute handwriting font, trying to look like a personal letter, but it was definitely not!
On 10/27/2022, we received a piece of mail that had a cute handwriting font, trying to look like a personal letter, but it was definitely not! The return address was *** Road, Dallas, TX XXXXX, and it was addressed to "The *** Family." We have received mail from this address before, which we looked up without opening, and it led us to RESTLAND FUNERAL HOME in DALLAS, TX. We have repeatedly refused these unwanted mailings and asked them to stop sending them. However, "Restland" on "Restland Road" has not complied with our requests. We have never had any business dealings with them and have never contacted them for any reason. We will never do any business with them, especially since we don't even live in Dallas! It is tasteless and inappropriate to use my loved one's full name in their marketing mailings. We are in the middle of a global pandemic, and it is ghastly and evil to invite us to a luncheon and death seminar. We haven't eaten out in over two and a half years due to the pandemic, and even if we wanted to, we would never choose their event. Nobody in their right mind needs a "free" meal that badly! Furthermore, my family has recently lost two very important close friends, and we did not appreciate their tasteless and disrespectful mailing. It also seems suspicious that their unwanted mailings coincide with Halloween, Samhain, All Saints, and Dia de los Muertos. We demand that they immediately stop sending any mailings to our homes. We command them, in the name of *** and by the blood of ***, to cease all mailings. We reject and nullify their evil, death, and ill will, and we leave it to *** to dispose of and destroy as he sees fit.
We lost our baby daughter on April 13th
We lost our baby daughter on April 13th. We chose Restland because we heard good things & decided to have our daughter cremated here. We chose VERY WRONG! When picking up my daughter's ashes, my boyfriend also brought documents given to him about her cremation home, he waited for me before he went through them. I went through them and found that they had given us information on an elderly woman & NOT our daughter. In a state of complete shock I went up and returned those documents. I was lead down the hall, through two funerals taking place, to the place where they cremated my daughter, to meet the man that cremated my daughter. He said he was "so sorry" & said these are the correct documents & then locked the door. The same elderly woman's documents were STILL in with my daughter's. We have been waiting to receive our baby daughter's death certificate since April. It has been 4 months! I have called every day for the past week & asked that the manager Derick call me back, he never did. Finally yesterday 8/18 I got him on the phone. He decided to get loud with me & tell me that it is the state's fault for the delay and not theirs. He said that they "corrected their error that they made" (meaning giving us the wrong documents). He said that he doesn't know why it is taking so long. I called and spoke to the state & found out Restland caused the delay. Magically, her death certificate appeared overnight. I went up there to pick it up & there is WRONG information on her death certificate! Including the time she was delivered! I am BEYOND upset and blown away that a company & people in this line of work have ABSOLUTELY no care & are allowed to do this to people who are grieving. We just lost our baby...how dare you! They just keep adding insult to injury over and over again. I am waiting on a call from the manager Derick to tell me how they will "correct this error." Derick called & blamed the state & the doctor. I want owner to contact me!
The bill I received from RestLand Funeral Home was $6,330.98, but I was expecting it to be $6,029.50
The bill I received from RestLand Funeral Home was $6,330.98, but I was expecting it to be $6,029.50. I want my refund. My husband, *** Jr., passed away on September 25, and I chose RestLand Funeral Home to handle his arrangements. I called Restland Funeral Home on 9/23 and spoke with Starr to make arrangements before my husband passed away. Starr quoted me a price of over $11,000. I thought this price included everything. Starr then told me I needed to pay $700 upfront. I gave Starr my card information and paid her $700. On 9/23, my friend Gayle and I met with Starr to go over prices and look at a gravesite. On 9/28, my son *** and I met with the Funeral Director, Shanique ***, to discuss prices. I was charged $5,480 for the services of the Funeral Director and Staff, which included preparing and filing all necessary legal documents and permits. This charge also covered overhead expenses for the facilities, such as insurance, maintenance, and utilities, as per the information provided by Restland Funeral Home. The finalized itemized statement given to me by Shanique *** was for $6,029.50, which covered everything I had agreed for RestLand to do. We held my husband's services on October 3rd at Restland, and he was laid to rest at the National DFW Cemetery on October 7th. When I received the insurance check, it was short by $301.48. On 11/6, I called the insurance company and informed them that I had a statement from RestLand Funeral Home for $6,029.50. I asked the Insurance Representative how much RestLand had claimed. The Insurance Rep said it was $6,330.98. I asked why there was an extra $301.48. The insurance rep said she didn't know. Restland had just sent in something with $6,330.98 on it, without an itemized breakdown. I was furious that RestLand had taken an additional $301.48 from my husband's insurance company without discussing it with me. On 11/5 and 11/06, I called Restland and left a message for someone in claims to call me back. On Saturday, 11/7, Megan from claims called me. I told Megan that the itemized statement I had discussed with them was for $6,029.50, and I wanted my refund of $301.48. I did not sign any form or document stating $6,330.98. Megan said the extra money was for a filing fee. I informed Megan that all filing fees were included in the Services for Funeral Director and Staff. I told Megan that I wanted to speak with a manager. Megan told me she was the manager. I was so upset that I asked Megan to let me speak with her manager or anyone above her. Megan said she would have someone named Derrick *** call me back, but he would tell me the same thing she did. Today is November 11, and I haven't heard anything from Derrick ***.
Funeral director lied about body condition after cryo storage and extra fees for chapel use
Funeral director lied about body condition after cryo storage and extra fees for chapel use. On June 4, 1993, my dad bought Funeral Trust Agreement and Prepaid Funeral Service Package Agreement. He died on Nov. 18, 2020. When arranging, we were asked embalming or cryo storage. Shaniqua, our funeral director, said no difference in body appearance and cryo better than embalming. Due to COVID-19, burial set for Dec. 7. On Dec. 3, my sis and I went to Restland to see dad. We told desk, waited 20 mins, asked if problem. Debbie said they had to find Shaniqua. 15 more mins passed, directed to another building to "identify" dad's body. After that, papers to sign. In a room, dad lay in casket behind window. His hands deep purple, red mark on forehead, whiskers on chin, dried blood from nose. Eyes sunken, no eyeballs. Skin bluish. Nightmare. Expressed horror when leaving. Next day, sis contacted Shaniqua to complain about appearance. Shaniqua arranged for us to see him again on Dec. 7, before burial and after "prepped for presentation." He looked worse. Blood from fingernails, longer chin hair, hands black, pink lipstick on lips. Woman who prepped body, Shaniqua, Catherine from morgue, and man from Restland (Tony, I think) were there. We expressed horror, woman said no difference in appearance between cryo storage and embalming. Showed photos from Dec. 3. They said makeup can't be applied to cryo body, but managed to smear pink goo on lips. Buried dad on Dec. 7. Called Restland next week, spoke to Angelique, who was "horrified." She said she'd look into it. 4 days later, called again, got in touch with manager, Mr. Rodney Jones. He tried to spare me details of cryo storage. Package my dad paid for included casket, cryo storage (same cost as embalming), memory book, programs, burial. No chapel for memorial (additional $790), no limos, no floral included. Don't know exact cost, but want compensation for services not provided and misrepresentation. No one from Restland has returned my calls as of Dec. 30.
